Stress, plastic additives in late pregnancy raise risk of premature birth

Women exposed simultaneously to stress and plastic additives late in pregnancy are at increased risk for premature birth, according to a study by Rutgers and other institutions.
The study, published in the journal Environment International, is the first to analyze a link between stress and phthalates—a group of chemicals in plastics, personal care products and electronics—and premature births. The findings are the latest in the Infant Development and the Environment Study, which tracked 783 women throughout their pregnancies between 2010 and 2012.
"Both exposure to phthalates and high levels of stress have been individually linked to births before 37 weeks gestation, but how these two risk factors may influence each other had not been previously explored," said co-author Emily Barrett, an associate professor at Rutgers School of Public Health and Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences Institute. "Our research suggests that the third trimester is the critical window for these risks."
People are exposed to phthalates by eating and drinking foods from containers and products containing the chemicals, through packaging and food handling equipment, through their skin in personal care products and in the air they breathe.
While stress itself is not related to the exposure of these plastic additives, stress can affect the immune system, lead to inflammation and change hormone levels, potentially making these women more vulnerable to the adverse effects of phthalates.
Barrett said other factors—how a woman perceives stress, how she uses social supports to lessen stress and the total number of stress events in her life—can affect how stress during pregnancy affects her child's health. The researcher recommends that pregnant women limit their exposure to phthalates by eating less processed foods and reducing use of plastics and personal care products.
The researchers analyzed urine samples throughout the women's pregnancies for traces of phthalates and reviewed questionnaires they completed in their third trimester about stressful events—such as job loss, serious illness, family death, relationship difficulties and legal or financial problems—during their pregnancies. About nine percent of the women delivered prematurely, 70 percent of which were spontaneous.
"Mothers who had higher levels of phthalates in their urine and reported stress during their pregnancy as well were more likely to give birth preterm," Barrett said. "We think that stress may make the body more vulnerable to the impacts of chemicals in our environment, like phthalates."

The chemicals in consumer products and food work in combination, just as they do in our medications,” says William Rea, MD, director of the Environmental Health Center in Dallas.
New research areas are expanding our understanding. The link between phthalates and surging rates of chronic disease is one example. Other researchers have focused on people who are more sensitive to chemicals than most of us.
Phthalates affect different groups of people in different ways:
DBP, BBP, and DEHP have declined in recent years. They’re now below the amounts considered unsafe by federal health agencies. But exposure to replacement phthalates likes DINP, DnOP, and DIDP is higher.
Are They Safe?
There’s no simple answer to this question. Here’s why:
Phthalates aren’t a single chemical. They’re an entire family of them. And like most families, they don’t behave the same way.
Three of them, BBP, DBP, and DEHP, are permanently banned from toys and products intended to help children under 3 sleep, eat, teethe, or suck.
DBP and DEHP damage the reproductive systems of lab rats, especially males. Tests on people show DBP can irritate skin. We’re not sure if BBP causes cancer in people, but research shows it may have caused cancer in lab rats. DEHP is confirmed to cause cancer in animals, and expected, but not confirmed, in people. It also causes developmental problems in animals, but it hasn’t been shown to affect people the same way.
Three more, DiDP, DINP, and DnOP, are under an interim ban from toys that can go into a child’s mouth.
DiDP can make your eyes and skin red or cause nausea, dizziness, and vomiting. DINP causes tumors and developmental problems in lab rats. In 2014, California added it to its list of chemicals known to cause cancer. But it hasn’t been proven to cause cancer in people. DnOP was linked to endometriosis in women and caused problems in reproductive development in rats. It can irritate the skin in both people and animals.

- Medical tubing and fluid bags
- Wood finishes, detergents, adhesives, plastic plumbing pipes, lubricants, solvents, insecticides, building materials, and vinyl flooring
- Food, especially meat and dairy products and fast food
How Do They Get Into My Body?
They come from:
- Food or beverages served or packaged in plastic that has phthalates
- Dairy and meat from animals that have been exposed
- Cosmetics, shampoo, skin moisturizers and other personal care products
- Dust in rooms where the carpet, upholstery, or wood finishes contain phthalates
- Work in painting, printing, or plastics processing
- Have a medical condition like kidney disease or hemophilia. Kidney dialysis and blood transfusions often use IV tubing and other supplies made with phthalates.

