If it's not to costly (depending on quantity needed) check into polymer crystals for your H2O retention. Another little trick We have tried successfully, If you are treking long distances to the grow and hauling in lots of weight is a problem, look for rotten, and I mean crumbly punky logs. Rotten enough to break apart easily with your hands. Bust it up in chunks and a touch of lime, and put in the bottom of your planting hole...It will add some micronutrients as well as help with water retention.

That is an interesting idea. I do see this type logs out in the forest and never gave it a second thought. I say it is worth a try just for experience.

I will be adding some perlite to some of my holes for aeration. I planed to all along. I have been planting straight into the earth for many years with great results.

I do think however in those years when flooding is a problem perlite might save your butt. I can remember a year when the water rose close to the tops of the plants. It receded quickly and plants seemed to have weathered the storm. The leaves were all sticking up a little battered but alive. Or so I thought because when I came back they were all DOA. I dug down in the hole to find the water level was still only 1.5 feet below the surface. Maybe with a hole prepared with perlite they may have survived.

the soil at the watertable level and beneath will be saturated w/ water and won't have air. Even w/ perlite, if your dirt is beneath the water table, it will be saturated w/ water.

thats when you stick a 5 gallon bucket into the water with alot of holes and let the roots grow into the water while wicking it upwards to the rest of the root mass which means never having to water that plant again :), so like the swamp idea people are talkin about around here but instead in a region of swamp or small stream its in the woods

haha you get hit with the snow and i got hit with 5 to 7 inches of rain from the thunderstorms passing thru my state

the trimmed bud on the left is a Unknown Strain but have grown it out several times as they are yeilding plants that smoke ever so good and smell really fruit like, supposed to be a Northern Lights x G13Hashplant but who knows and who cares as long as it smokes and grow well in my book :), ill let you smoke some of it and then some ak and i bet youll say this is stronger then ak and better :D

the untrimmed plant you can see in one of the few pictures i posted before :) and its also unknown but grows pretty unqiue :D

heres a pic of the untrimmed plants dried bud, nice spear like and weighed close to 8 grams :)

and youve seen this picture a few times but some of the first plant that was trimmed, nice rock solid buds (still needed to trim some more but oh well personal smoke and trimmin sucks! ) and for the record again my camera blows and i need a new one but oh well you an get the general picture, im not here to impress anyone with my camera skills or plants just to share knowledge ;)

Last year for me was a good learning experience, but what didn't get ripped had mold on it, so meh. But that's okay, it was all good and fun. :joint:

Any ways, here are a couple pics to lighten up this boring post.

Hope to see you guys around later...........

Great pics PS and I love the fringe pics of the corn fields Pez.

Traveling on the road last summer through the conbelt, during the drought, I had seen several MJ plants towering over the stunted corn in the fields.

The poor growers never expected thier grows would stand out, in the middle of nowhere.

good luck this season

I was in a garden store the other day and they had a product called frost off. I should have looked at it more closley but didn't. Anyone ever hear of it or use it? It may help prolong a season by a few valuable weeks.
