Non-friendly mid-west state here....

Trimmers are a security risk and I just don't have the time. I'll typically hand trim the main colas and run everything else through a trimpro rotor. Everything gets mixed back together and is still danker then anything around.

Blows all of this Twister'd shit coming out of the west out of the water... unfortunately the market doesn't want to pay the 3k - 3.6k anymore when the ignorant masses are OK with all these little "kush" nuggets flooding the scene here for ~2k or wherever it's at this season. If it's been through a Twister.. it's kush around here...and many seem to be embracing this "bag appeal".

Sure.. I know a couple of old heads that will gladly drop mid 3s for some AAA local indoor, but that's only a lb here and there. Unfortunately when dropping the whole load I'm at the mercy of the local brokers.. the same guys bringing in the large loads from CA and they are only wanting to pay a few hundred more then their CA import. It's bullshit.. but nobody else seems to have the cash on hand...

It's sad to see the fruits of my labor going for 2500/lb in my illegal state... down from 3k.. down from 3.6k, etc. Everyone "knows" someone who is still buying at X, but none of these fools have the cash and I'm done letting others play the fronted flip game while I'm at risk for massive losses if something goes wrong.

So.. I succumb to these lower prices while I look for other (and safe) outlets. Trying to prepare for the years to come and wondering/hoping I'll still have a place/livelihood in it all.

For now.. I'll continue to partially machine trim until the market forces me otherwise or pays me properly for hand trimmed local nugs. I'm certainly not going to kill myself hand trimming everything only to be met with the same figures while trying to compete with all of the decent (but twister'd) packs flooding our scene.

PS - I agree with leaving things a little "less" trimmed and making up for it extra weight. Why cut those little frosted protective covers off of the buds until they are ready to be consumed. Consumers should embrace this..

dont blame the growers out here…blame the consumers. they are the ones dictating the market, if they truly preferred hand trimmed they would pay the extra dollar. but like I've said a dozen times, market research in colorado has proven that 80% of smokers care more about price than quality. and you can't blame them pot is expensive! especially when you only make 40k a year and have bills to pay, and especially when some open sun kush from norcal will get them just as stoned as some indoors for half the price.

also, i hand trimmed and machine trimmed 50/50 this year. and to be completely fucking honest i could barely tell the different between the two. i run a lot of strains that dense up nicely and go through a trim pro with ease. and because i didn't have to pay 200 to trim the LB i can sell the LB for 200 dollars cheaper and 80% of the time my brokers prefer the cheaper ticket. and none of the shit coming off my farm are those little poopy "kush" nuggets although i do see them a lot. I'm happy to say my quality is pretty damn high i got rave reviews from the cherry pie.

i did hand trim all my OG and sours this year, sours took super long and average 250 a LB to trim, and I'm still sitting on those packs because my guys wanted all the blue dream first!! so what does that tell me, fuck hand trimmed sours since i put in MORE work to make less money. if you haven't run a big trim scene than you wouldn't know, its the most stressful part of the whole year, easily my least favorite part of this shit. having a bunch of random people on your property who you gotta watch and take care of constantly, its like baby sitting gone bad.

and also, its not really "legal" out here anyways. most of this bulk outdoor herb comes from gray market at best, growers who still gotta battle with the law and a whole bunch of other shit.

and lastly, think about it from the exporter angle. margins on outdoor and indoor are pretty damn close, but the investment/risk is much better for OD. would you rather move 100 OD units and only gamble 100k, to make the same 50k profit. or would you rather move 100 ID units and have to invest 250k to make the same 50k profit.

its really not the growers, they are simply adapting to their buyers. its the brokers who constantly lowball us and want the cheapest possible ticket, and the consumers who want to pay 40 an 8th instead of 60.

i agree with pretty much everything you said but i don't understand this part... 40x8=320 x16 = 5,120
that seems like enough profit to me if consumers are buying 40 an 8th.
so wouldn't it be who ever is breaking it down would be to blame?

Im sure he is talking about the clubs or resellers, getting $40 an eighth. But buying it at $15-$2k a pack...

In the end, the GROWERS are the fucked ones...

Here come the monopolies...

Lots of talk about consumers driving the market and just wanting cheaper weed regardless of how it looks or was handled/trimmed. I guess I can understand that, but what I really don't get is why ANYONE in these legal states would pay $200+ an ounce for mass-produced and machine-trimmed buds when they could easily and legally grow their own lovingly on a small personal scale. For the cost of a couple of ounces, any medical user can purchase grow gear and become completely self-sufficient.

