Jamaican bag seed - have you seen this before?

sorry to burst your bubble but in the 70's and 80's there was so much imported dutch genetics into jamaica that most of their strains there are of dutch/jamaican hybrid. alot of jamaican weed has skunk genes in it as skunk #1 was imported to breed with the local stuff to improve yield and hardyness of the plants.

The old Jamaican strains are still there, just much more rare.
Doubt skunk reached Jam till the late eighties, and it was only used for yield and quick flowering not hardiness, as it was not as mold or storm resistant as the old Jam strains. Also some of the real Jamaican strains are named after skunk such as "purple skunk" which has no actual skunk in it.

So is it showing preflowers now? I want to see this little guy.

'Guy' may be an accurate description actually. It's not 100% either way but I'm 90% sure it's going to be a dude. The plan is to take 2 cuttings this week and put this plant into 12/12. In the event it's a dude, I've got some solid options for a cross, then possibly a back-cross depending on what he brings to the table.

I found six beans, four sprouted and one of the four is definitely a male. In my experience, genetic quality is apparent in veg and only one other plant out of the four looks like it could be halfway decent. Regardless of the direction I take this (breeding, flowering, culling), I'll be sure to keep this thread updated as all four plants will be given a chance regardless of how structurally desirable I believe them to be.

I've seen frost on seedlings like that. Not sure if it actually will be more resinous than seedlings not showing early resin, but at least you know that plant will be resinous. I like plants that show early resin because I can lightly rub the leaf and get a good indication of it's fragrance.

What did you think of the herb the seeds came from? Was it sativa or indica dominant?

There were 3 varieties in the bag and they were all sativa dominant. I don't know which seeds came from which variety but I can guarantee that regardless of how much I might have liked any of the strains, none were grown to their genetic potential. Not only can I do a better job growing them, but the herb won't be so damaged from excessive handling when it's being grown ten feet away from my bong.

End of the 80s and the 90s you mean.In the 70s the Dutch homegrown was spinach with full of seeds.Old Ed came at the end of the 70s with good genetics and Skunk was introduced in 1984.:D

Namaste :plant grow: :canabis:

Some Canadians took seeds from India over in 1970, the crosses ended up being the basis for 'colly weed', full of seeds but knock your head off smoke

Since when it's only a very few areas that any of the original Jamaican exists, mostly the west end of the Island

BTW tourist weed takes 7 weeks seed to harvest over here, I'm in Negril at the moment and we've just cut next weeks weed as it looks cloudy and it takes 3 days to dry it out the point of being able to sell it

Probably they brought seeds from South-India or North???

Quick Update

Quick Update

Shim has been in his flowering closet for a few days now and I recently discovered that he has a decent looking sister who has also been flowering for less than a week. I plan on crossing shim with a resinous indica-dominant female (shown below) and then taking the most 'Jamaican-dominant' female progeny to back-cross with shim's clones.

The goal is to hopefully find some interesting F1's from the indica/shim cross while also continuing to work with shim and his more Jamaican offspring to find something more pure in future back-crosses.

Jamaican Male (Shim):

Shim's resin:

Shim's sister (The aroma from her stems is savory and rich as compared to the other females I work with, quite interesting actually):

Wow I never saw resin so soon; awesome looking leaves, bet it'd be dyno smoke. I had Jamican smoke in Montego Bag many moons ago and it was among my best ever.

I've got some ak47 seeds popped right now and theyve looked like this since the first set of serrated leaflets sprouted out. Most plants look like this imo, at least from my experience. Saying that they are cbd heads sounds erroneous to me. I believe that the cannabinoids arent divided into different resin glands, but rather they (thc, cbd, cbn etc) are all in the resin glands together.

Damn, quoting myself. Anyway my 'ak47' actually turns out to be skunk. wtf? check my thread for the story.
So my skunk leaves actually have amber glands on them now and continues to push out fresh ones. cheers man, nice grow.

Quick update here....

Shim has given me pollen. I really like his internodal-spacing and his flower clusters:

As you can see by the wilted pistols, the pollen has been chucked and accepted by Shim's girlfriend:

This is one of Shim's bagseed sisters. Interesting thing to note here is that she seems sensitive to the HID lighting and sensitive to even my low levels of feedings. She has a savory scent similar to sweet body odor:

A shot of her resin at day 29:

So I got two females from my four bag seed seeds that germinated and here is a shot of one at day 48. She'll probably get chopped in a few days when her promix pot is dry. I didn't clone this one as she had a poor structure in veg and her scent in flowering turned out to be a little unpleasant; way too earthy for my tastes with some fruit and skunk. The other female is much more desirable in regards to structure and scent and I do have a cutting of her in veg in hopes she smokes well. Whereas the plant below seems to have more indica influence than I prefer, the other female definitely leans more to the sativa side of the spectrum which is what I always prefer. I'll post a picture of her at harvest.

Looking very nice. You did utilize that male to gen the females you found right? Very interesting grow brother. U will have to let us know how she smokes! Props bro

I didn't purposely cross the Jamaican male to the two Jamaican bagseed females, but as with any cross I do, pollen never seems to stay where I wanted it to stay. In other words, some of the male Jamaican pollen did find its way to the Jamaican females as well as my Kali Mist, Ak47, and two of my own clone-only strains. The only cross that I'm really interested in is Shim x Dumpster and possibly Shim x Kali Mist. Depending on how the more desirable Jamaican female smokes, I may or may not mess with the few beans that come from her. If she's already enjoyable as is, why mess with it?
