Jamaican bag seed - have you seen this before?

The future mother of Shim's Kids....Is this from Cali Connection

It's a clone-only strain called dumpster. Supposedly it's G13 x Northern Lights, found in a dumpster somewhere in Ohio 25 years ago. I got a cut of it when I was working there.

This is the second and last female to come out of my Jamaican bagseed grow. She was topped once, grew to about 40 inches tall and looks like she'll yield pretty well actually (70 grams?). The other Jamaican female grew to roughly the same height but was a very poor yielder at around 26 grams.

This female is the one I cloned as shes had a very unique scent from the very beginning; savory, musky and sweet like pleasant body odor if that makes any sense. I'll get some smoke reports up when I feel they're ready to be sampled.

Even though I didn't pollinate these two Jamaican females on purpose, some pollen did make it's way over to them as I've spotted a few beans.

Hey HB, your lady looks so sexy with frosty and dark orange (red?) hairs. :D

how long this strain have flowering ? Because you mentioned that you have Shim crossed with kali mist, it will shorten the flower period ?

Happy growing

The first Jamaican female plant flowered for 55 days I think and the second went around 60 days. The Shim x Kali Mist cross wasn't intentional and I don't know how Shim will affect Kali's flowering period. I hope to have enough time/space to explore that cross as Kali Mist is my fave .

Good thread mate....You going to pop any more of those seeds?

I kick meself for not bringing any seeds back from JA.

that's how i started out growing was from jamaican vacation bag seed which was lots better than the local bagseed. this was 10 years ago before i knew you could buy far better genetics online. now i miss my weed when i go on vacation to negril and have to settle for wet, uncured commercial jamaican.

I sampled the plant in post #36 a few days ago and I'll tell you what, it was as strong as anything that I've ever ordered online. My guess is that the herb we buy down there is either not being grown correctly, handled poorly, or not being grown in the best environment. I'll give a full smoke report in a few weeks but don't under-estimate bagseed.

In posts #36 and #42, I have two pictures of the jamaican bagseed females that I grew out. Here is a quick smoke report:

We'll call the Jamaican lady in post #42, Jam#1. She's the one I cloned and she had all the signs of being a keeper. Hollow stems, fragrant even as a small plant, good yielder and sativa-leaning. Well, she's no good. After trimming her, I smoked some of the scissor hash from her and noticed the high was a little weak and short-lived. I just chalked that up to the possibility that I may have had more plant matter than resin on my scissors. Well, I finally smoked some of her flowers and granted she could've been cured longer than a week, but given the same time frame with other strains, she's pretty weak. She has a pleasant taste, citrusy almost and she smokes pretty smooth given her age. The buzz is almost too weak to really distinguish whether it's in the head or body and even then, the buzz is nearly gone in an hour. Usually with strains that I enjoy, there is this intensity for the first 30-45 minutes where you are just blasted and with this strain, I don't think you could ever achieve any kind of intense high/buzz. To be honest, all of the buds I smoked in Jamaica were better than Jam#1.

Jam#2 in post #36 is a different story. She had a terrible structure in veg, so much so that I really didn't have any branches to clone. I would say she was a borderline runt. Her aroma in flower was earthy and almost harsh and I was glad I didn't clone her. Her aroma towards harvest was a little more pleasant and her resin production was pretty solid. I gave her about a 2 week cure and she was pretty impressive to smoke. She smoked pretty harsh, lung expanding though her flavor wasn't nearly as earthy as I'd expected. Her buzz went right to the top of my head, worked it's way around my skull and for the first 20 minutes, I almost just wanted to close my eyes and enjoy the intensely cerebral effects. The buzz eventually worked it's way down my neck and into my body at which point I was kind of humming head-to-toe. Definitely a heavier buzz after about the 30 minute mark, very relaxing and would be excellent for pain relief or sleep. Her duration is average, 2 hours I guess, but it's hard to resist the temptation to take a nap after smoking her so with that kind of effect, the length of the buzz doesn't really matter.

Given the variation in quality, I'm skeptical as to what I'll get out of this Dumpster cross. I guess there's only one way to find out.

any updates? id love to see how the jam/shim crosses went if anything has come of them.

Thanks for the interest :tiphat:.

So I germed 10 Shim/Dumpster beans, all ten came up and I just culled my last male about 20 mins ago bringing the final count to 5 males and 5 females. More than half (maybe 6?) of the plants had resin on the leaves like Shim did but unfortunately most of those turned out to be males. They were also some of the best looking plants to come out of the 10 beans I sprouted. I do have 1 female with resin on the leaves that I'm excited about as her structure looks very desirable and her leaf margins look like a jigjaw blades. Another female has that sweet, musky smell that one of my bagseed plants had but if I remember correctly, that plant turned out to be not so great. The other 3 females are sturdy with below average branching and are a little stretchy for my tastes. The leaves look more 'Dumpster dominant' and I'll just have to wait and see what they're capable of producing.

In the next week or two, the females will be cloned and put into flower and at that point, I should have some decent pics to share.

Forgive my lack of pics at this moment, I'm in the process of getting a new computer and it takes too much time to upload a pic with this current PC.

A quick hint, if you don't want pollen wandering round your garden, wait about half an hour after pollinating, then give your garden a misting down, especially around where you pollinated, water kills pollen dead.

So here are a few pics of the females that I'm growing out.

There are two more females out of the 10 beans I germinated and I'll get pics of those up at some point.

The amount of resin on the leaves depends on the pheno:

I'll get some pics of the other phenos but they're either waiting to go into flower or just started flowering. Thanks for following along!

Nearly every bean I sprout has early seedling trichs... But I sort a lot of dank gear. lol

I think it is also an indication of a healthy / happy environment...the seedling is thriving. The proper conditions allow the fullness of the plant to shine.

I do also believe it can indicate high resin potential, however, not all resin is created equal - this we know.

Here's some good vibes for a stellar find!
