I seem to vaguely remember seeing Merle Saunders at the Iron Horse (think that's the name of the place)
back in the early 90's. What's the name of the college right outside Northampton, MA? I remember the girls name I 'visited' there. Haven't been back east in 10 good solid years.
YosemiteSamSo next outdoor I am going with the 1/3 Premier Peat, 1/3 Lava Rock, 1/3 compost/ewc. Definetly your neem/kelp/crustacean.
Couple of questions though:
1) basalt or glacial rock dust or some combo?
2) my compost is going to be fair but I would not call it great and I just cannot come up with enough vermicompost this yr. Given that I will probably do some vermi teas...but here is the question...without the help of the worms digestive system do you have an opinion if I need to add any "lime"? Probably just CaCO3 as I am guessing the compost I can get has enough Mg.
W89--I got a bottle of 99.7% aloe juice at a health food store. Turns out it's made about an hour from me. Fairly cheap, too.

Question 1: Either one and a mix also has some advantages. If you have one and finding the other would incur some crazy costs then go with what you have. I have a preference for Basalt but some of that is that it's a locally produced product. Big deal, right? LOL
Question 2: What about using Gypsum because that will give you elemental Calcium and then you have the Sulfur which does what you already know and that will deconstruct the Calcium Carbonate in the crustacean shells. If you decided that might work for you then I'd suggest something like 1/2 cup to 1 c.f. which would basically be 1 tablespoon (+) per gallon of potting soil.
Does that make sense given your understanding Sulfur in a soil mix?

Top-dress the plants with 2" of EWC today! Make the kelp & alfalfa tea and apply as Blue Jay Way suggested. If you started the tea today then you would be ready to apply that on Wednesday night at the latest.
Done. Finis. Ovah.
