Actually that could explain a couple of observations when using the heirloom Barley from Tibet vs. the hybrid strains usually found. I learned that there are actually 4 or 5 'purple' cultivars from the Himalaya Mountains - Tibet, Bhutan, etc. which are being grown by boutique grain farmers.

Many enzymes are proteins - most is probably the more accurate term. The activity in the soaking cycle after sprouting is far higher with the purple barley I was gifted by Gascan. Especially 'fungi fuzz' on the top of the water if you're not aerating the mix. Within 18 hours or less at room temperature. A huge amount in and around the mouth of the jar.

I'm using a 1/2 gallon Mason-type jar. Could be another brand but it's the same deal. A 6-pack of the 1/2 gallon jars are around $10.00 at Ace Hardware - pretty hard to beat that price.

I need to hit up a ace hardware for some jars!

I have a 50lb sack of barley seed that will last two or three years, easy, but with the recent barley discussions and my own research I would like to order a pound of a couple different kinds of these 'purples', and the Tokuji if its even available anywhere....

Hey there BG; soooooo why would you want to buy your soil, why not just make your own and enjoy taking a more direct role in the process of caring for the plant? Its empowering;)

I don't want to buy living soil i am just trying to understand the concept better so i can direct some chem farmers towards ROS, but i am having difficulty explaining what are the identifying aspects of ROS containers (to a FARMER) so i framed the question that way.

IMHO i can mostly tell the soil has come alive be the presents of invertebrates.

Hit their web site, order the jars and have them shipped to a local Ace Hardware. No S&H charges apply

'Ship to Store' or something close. ChinaMart has a similar program as well and probably others. Competition is pretty tough out there so take advantage.

Cootz I know you promote the use of Aloe a lot, But I used my Aloe plant it was only small... So I went back to the shop I got it from and complained it didn't grow quick enough- Not really! LOL but I picked up some other succulents they didn't have a name on the pot tho just mix succulents.. Can I still use them for the same thing as Aloe? I have been but I just just wondering what you thoughts are un till I get my freeze dried

I have no idea on other plants. I wouldn't buy aloe vera from a grow store - a better choice would be a healthfood store and start scanning labels on the juice products.

"Sodium Benzoate" is the one you want to avoid. Citric acid, Ascorbic acid, Potassium Sorbate, Lemon juice, etc. are the safe one's you'll find. Some type of preservative is required if it's in liquid form. No way around that so read labels closely

EDIT EDIT: there is actually some over the chemist over the road will see what preservatives there is in it as I looked before but there was too many to remember Now I know only the sodium one is bad thanks again

I understood your question and I answered with "I have no idea on other plants"

May be a better answer would have been "I have no idea about using different plants in place of aloe vera"

For example I probably wouldn't try to use Iceberg lettuce if Comfrey wasn't available. That kind of analogy......

RE: Aloe Vera Extract, 200XX, Organic

MileHighGuy found this source, Ingredients to Die For, which offers the dried aloe vera with fair prices. I ordered 8 oz. for $75.00 delivered price. That's enough to make 12.5 gallons of pure, unadulterated aloe vera juice - $6.00 per gallon vs. $25.00+ for liquid versions.

I went on a website that sells a whole manner of different vitamins chemicals plants extracts loads of stuff and on the site you had an apply for sample so I did hopefully it will come through the post soon... If not I did find some freeze dried 5 grams for £5 or something like that but 5 grams makes a liter of aloe then that liter makes 65 liters of what we need init? is that right cootz..

my 6.5 ltr pots only take between half liter to 3/4 liter depends how moist they are so 64 liters wwould last a while...

I'll round some conversion numbers to make it easier.

1 gallon = 3.75 liters and to that amount of water you would have started with 56 grams of aloe vera juice, i.e. 1 gram powder with 199 grams water = 200 grams of aloe vera juice - it's this mix that you would use 56 grams with enough water to equal 3.75 liters total.

Does that make sense?
