Lazy Growing

Thanks for the super clear demonstration of topping. I think anyone who doesn't understand it should visit this thread. Thats probably as good as it gets. Amazing results on such a young plant.

On which plant 3t?
the smokey girl and bruised nuts were topped, the daughter of smokey girl was grown single cola, then tied down during flower, then released during flower, to create the F shaped plant.

Bruised Nuts :biglaugh: that kills me, what a great strain name.

Good luck with that cut :ying: I'd love to see you do it successfully.

I've read before that is was best to wait till around your 5th node before topping a from seed plant. What is your opinion on that and what's the youngest you've topped?

Well I let them get to the first set of single bladed leaves, I never top at the cotylons.
I figure, if you fuck up a seedling, you've only lost a week. Why not top em young.

The heavily budded cutting, didnt make it. Ah well. The other cuttings did.

Right on GMT, nice thread dood! I like that pic of such an early topping, it looks really cool and it's interesting to see how well the plant bounces back with so little structure still............Good luck with them pillars and i hope that eucya works out for ya bro......take care

looking good - i love how you top so young - i now understand the idea behind it. very cool. I thought you just lived on the edge - but now knowing that makes sense - shit you only lost a week! no biggie!

real nice :yoinks: :yoinks: :yoinks: Amazing how early you top them, but I see the advantages. The stems get more time to become thicker, early on more direct light distribution along the canopy which speeds up things......more buds from 1 plant :joint: I'm envious and wish I saw your technique before I started my current crop, could improve yields :chin:

Hi Somoz, thanks for the advice, the room now smells like a koala bear's picnic lol.
Hi DP, nah just lazy mate, I'll leave living on the edge for the younger sportier types.
Hey Dre, thanks, you've got the idea now, there's always next crop ;) I love having a quote in your sig from me too.

I figured as much lol. Good to know your lazy and still sane. I'm quite envious of the smell of your grow area with the eucalyptus. I LOVE that. I've actually been following the bonsai thread a little bit. I'm considering finding a sub-tropic eucalyptus tree to make as a bonsai indoor plant just for the smell. Last June I went to Maui-Hawaii and we did this down-hill bike ride tour and drove through a lot of eucalyptus. It smelt sooo good! I've also heard it works as a great auto air-freshener. Take a couple cuttings and put it on your dash in the sun and it cooks them up good and stinks up the place. MMmmm euca...

GMT, since you don't seem to have a problem with topping seedlings at a young age, maybe you can help me. What would be the earliest and best way I could take a clone for sexing purposes? I want to start a few more plants and scrog them, but I want to know if they're male or female ASAP so as not to waste time or space with males.

Your pictures have really made a lot of things make more sense to me, thanks!

hey DP thanks for the vote of sanity lol.

Bounty, go to the first page of this thread, you'll see cloning there, just flip the cuts to 12/12 straight away, they should show sex by the time they are rooted, then toss the plants the males came from and retake some more from your girls for the next round. Personally I just tend to throw them into the flowering room and throw the males as they show.

I may have to try some early toppers on a batch..as you know..I rarely top at all..I like the big giant kola..even at a yield loss..
but I'm eagar to see what bushing out a BubbleDust plant from seed does..I've topped the clones..but some clones keep to their branch type structure..
I wanna do a "from seed" and attempt twin towers.. :chin:

The lower popcorn buds just get removed anyway Pack, so if you are gonna top, then you may as well use those nodes up early. Over here there's normally a lot of moisture in the air, and topping really helps to reduce the bud rot probs I can end up with when growing fat buds. The more there are, the smaller they get, and this just works out for me, they all get broken up and put into jars anyway. The yields as you know do increase with topping, but given a short veg period, 3 layers of topping seem to be about the most benefit. That gives you 8 tops at an even hight. A twin towers approach will still give you 2 fairly tall buds. Just not as fat. For your environment that would probably work out for you, for me I have to reduce the individual buds as much as possible, or do everything I can to keep moisture right down, which is a pisser.

No problem on that vote lol. I topped my hydro planties a couple of days ago. Hoping they'll give me some cloning points too soon so I can sex them out. I'll have to try your method of sexing them so I can see what the hell they are. =) Lets hope its all boobs and no balls.

All I can say is wow! Thanks for explaining on how to do this. Will give this a try in my first grow here in a couple of days! I will keep checking back on a regular basis!

Hiya GMT
Been a bit since I've had a chance to walk through my favorite gardens... The blue background on your last set of shots is a fab contrast to the plants!

I started out using a lot of lst training, but topping by your method is surely the least time intensive way to get fat yielding plants.

"I figure, if you fuck up a seedling, you've only lost a week. Why not top em young." Exactly - makes good sense to me! :respect:

hi Gmt,

I read your thread but being a non native english I didn't get something, i hope you dont mind : did you remove the top bud from that flowering clone ? I'm thinking it may be good to prevent rot in the clone box and wonder.thank you

Hi DP, wishing you luck.
Flutch, starting your first grow hey, the most exciting of all grows, congrats on trying to get out from under the dealers. This site has lots of great growers on it who will help you out, feel free to ask anything you want to know, wither in this thread, your own threads, or others, I have no doubt someone will be able to answer you.
MGJ me old mucker, I haven't been wondering through the gardens much recently either. Busy preparing for another seed run in a couple of weeks, and have stuff going on in the real world too at the moment, so it's all go, albeit at a very slow speed. Yeah I like that blue in photos like that, my cam is pretty low quality, so it works nicely on closeish shots like that, but when backing off for a full plant shot, it lacks a little. "Least time intensive" Yep, that's what its all about here mate. Us IC old guard folk are all in a mutual respect cirlcle I think. We've all picked the techniques that work for us from those we have seen in the past, and made them ours.
Lurker, hi, well that particular clone is the only one that didn't take. Although it is possible and just that not all clones root. No I wouldn't remove the bud from a flowering cut, its actually the bud that the new shoots of growth will come from. Bud rot is more of a problem in the flowering closet, as the temps tend to be higher, and the humidity in mine is also higher.
