Still pretty cold at around 11C today, foggy with clouds over much of the mountains, and misty rain at times.
Hope that Grail indica pheno is okay with this as she's the only one mature and thick enough at this point...
Not too worried about the other girls.

Want to get to the site and cut down (at least) the older seeded Thai Madness girl.

Forecast says still a couple more colder days between 15C and 18C, then over 20C again by Monday.
Next week highs of 21C to 26C or so and sun with some cloud -- yay!!!

Hang in there, ladies, this nasty weather will soon pass!!

Day 104 -- from sprouting!

8 days since last update.
I've talked about the weather a lot in those days -- really cold, pretty wet, foggy/cloudy.
It feels like about 90% RH outside right now -- no exaggeration.
Was misty/rainy earlier, but now just some thin cloud/fog lingering on the mountain.

Went via the long way, following the wall through the jungle.
Wet and slippery!

Building Two:

2 X Grail Project NH18 x MM pheno 1
(reg) = (NH18 x MM pheno 1) x (NH21 x MML Male) (12-16 weeks)
In a 15L pot.
Last pollination day 69, 35 days / 5 weeks ago.

Here's the NH x MM Grail Family:

PXL_20240127_032142412.jpg

Finally focused on the ganja instead of the wall!!

Such different phenos, aren't they?!

Took off a couple of the older leaves, anything that has a little dying off on the edges.
Don't want to invite you-know-what.
They are fine inside, healthy, no signs of anything nasty going on in this weather.

Miss Grail (NLD pheno) -- Day 104 = 42V + 62F:

PXL_20240127_032148484.jpg

PXL_20240127_032153776.jpg

Beautiful! Happily just throwing out lots more calyxs and pistils.
The little lower buds are filling up her main stem too, so she'll be a single cola top to bottom.

Miss Grail (indica pheno): Day 104 = 32V + 72F

PXL_20240127_032159888.jpg

PXL_20240127_032207133.jpg

I pull those little side buds out a bit to give some breathing space along the main stem.
Getting chunky, and still some time to go.

Building One:

2 X Thai Madness (fem) = Swiss Thai Nevil 2 clone x (NH21 x MML clone Reversed) (11-14 weeks?)

Last pollination on Day 56, 48 days ago (almost 7 weeks).

PXL_20240127_030551388.jpg

PXL_20240127_030557203.jpg

Finally visited them today, because I wanted to cut them down.
At 48 days after last pollination, anything that should be maturing is going to be ready now.
Also, the earlier flowering more yellowing plant is really hitting senescence.
And while the slower to flower more green plant is putting out more calyxes and pistils, might as well do them together.

Thai Madness 1 : Day 104 = 42V + 62F

PXL_20240127_030607530.jpg

Took out a couple of seeds from that bottom dying bud and cut it off the plant.
The seeds are very dark and mature, mottled, like the ones from the other week.
I count about another 20 on this tiny bud.
Otherwise, this is fluffy larf, haha!!

Thai Madness 2 : Day 104 = 56V + 48F

PXL_20240127_030614579.jpg

At least she looks more like a lower branch than straight out larf!
Looks healthier on the outside, but underneath those leaves...

PXL_20240127_030735338.jpg

So that was all cut off.
Another 20 or so seeds in her, too.

I then did a rough wet trim and they went into a laundry bag hung from the stairs over at building two.
The laundry bag lets some airflow through, but the holes are still relatively small.
But that in turn will keep any bugs or spiders off them.
Got home and thought I should have cut all the little buds off the main stem, to dry faster... never mind, too late.

Having these two little Thai Madness girls for this experimental drying technique is okay.
Doubt it will go too wrong, and the seeds will stay okay even if the buds turn for the worst.

Namo Shivaya!

Fun, fun, fun!

Love and hugs,

The big cola in the middle is the Big Girl.
The cola on the left is also the Big Girl lower branch.
The colas on the right are the Little Girl (who I will have to rename, because she isn't little anymore...!)

And from above:

Bottom middle is Little Miss, everything else is probably Big Miss.

Side angle of her to show the heavy branching.
PXL_20240127_031758220.jpg

She has branches on little branches all over the place.
She also has tiny tiny little pistils, never seen pistils so small.
Wondering if the branching and tiny pistils are due to the heavy N just as she started flowering??

PXL_20240127_031803017.jpg

I think those little orange things up top must be some kind of eggs, so they were removed pretty quickly!

Crazy growth in there!

Meanwhile, here's a scenic shot for you all.
Looking south, slightly west.

PXL_20240127_032647435.jpg

Next week weather forecast for daytime highs from about 21C to 26C or so.
Plenty of sun with a little cloud.
Hooray for that!!!
Should make these ladies go into over-drive, and put out another crazy flowering, I hope!

can't wait to see what Mother Nature has in store for us :) I always found that the outside made things more mystical if I can say so
Indoors can grow some amazing plants, but Mother Nature knows what she's doing.
Fresh air, sunlight, rain, and quality natural soil -- all the ingredients we need.
Your SSSTNs are looking awesome. You're going to have some lovely long colas there.

Thanks. Yes they are currently taking off 🙂, I just hope I can understand them until the end! Your plants look healthy and visually lacking nothing, continue like this👍 have you found that they are demanding in flowering?

Thanks. Yes, they are pretty healthy. Maybe a little bit too much Nitrogen for the SSSTN girls. They are super dark green, but not curling the leaves which is a sign of toxicity.

Demanding? No, not at all. You can see some information about the medium and fertilizers on the first page or two:

"My medium is about 33% coco coir, 33% potting mix (peat, a bit more coir, some perlite), 33% worm castings, and the other 1% is a combination of dolomite lime, kelp meal, [high Ca] chicken manure, diatomaceous earth, and various other local organic amendments across the spectrum."

