Malawi Style Cob Curing.

The buds in the jar are vacuum sealed my take on the jar cure ha ha. Once you put the jar in the yogurt maker you can watch the buds change color to cured buds over 24hrs to 48 hrs. Then take them out dry them, as they will be wet and then age them as normal.
The sweat removes heaps of water from the buds and collects in the bottom of the jar. They therefore dry very fast once removed.

24hrs later

24hrs later

This is the result of 24hrs at 40c in a vac bag in a $60 yogurt maker
It smells very oily and skunky like good authentic hash from the mountains in India/Pakistan. This will change as it cold cures over the next month, before drying it to age for a couple of months.
By April it will be dynamite its sticky and sweet smelling now, my best result so far on GT, I cant wait to try the aged cob.

I've been experimenting a little since I bought my yoghurt maker and found out that while the buds don't need to be compressed they cook more evenly if you do and that it doesn't matter if you use old product or new but if it's not wet enough to sweat it absolutely will not work. Also empty gel capsules are great for getting a standardized dose and for sooks like me that want to avoid the taste and texture of chewing on a cob

nice thread going on..
but dont you worry about mold?
i can definitely spot mold in some pics in this thread.
Go back to page 90 a post by Madjag. He had some analysed for shit like that. If you keep them vacuum sealed during fermentation and dry them after you will not get mold. But if you leave them wet then of course you will get mold on anything thats wet. But if your paranoid dont do it.

Great observations thanks for sharing its how we learn. Very nice cure there my friend age it a bit and you will have gold. Much respect to you for an outstanding job and creative style.
I find you miss out if you dont chew it, the high starts coming on from the chewing and then comes on even stronger later from swallowing the chewed bud. But if it gets you where you want to be thats all that matters I am sure you are not alone in disliking the taste. To me cobs can never taste bad I just love everything about the experience, but then I am a bush pig at heart ha ha

You're right about missing out on part of the high. It seems stronger at first because it lacked the wavy come on and just steamrolled me but it also peaked much earlier and wore off sooner too making it much weaker and less complex overall.

If I'm honest it was kind of disappointing but I'm excited to think about the role terps play now because I'm thinking they get absorbed in the mouth before the flower does in the belly. I'm thinking it could be similar to eating a mango and hour before smoking in that the terps need to be in the blood before the main course and that the pills I've made do it all at the same time due to skipping being chewed.

It makes me wonder if a cob turned into a mouth spray that orally delivers everything would be different or suffer from the same fate as the pill from delivering it all at once? I'm guessing I probably can't cheat chewing it for the best highs

Chewing allows for buccal as well as sublingual absorbtion. This bypasses the liver and allows for a more rapid effect. Chewing for 20 minutes, then swallowing is probably why it comes on in waves.

I couldn't resist pressing a gram of my last cob into rosin. The effects were good, but weren't as complex as chewing it. It was like it lost something in the concentrate. Perhaps the same enzymes that cause the fermentation? I may have to revisit the rosin now that it has aged a few weeks.

The first time I tried chewing it, I was surprised that it wasn't bitter. I assume this is the same reason it turns brown.

You are quite right, I have tried ingesting the same cob extracted into coconut butter, cooked in cookies you name it they all loose something compared to chewing and swallowing.
I dont pretend to know why I can only speculate that once in the gut some properties are not absorbed that are absorbed in the mouth.
If I chew the bud for say 10 mins and spit out the dust not swallow it, I still get very high only a lot clearer without the heavy effects, the swallowed dust effects me after an hour and makes the high kick on for a lot longer also adds a stony effect that I dont get if I dont swallow it.
If I want a clearer less heavy high I dont swallow the dust, if I want to get really fucked up I swallow everything after chewing.
The effects depend on the strain and the type and length of the cure. Just because a bud is cured cob style doesn't make it good, it has to be strong in the first place its not a cure for weak pot.

Thank you my friend I am sure you will get something similar. i have been collaborating with some other cool people and we have managed to get it down pat now.
Its quite easy to get these results every time using a yogurt maker to sweat the buds.

Once you start growing cannabis retiring is only suited for the terminally ill as life just feels incomplete without at least one plant on the go. If you do quit though it'll be an exciting time in about a week when you start thinking about your seed stash

Who made the Mulanji? It sounds awesome.

@seeded This is so true. Changed location so I can't grow anymore. Now I collect seeds patiently waiting to resume again.

@Tangwena Exactly thread and information. I live in Tanzania and I haven't seen or heard anyone dry and cure like this. Traditional methods are fast dying out.

Very interesting and probably why Malawi cobs are exported to Tanzania and Kenya.
Africa is a strange place local customs remain local and are not shared much.
i cant believe more of our African brothers are not online. Probably because as you say the old customs are not followed by the younger generation and seen as old hat.
The last time I was in Zimbabwe was probably 20 years or more ago and things were still the same as when I left Africa 40 years or so ago. but things move on.
