Opened up my cobs to dry overnight.

Nothing smells bad. Everything looks good. Even those I thought were dryer fooled me. They all had a fair amount of moisture still.
Getting a little collection going

Opened up my cob after 24 hours, it wasn't wet but more gooey/sticky and has an absolutely amazing and rich sweet smell. Gave it a quick pat down with some tissue and have it resealed now for two weeks at room temp. The cobbed buds smell a lot stronger than buds from the same plant I am drying/curing the normal way at this stage.

Trying a low tech version while still following Tangs flow chart. Used a banana leaf to wrap for initial sweat and ferment. Unwrapped and dried a bit, then re-wrapped in parchment. Now, under a few weights for the final rest. Smells interesting, like silage/haylage but a little sweeter and spicy if that makes sense, herbal for sure.

Could have used corn husks since I’m surrounded by cornfields and Mexican stores but since the banana was on my patio, the lazy way out won.

To early to tell if I'm on to something. 🤔

I will say I'm very encouraged with this cob of Bruce Banner nugs that have always been kept in a Grove bag since 2022.
It smelled fantastic! Best nose so far when I cracked the cob open after a week.
The most terpy and the most like normal weed of all the cobs I've done so far.

It felt the best. If that makes sense. The most like I imagine a good one should feel like. Like a well stored cigar.
It felt springy and giving when squeezed all the way to the middle rather then hard in the middle.
A little too moist probably to let it just cob without checking it from time to time. I'll start a little dryer with the next one.

Too early to say if it will turn still. If it will get trippy like a more normal cob.
If it does and I can keep the terps and taste that will really be something.

It will also mean I don't have to start at harvest. I'll be to decide later that I still want to cob something particular after trying it.

It's encouraging enough I'm going to try some more of last seasons and see.

Starting a bunch of cobs and checking them a lot because I'm new has me burning through the vacuum bags.
I think @funkyhorse has brought it up before.
Here's how I'm doing it now and it seems like a good system. 🤔 See what ya think?

I make the cob no wider than the bottom of the new bag so it fits tight. Then I seal it at the top.
I write all the info close to the cob.
1000021142.jpg
I them cut it open right at the cob when I need to check it.
1000021143.jpg

What was the top is the new bottom of the next seal. 😉
I just keep going back and forth until the bag is exhausted.
Seems to be working the best.

The edges don't curl as much making it difficult to get the sealer to engage.
I also don't have to store all these little odd cuts of bag.
Works for me.

Hey Moose - I didn't have any luck with the vacuum bags, sealer etc. so I ended up using sandwich bags...I cut the zip lock part off and place the cob up against the side (cob is about 2.5") I then place a 3/4" dowel on top of that, up against the side...then roll it up and put a piece of masking tape to hold that...then remove the dowel (it is just there to keep the bag open) Then I attached a 1/4" chunk of copper pipe to my vacuum hose. Pipe goes in the open end up against the cob then I turn on the vacuum (foot switch) I squeeze the cob just a bit for fun, then clamp the open end of the bag with my fingers around the tube and as I pull the bag down and away from the tube a bit I start twisting and I keep twisting as I pull the bag down the tube. You should have about 1.5 to 2" of twisted top on the bag. I hold that tight and bend it over the side and use another long piece of masking tape to sort of seal the end and hold it in place. Then all my info goes on a chunk of paper and is wrapped around and everything held in place with elastic band.

Harvest has started in earnest - it was a busy day .....
Here is a bit of a cola before her shampoo and trim....
DSC06098.JPG

this is about 1/3 of plant number 4, Number 1 is already cobbed or decarbed into dust...
DSC06100.JPG

These Sativas seem a bit different to trim - I'm not sure if is called "foxtail" but some of the buds are on offshoots that stick up above the rest so I have to watch real close or their gone!!! Hence, I left a lot of sugar leaves on - it all ends up in me one way or the other!!! I've never saved trim - once it hits the floor it goes into the worm bin!!!
I'll get after the other two plants tomorrow!!!
Happy Harvest everyone!!!!! :good:

I always leave the sugar leaves on and sometimes some of the shade leaves as well ha ha.
I'm just too lazy to trim them too much it goes into the cob and amalgamates into the finished product ha ha.
Yesterday I did 2 days work in half a day I was on fire, lucky I had some scaffolding to erect and dismantle or I would have needed a very long walk ha ha.

Watered all my plants and there was a branch that wasn't gonna make it being accidentally broken but it IS a beautiful bud. I also took some little "sucker buds" from all 3 plants and took nothing off really and wrapped it up!! It is now in the Cob-A-Tron like the original. Here's some pictures. I'm also included a picture of the White Widow x Cheese with lightbulb for size reference. Gonna be some killer cob material for real!!! Can I get a hell yeah!?!?