Why any medical user would spend $3000+ per year on sub-par mass-produced weed when they could easily provide for themselves is beyond me. I got sick of paying for weed that was improperly cured or knocked to shit so I started growing my own, I'm amazed that more people don't do the same.

Not everybody can grow-- There are many scenarios that you just can't-- Same as why ppl don't grow all their own veggies, or raise their own meat--
Then you also have the ones that have the $$....and just don't have the time or inclination to grow--:tiphat:

Anyone can do anything that they put their mind to. :)

Do you grow all your own food?? Or, like most of us, do you not mind paying a store for the convenience of not having to do it??

I am not in a climate where I can grow food.

You are comparing apples to oranges....providing yourself with all the necessary food to sustain yourself would be a full time job, it's called farming. Weed is not necessary for sustenance, and does not require remotely the amount of resources. Anyone with a closet can become self-sustaining when it comes to cannabis with a couple hundred dollars invested and an hour per day of spare time.

I'm just saying that there are solutions for patients that do not want to support mass-producers that have bullshit business practices like using these mechanical trimmers to beat the crap out of the final product. The solution is to say screw you, I'm not spending my hard-earned money on your sub-par, mass-produced product, I'm going to grow my own medicine. This is the solution I employed, and I'm very grateful I did......my hard-earned cash now goes to worthwhile ventures instead of going into the pockets of greedy commercial growers.

That's the whole point of sites likes this, to spread the good word that growing is not as hard as people think, and anyone can do it. The more people that learn to provide for themselves, the better :)

nobody got time for that shit!! a lot of my homies don't grow, they like to travel, go out and party, and make money doing other shit. growing is a serious sacrifice to your quality of life if you do it seriously…if you're a recluse and like to stay home all the time than growing is perfect, but for most people its just a pain in the ass. having a grow in a residential can be annoying too, i grew for 5+ years in houses and I'm fuckin done with that shit, and tearing down both bedrooms. nothing fucks up a house worse than a growop, the amount of money i have to pay to fix and clean everything is worth a whole damn harvest….

and then you got the power bills and 4th tier usage….its way easier and cheaper to just buy an 8th here and there than get into growing.

Ahahaha, a serious sacrifice to my quality of life????? Funniest thing I've read all day!!!!! Let me guess, you are a large commercial grower with a vested interest? Wither that or you don't grow, because these arguments for it negatively affecting quality of life are absurd.

Quite the opposite my friend, growing has drastically enhanced my life BECAUSE I do it properly. No one knows I grow, or ever will......my set-up is in a very easily built set-up in my basement in a hidden grow closet, you can have a look in my sig if you like. It shares a large basement with my home recording studio, which I have people over to jam and record in almost daily......no recluse here! They have no idea they are standing within 5 feet of 4 huge budding plants. You know all that money I used to have to spend on shitty commercial bud??? That money went towards recording gear and musical instruments that I couldn't afford when I had to spend $300 a month on shitty medicine. Just one way growing has enhanced my life.

As far as vacations and having to be home, if you have half a brain and are capable of doing some very basic planning, neither is an issue. In one 3 month grow, I grow enough to least me a year or more.....very easy to do after 1 or 2 grows to dial things in. So it's not like it's an all the time thing. Summer time when it's hot and you want to take off all the time, I don't bother. I grow during the slow winter months. And that's not to say I don't take off, with some very basic planning and automation, I've left for as long at 2 weeks mid-grow without issue. And you know all that money I used to have to spend on shitty commercial bud???? That money can now do towards tropical vacations that I could never afford. A second way in which growing has drastically improved my quality of life.

And the big one: growing is not work or an inconvenience, it is a very enjoyable hobby. It has been showed in many studies that working with plants and gardening reduces stress and has all sorts of health benefits. Yet again an increase in quality of life.

You must not hang out in the growing section of these forums very often with you making it sound like no one wants to grow, enjoys it, or has time for it.

And I'm sorry, but saying that growing weed reduced your quality of life is a totally asinine comment anyway that you look at it.

Saying that "ain't no one got time for that shit" is like saying that no one has time for any other hobby or passion like sports, music, art, etc. I average 45 minutes a day on my grow for 3 months of every year. That's 45 minutes that people that "ain't got time for that shit" just spend rotting their brain in front of the TV anyway. Even for someone that doesn't enjoy growing weed (yet to meet someone that tried and doesn't like it), that small time investment results in a pretty big payoff. What other hobby can save you thousands of dollars per year?

Pretty obvious you have NEVER been past you closet grow...

Funny how the people who has NEVER experienced a huge grow, is all of a sudden an expert...