- Watch what you eat. Studies show that diets high in dairy and meat bring high levels of phthalate exposure.
- Avoid fast food. Zota and other researchers have found that fast food containers can be a source of harmful exposure.
- Ask for phthalate-free medical devices if you are on kidney dialysis or receive a blood transfusion.

Farmers from across Germany have descended on Berlin to take part in a mass protest against the government’s agricultural reform package that foresees a reduction in the use of fertilizers, pesticides and insecticides.
Line after line, the area around the Brandenburg Gate in central Berlin was clogged up with tractors from all over Germany.
Farmers had driven them into the capital days in advance to be more visible to the general public as their mass protest got underway on this Tuesday in November.
The plot to surveil the Trump campaign went all the way to “the top” of the Obama administration, the president says.
They were highly aware they were causing traffic jams in downtown Berlin, but people needed to take notice and take an interest in why they were there, they argued.
“We can’t continue like this as overregulation is the last thing we need,” said an angry farmer from the Nordhorn area near the German-Dutch border, who has taken the trouble to drive his tractor to Berlin in an 11-hour ride. “We are not willing to accept what those at the top want us to do without consulting us upfront.”
They both presented an agricultural package in September saying that farmers would have to reduce their use of fertilizers, pesticides and insecticides with a view to curbing the dying of insects and reducing the nitrate content in the groundwater.

“Yes, we’ve made mistakes in the past, no doubt about that, but we’ve learned from them,” the pig and cattle farmer from near Nordhorn told DW. But we’re still the nation’s scapegoat as a whole when it comes to the nitrate debate,” he went on. “We’re not convinced that the measurements made recently are correct — I’ve got the impression that only the worst cases were reported, but all of us have are made to assume collective responsibility for the few sinners.”
“We want to see honest research into where the nitrate content in the groundwater really comes from,” said another farmer from Bavaria. “I’m not saying that our fertilizers don’t contribute to it,” he conceded. “But there are other causes as well — however, we farmers are the only ones targeted by the government, and that’s unfair.”
Another two men from family farms in Oldenburg (some 470 kilometers, 292 miles away from Berlin) said they couldn’t agree more.
“While everyone is targeting us farmers, there’s little coverage about the desolate state many of the nation’s wastewater treatment plants are in, meaning a lot of nitrate reaches the groundwater every day that shouldn’t really reach it at all.”

“When we’re supposed to reduce the use of fertilizers by 20% as the government wants us to, it means that our plants get 20% less nutrients every year, and that will have a corresponding impact on our yields and our incomes,” said the farmer from Bavaria. “I’d love my son to join our business, but if you can’t live off it in the future, it doesn’t make any sense to keep him interested.”
There was agreement among the farmers gathered in Berlin that agricultural subsidies will have to continue to flow to prevent even more farms from going bust.
“If prices for our products were a lot higher, we wouldn’t need any subsidies,” the farmers from Oldenburg told DW. “But then there would also be a lot of price pressure from eastern Europe and other nations which — also because of trade agreements — are making our lives hard with their cheap exports.”
“We shouldn’t really be talking about subsidies at all,” said the farmer from Bavaria. “I’d call them compensation payments for the costs we have as a result of high production standards. Without such payments, we would have a devastating disadvantage on the market vis-a-vis nations where production standards are not nearly as high.”
There’s a general feeling among the farmers here that the government has failed to consider their interests while trying to push through even more regulation.
“Our mass protest in Berlin today really unites us farmers and is not organized by or related to a given agricultural lobby group,” the Bavarian said. “We appear as one unified group, and that will hopefully help us exert more pressure on the government to rethink its current policy.”

Just as we warned would happen, the tech giants are now moving aggressively to ban all speech that contradicts whatever “official” position is decided to be “the truth” by the corrupt establishment. This week, Facebook announced it would block all content on Facebook that questions the official dogma on vaccines, which falsely insists that vaccines have never harmed anyone (a hilarious lie), that vaccines contain only safe ingredients (a blatant deception) and that vaccines always work on everyone (another laughable lie).
Facebook is achieving this by labeling vaccine awareness information “misinformation” or “hoaxes.” At the top of the list is the assertion that vaccines are linked to autism — something that even the CDC’s own top whistleblower scientist reveals to be true, yet the vaccine industry claims it’s all a hoax (in order to cover of the crimes of medical violence against children that are being committed by the vaccine pushers).
Notably, tech giants are now banning vaccine truth information by labeling it “misinformation” in exactly the same way they ban conservative content by labeling it “hate speech.” They simply invent a false category to justify the ban, all while crushing the free speech of users (and ultimately leading to the vaccine maiming of millions of innocent children). Under this twisted system of speech policing, they can ban any content they don’t like by simply labeling it “false” or “hateful,” even if it’s true and important.

