lolryn: No clue what I'm doing, but stuff is growing thread

oh man, that's a bummer indeed, as one always wants at least 50% females when popping a certain variety one wants to try out. hope you have more seeds of that one variety to try again.

I'm also thinking of doing a SOG next round, but in the 60cm x 60cm tent we can only fit 9 square pots of 3.6 liters and we have 10 seeds to pop; the solution should be keeping one seed for later or pop the ten and discard the one with the least vigor... who knows.

how are you on female / male ratios on the other varieties?

peace!

I personally would do the last thing you said, pop all, chop the one with least vigor... especially after going 4/4 males this last go round.

before this Tranquil Elephantizer, I was pretty much just sitting on cruise control with clones of plant's I know I like. I lost the clones of my Purple Dream a while ago due to mites and I have a purple dream in flower right now... so I'm going to attempt to reveg it, because I'd hate to lose this genetic even though I've crossed it and currently growing out the cross (Purple Dream x Blue Tara(male)). all 4 are seedlings still.

I have 7 Tranquil Elephantizer seeds left, I'm gonna end up popping them at some point, but I don't think I I will be doing it soon... but who am I kidding, tonight I'll probably get really baked and say fuck it and pop the rest.

I also really would like to delve into some Blockhead BX, and Lotus Larry.... gahhhh the struggles of being a bodhi fanboy, you can't pop enough seeds!

I meant to add this earlier, but here's a pic of an Underdawg OG bud that was grown under HPS.... very different.

Hey lolryn,

Not sure how I didn't find this sooner but Im glad I found it now. Pulling up a chair for this. :lurk:

You have a great show going on and some really healthy happy looking plants. Love the genetics your working with as well, That RKU looks off the hook. Is a bummer about the 4/4 TE males but at least your making use of them for some projects.

That Underdawg OG nug and plant looks nice and tasty. How did you like it though, how were her flavors and high?

Keep up the good work man you are rocking along nicely, you have a great looking garden!

Awesomeeee another amazing grower checking in! I appreciate you stopping by and the kind words! :D

The RKU was/is fire. I'm probably not going to keep it around though... It smells(maybe a more skunk undertone), and tastes just like my Dream Lotus... I love the high of the RKU though, totally different than the DL... creeps up on you, hits hard for like 10 mins and then a really relaxed overall feeling. my Dream Lotus is more of a functional/clear head high...

sadly, with all those positives, It's got it's down sides (easily hermied, not that special (relative to an epic DL pheno), a bit overly stinky (only a bad thing when you need to keep it well managed) and with all the seeds and projects I have, I'd rather use that space for more hunting.

On to the Underdawg OG, well lets just say I got it as a fem'd freebie and thought it was going to be meh. Well, under HPS, it grew HUGE, easily cloned, nice lemon/skunky smells, hard hitting indica, dense as fuck nugs, easily trimmed and decently frosty. I was easily pulling 9oz from 1 lazily trained plant under 1x1kw light with 3 other plants around it...

this plant smells completely different, this smells like sweaty socks. I gave a few clones to a friend earlier this year when I was dealing with a mite problem. when I asked for a clone of the UDOG a few months ago, I wonder if he mistakenly mislabeled it and he gave me something else.

this abrupt switch from HPS errythang to LED errythang is kinda throwing me through a loop. but that's evolution!

I hope I covered it all! Thanks for stopping by and checking things out!

after looking through some pics, it does look like he mislabeled it, it looks like the Sage n' Sour I also gave him... which I'm not a fan of. I mean it's okay.... but not even close to top shelf.

here's was the Sage n Sour we did outdoors for fun:

I didn't even make it to the evening... I've dropped 4x Blue Tara into water. I thought I'd show some Appalachia love.

Thanks for stopping by! I'll try to keep you updated as much as possible! I don't know your situation, but if you're a little skeptical, I'd at least start with switching to LED for veg. I used to use t5's for veg and I noticed substantially more vigorous growth with an LED over a t5. I think the LED technology is catching up, and when that does, hopefully the prices will drop even more and make it available to more people.

yea im just a little skeptical. just used to the old fashioned hps and cfl. thats what i was thinking though was just try some out for veg before i go and toss out the hps in flower.. i keep watching your grow though see how it goes.

I got substantially more vigorous growth switching from a 2'x8 bulb t5
to a 300w "cheap" LED light. kind of a big investment up front in comparison to the counterpart t5... but it works so well for me, I don't think I'll ever go back to t5. :)

my fav... only thing it's lacking is the smell on the stem rub. but I'm not gonna cull just on that minor test.

well it is something to think about alot. i run a 4' 6 tube. i was looking today at a couple different LED lights on a website today. might pick up some and do a little side grow with them to see how they work for me.

I definitely would do this, this is practically what I did except I only did the side-by-side testing in veg. I got hit with a huge county-wide energy hike so I bought the lights and held my breath...

I don't know why skeptics don't just do a scaled down side by side grow in the first place... I mean worst case scenario you end up with a new/extra veg light. albeit expensive-ish.

LED has pretty poor light penetration, I'll admit that. That is the reason why I think so many people who go from HPS to LED and get bad results are in most cases people not pruning or training well enough. in my amateur-status as a grower, I have noticed better smelling, and greener/happier overall plants more so under LED than when I was growing under HPS.

again, that's just my experience, results may vary :p

I know a 3 day update isn't necessary at all, but I'm bored and took some pics so I thought I'd share!

here are some of the seedlings! the 4 bigger ones are my GDP x Blue Tara. The other 4 are all Blue Tara. 3 are up and I don't think the other is gonna pop up. shit happens!

this is the HSO 707 Headband. should be in flower, but I got a little rough with a branch so I'm letting it recoup before setting her off... also sorry about the light being on.

Here are the 4 Tranq dudes. The one on the right is the one I've been in love with, and is still living up to expectation.

Nice thread dude. Cant go wrong with Bodhi. I'm running two packs of Blockhead BX at the moment. They're curently approaching week 1 of Bloom. The Blockhead cut was popular up the coast a few years back and I've been hunting down the original for years. Looking forward to seeing what B's rendition will look like. I popped two packs, and ended up with an inordinate # of males, but still came away with 8 females. Im confident I'll find a BHead keeper :xmastree:
I'll link here when I thread the grow. Just been lazy

Please do link I'd love to keep an eye on it!

I sadly culled my Blockhead male, it was way too big for the area I have for the males. but at least the Tranq males are turning out great!

I've personally never had the og strain or bodhi's attempt... but from the description it sounded like a plant I'm looking for; dense, indica, sweet, colorful, high yielding, quick flowering plants. if you've had the og strain(smoke or grown), would this accurately describe it? if so, the rest of the blockhead is probably going to get popped some time in the near future. :p

Studly McGee and I kinda like how the other one sorta fim'd itself (I've let these males grow out with no training what so ever), very even canopy. but so far not very dense at all.

had to cut some of the fan leaves off that were bigger than my face, the undergrowth wasn't getting any love :(

I love how naturally even the canopy is on this.