That aroma is such great news! That lieu hahn makes my mouth water just thinking about it! I bet you it has already turned, at least partially.

Just put a small piece in the mouth, and you will know. Raw bud does not dissolve in the mouth like cobbed does, it feels much more gummy and sticks to the teeth, like a piece of hash does. If it hasn't turned, you kind of have to grind it between your teeth to taste it much.
But if it has turned, flavours will explode in your mouth just by wetting it and massaging it lightly with the tongue or teeth. No grinding needed, and doesn't feel gummy. The flavors maybe don't within seconds, like something sweet, but within the first minute for sure.

If yours already has that mouth-dissolving feel to it, I'd sat let it dry out completely now, to try and preserve as much of the current magic as possible. :smoke:

You can give the same grains of rice to 5 different cookers and you will get 5 different results
Making brick is similar
It all depends what you are after and what is your local environment
I am guessing you live in a desert because curing buds at such high humidity like 67% if you live in a humid environment it becomes a disaster. After 10 minutes out of the curing bag it becomes all wet and it is unsmokable very fast

I dried buds at 50% humidity and lower if I could. The only way to achieve it in an environment with normal humidity of 80% average and higher is drying with firewood

So when I took a bud dried like that in such an environment buds could last a couple of hours before becoming too wet

I saw that drying and bricking buds at 50% or lower retains terpenes and is very nice for vaping which is what I cared about. I smoke or vape. I dont chew. But it still makes some kind of fermentation and it is not the same terpenes as jar cure. I care for the high and not so much for the terpenes

But if you are living in a desertic environment where buds get dry too fast then things like the Boveda make sense. But for this part of the world Boveda is just a scam and useless

What I am trying to say is there is no one single recipe for all. It applies to food and it applies to making brick as well. It is a combination of factors such as your relative humidity and your prefered way to consume it.

It is basically trial and error. I didnt like the fermented brick. It is only good for smoking. For vaping it is horrible. Dried bud for me worked best for vaping. And I also liked it better smoking the dry cure brick than the fermented one, but this is my taste, so I cured after many trials according to what I like

What is absolutely no question about is that bricking is the best way to cure marihuana. I call marihuana unhybridized sativa plants. If it has indica in it then for me it is a hashplant. I dont care about the structure of the plants. If it has indica in it for me it is only good for extractions but not for smoking nor vaping nor bricking. But this is just me and it seems market thinks differently. Same with curing, market thinks jar cure is the best. Well, I found most modern weed degrade too fast in a jar, after 3 months starts degrading. This doesnt happen when bricking sativas and on the vacuum bag it can last very long time. It gives a long shelf life. A couple of years easy on a top notch sativa

I guess if I would move to a desertic environment and source bud, I would try to cure it with higher humidity
I stopped growing and I am on the move now, but as soon as I settle somewhere I will vacuum bag the weed I will source in the future. I might not grow again but this curing method will live with me forever until I die. It is simply unbeatable, better than banana bark and better than corn husk. It is a top notch cure
I just cant believe this is not the standard for curing weed

I hope it helps

Yesterday I opened two small cobs of KA5 and Destroyer the smell was so enticingly good I had to try some even though they were only aged for 2 months.
The taste was floral and sweet hash like but it was not aged enough for a good high even so it had no stone and was nice and energetic.
I sealed them up again until Christmas after drying.

Destroyer on the left KA5 on the right
IMG_4201.JPG

Then the bud I pulled off Destroyer I only had half of it so it was not a very high dose but it was very promising but def needed more drying and aging.

The 3 plants are all 7 weeks into flower today (Sunday) I talked to my mate that made the seeds and he says 9-10ish weeks so they are gonna get their swell on. Just bought some new soil/amendments for my next run and whatever is left will be be mixed up with the current soil and recycled. It's almost 6pm Here and after football I'll unwrap the current cob and look at it and air dry and remove parchment paper and reseal for a week and repeat. I'll take pictures of it when I unwrap it. Ohhh and there's actually small sucker buds from all three plants in this cob. Hound Dog/Hound Dog x Cap Junky/ White Widow x Cheese. Should be good. Maybe I should call it dog slobber!! 😂🤣

To be continued......

So here's the cob after the sweat. Very moist as you'll see. I just put it on a paper plate on top of the cob-a-tron. Leave it there for a few hours and then reseal for a week and then hurry up and wait. I'll put up another picture of it before I seal it back up. Smells like a skunk 🦨 pissed on a pine tree that's growing oranges!!! 😎✌️