The two SSSTN girls started in a smaller pot, about 10L I think. And they were seedlings in tiny coco coir pots that restricted their roots too much until they broke through into the 10L pot. It wasn't ideal and they got quite dry when they were young due to the warmer weather. It dried the sides so reduced their root space. It was also fairly light medium so when the bigger girl started flowering the leaves were slightly yellowing down low and light green up top.

Then I moved them into the bigger pot at 20L not long after first pistils. It was the same medium and nutrient mix I just wrote above. I also added a top-dressing, which was a couple of big handfuls of worm castings, plus 3-5-5 organic fertilizer, kelp meal, dolomite lime, and high Ca chicken manure. And then washed that down with a weak mix of Peters fertilizer (about 800 ppm, running 10-20-35 -- it's a combination of two Peters products, with me adding more of the 5-11-26 for higher PK) because I was really worried they were hungry, lacking a bit of Ca, and needed a boost for start of flower.

The combination of the transplant into the big pot, top-dressing, and Peters must of worked. Then they just shot up in a big stretch, turned deep green, now flowers everywhere. Once the smaller plant grew out from under the shadow of the big plant and started flowering, she also took off. Needed to gently LST the big plant back to give the smaller plant more room.

The NH x MM girls also started with restricted roots in small coco coir pots, but then straight into the bigger pot from young. But they just never let the roots grow out even after flowering started, so they stayed really small. Same with the Thai Madness girls. Next time I will not use the coco coir seedling pots, but use regular pots, then into the big final pots when they are a week plus old. The only ones I started without the coco coir pots were the ThaiFricans. Once into the big pots at a week old they really took off nice and tall. Just a big pity that some slugs or bugs got them except one male. Otherwise I'm sure they would be the tallest plants by far in the garden. Just one nice lady would have been a blessing. Still have 7 seeds left. Next run will probably focus on the ThaiFrican regs and Thai Madness fems.

My thoughts for anyone else running these: once they start stretch give them a nice all-round NPK fertilization, then when they are ending stretch hit higher PK. Give them a bit more root space depending on your space -- indoors these could get really big, but outdoors, just let them grow, right?!

Day 112 -- from sprouting!

8 days since last update.
Weather has been average, a bit warm, some sun, some fog/cloud, little rain.
Humidity very high, so concerned about drying (more below).

After being at the site for 10 minutes, realized I've had visitors.
Someone (kids, probably) have been there tagging.
Nice tags.
No signs of disturbance.
Did they not notice the plants? (Night time?)
Did they notice but respect the grow?
Who knows?!?!

Only slightly concerned, to be honest.
They are probably my kind of kids, hehe.

Adds some art to the photos!

Building Two:

2 X Grail Project NH18 x MM pheno 1
(reg) = (NH18 x MM pheno 1) x (NH21 x MML Male) (12-16 weeks)

Here's the NH x MM Grail Family:

PXL_20240204_025327426.MP.jpg

She had two tiny tiny touches of mold on the tips of buds.
Next week is most likely fairly wet.
So... cut time for her.
I think she's borderline ready anyway, and I'd rather this than lose a lot more over the next week...
80 days, 11.5 weeks, and definitely more indica leaning, so the time and flower growth says ok to chop.

She's now in the laundry bag, drying.

Building One:

2 X Thai Madness (fem) = Swiss Thai Nevil 2 clone x (NH21 x MML clone Reversed) (11-14 weeks?)

These two dried out in the laundry bag just fine.
Very tiny.
Unless... maybe those taggers took a little sample? Possible!

PXL_20240204_025118020.jpg

Other rewards:
Thai Madness X ThaiFrican
((Swiss Thai x NH) x (NH21 x MM rev) X (((Hempy Thai x NH21) x NH36 rev) x (NH23 x Kariba))

May be another few still in the buds, and I already have a few at home.
Let's say 35+ reg seeds of mostly NH x Thai and friends sativa/haze seeds to play with.

Namo Shivaya!

Fun, fun, fun!

Love and hugs,
~MJS

Haha, little sister wants to be the star of today's photo shot.
While big sister stands behind nodding in approval.

Big Miss SSSTN: Day 112 = 32V + 80F

She had about 4 or 5 tiny touches of mold on bud tips, maybe <1g total. Removed.
Shows even open sativas in this climate are not immune.
Removed a few of the original main-stem fans (though they aren't big).
Here's hoping this next week goes safely, as the week after is forecast for warmth and sun.
She's getting there, but I figure a few weeks more at least.
Took a sneaky mid-section bud/branch to test dry, though, because... reasons.

Nice to see the Resin forming on the strains on the outdoor spot you have going , I was thinking maybe none would finish properly in your climate and with an hidden outdoors spot you couldn't visit as often but they Looking great now , nice work

Thanks for stopping by and your kinds words, @ojd
Coming from the yourself, the breeder, with a huge amount of sativa/haze experience, that means a lot to me. :D

I was pretty confident that they would finish here.
I've done other plants from about Nov or Dec to Feb in the past.
At this latitude, the angle of the sun at winter solstice is about the same as, say, north California on Oct 15.
I don't have north Californian climate here, but in terms of sun intensity, UV, etc., on a clear day here it's pretty good conditions.
Though, this week is not ideal, too wet.
Next week looks nice in the forecast, though, and may be their chance to shine at the end.

I didn't plan to visit that often, just set and forget.
But then... I can't help myself, and even the larger pots needed a bit more attention for watering.
Not to mention the sheer joy of seeing them grow!
And, it's actually just down the road from where I live... hahahahaaaa!

The resin is great. The Grail indica pheno and faster SSSTN both have huge calyxes and plenty of resin. The sativa/haze pheno Grail also has the resin but on smaller calyxes. The slower SSTN just has weird flower structure, to be honest.
