Smartpot worm bin - I don't want to assume what I think it may be (which would be super easy) - do you mind elaborating how your utilizing worms here?
*****
If i could just take one of my large smartpots (i.e. #45 or #25) sitting around and fill it with compost / leaves / ammendments etc etc and the worms will do there thing, then that would be ideal, & awesome.
Even letting recycled soil "rest" in a smartpot with worms added to regergitate (revitalize!) the mix, that would be great too.
Applying real world Botany is helpful I'm thinking......
Auxins derive their name from the Greek word αυξειν (auxein - "to grow/increase"). They were the first of the major plant hormones to be discovered.
The (dynamic and environment responsive) pattern of auxin distribution within the plant is a key factor for plant growth, its reaction to its environment, and specifically for development of plant organs[4][5] (such as leaves or flowers). It is achieved through very complex and well coordinated active transport of auxin molecules from cell to cell throughout the plant body — by the so-called polar auxin transport.[4] Thus, a plant can (as a whole) react to external conditions and adjust to them, without requiring a nervous system. Auxins typically act in concert with, or in opposition to, other plant hormones. For example, the ratio of auxin to cytokinin in certain plant tissues determines initiation of root versus shoot buds.
Do tell..this sounds interesting.I have access to fresh organic chicken manure in boulder colorado... or somewhere here.
My local nursery carries it... but it has a slow release coating on it that keeps it from burning your plants.
I'll have to go get some more info from my Nursery Lady about the product.
If it's the real deal, I'm sure she would be happy to ship it as she has a whole dump truck full and says it's her favorite product.
I've got a pretty solid working knowledge on auxins but that wasn't what I was talking about. You mean like talking about auxins and stuff?....I'd just rather not talk about things that really exist and really matter. Heh...Ahhh, but maybe just this one time.

It was a good post - I wasn't applying the term stoner science to you or the information you provided.Trust me I am not trying to educate you...I did think I brought in real science to the equation though. I just thought I would post my real world experience and knowledge of the subject in reference to gascanastans post to others whom may have not stumbled across it or had others guide them to it.

The #65 SmartPot is about 8.x cubic feet so you would want to use 7 bags of bedding material.
I add 4 cups of kelp meal, 1 gallon of glacial rock dust (did) and now it will be basalt rock dust and also 4 cups of neem meal.
Mix thoroughly and hydrate. Add as many worms or cocoons that you can afford. Keep the bedding properly hydrated is all you want or need to do.
LEAVE THE WORMS ALONE!!!! - LOL
The advantage to the SmartPots is that they are made from post-consumer plastics, in America (well - Oklahoma so I'm stretching the point), and gives you both aeration as well as proper hydration levels - these are THE MOST IMPORTANT factors in creating quality vermicompost.
Get those 2 factors dialed in and you can't possibly fail.
Hang out at RedWormComposting.com and sign-up for Bentley's email - he runs the best vermicompost worm site that I have been able to find. His archives are worth spending a few weeks at. Pure gold.

Diversity, as usual, is a worthy goal and this deal is no different.- If I'm reading this right, bedding material could be any number of mediums (and mixes of) depending on the goal of the particular batch.
Or the universal "The guy at the grow store said that I should (fill in the blank)"
Always a winning combination isn't it?
I fear Wa state may not have seen the worst from this yet...the flood gates are open to the marketers with the new stoner-bro products designed for a legal recreational intoxicant.

Not much talk of Vitamin B-1 these days. Former user here...I've read pages and pages of Vitamin B-1 studies...my final conclusion seems......inconclusive.It was a good post - I wasn't applying the term stoner science to you or the information you provided.
I'm talking about 'goober-speak' on products like bat guano, Superthrive, Vitamin B-1, Cal-Mag Lockout mythology, interesting approaches to Integrated Pest Management (IPM) with adulterated versions of Linalool and especially neem-derived gunk, bagged potting soils having any merit whatsoever, PK enhancers, 'proprietary ingredients' and the list goes on.