The censorship trick: Limiting content to “authoritative information”
“Monika Bickert, Facebook’s vice president for global policy management, said the social media network would reduce the distribution of false data and provide users with authoritative information about vaccinations,” reports AFP, via Breitbart.
Of course, “authoritative information” means whatever propaganda the vaccine deep state is pushing at the moment. The vaccine industry is steeped in conflicts of interest and a long history of suppressing scientists and whistleblowers who attempt to warn the public about the toxic effects of vaccine ingredients such as Thimerosal (containing mercury), aluminum adjuvants, MSG, formaldehyde and other neurotoxins that are openly admitted by the CDC to be ingredients used in vaccines administered to children.
Just recently, the Association of American Physicians and Surgeons denounced mandatory vaccines, citing “no rigorous safety studies” and warning about vaccine industry corruption of science. Their statement includes the following:

That’s the actual “authoritative” FDA position, so by the same logic that Facebook has applied to the vaccine debate, they could simply ban all posts about vitamin D, vitamin D, resveratrol, astaxanthin or any other supplement.
Imagine being banned from Facebook for saying that vitamin C boosts your immune function. That’s exactly what’s coming.
Even worse, Facebook could declare that “authoritative sources” have concluded President Trump colluded with the Russians. Any human opinion that contradicted that “authoritative source” would be banned on Facebook.
The problem with Facebook relying on so-called “authoritative sources” for censorship is that such sources almost always represent the corrupt globalist, pro-pharma, pro-establishment point of view that’s steeped in fraud, deception and falsehoods. Just as we warned would happen, the tech giants are now moving aggressively to ban all speech that contradicts whatever “official” position is decided to be “the truth” by the corrupt establishment. This week, Facebook announced it would block all content on Facebook that questions the official dogma on vaccines, which falsely insists that vaccines have never harmed anyone (a hilarious lie), that vaccines contain only safe ingredients (a blatant deception) and that vaccines always work on everyone (another laughable lie).
Facebook is achieving this by labeling vaccine awareness information “misinformation” or “hoaxes.” At the top of the list is the assertion that vaccines are linked to autism — something that even the CDC’s own top whistleblower scientist reveals to be true, yet the vaccine industry claims it’s all a hoax (in order to cover of the crimes of medical violence against children that are being committed by the vaccine pushers).
Notably, tech giants are now banning vaccine truth information by labeling it “misinformation” in exactly the same way they ban conservative content by labeling it “hate speech.” They simply invent a false category to justify the ban, all while crushing the free speech of users (and ultimately leading to the vaccine maiming of millions of innocent children). Under this twisted system of speech policing, they can ban any content they don’t like by simply labeling it “false” or “hateful,” even if it’s true and important.

The censorship trick: Limiting content to “authoritative information”
“Monika Bickert, Facebook’s vice president for global policy management, said the social media network would reduce the distribution of false data and provide users with authoritative information about vaccinations,” reports AFP, via Breitbart.
Of course, “authoritative information” means whatever propaganda the vaccine deep state is pushing at the moment. The vaccine industry is steeped in conflicts of interest and a long history of suppressing scientists and whistleblowers who attempt to warn the public about the toxic effects of vaccine ingredients such as Thimerosal (containing mercury), aluminum adjuvants, MSG, formaldehyde and other neurotoxins that are openly admitted by the CDC to be ingredients used in vaccines administered to children.
Just recently, the Association of American Physicians and Surgeons denounced mandatory vaccines, citing “no rigorous safety studies” and warning about vaccine industry corruption of science. Their statement includes the following:
- Manufacturers are virtually immune from product liability, so the incentive to develop safer products is much diminished. Manufacturers may even refuse to make available a product believed to be safer, such as monovalent measles vaccine in preference to MMR (measles-mumps-rubella). Consumer refusal is the only incentive to do better.
- There are enormous conflicts of interest involving lucrative relationships with vaccine purveyors.
- Research into possible vaccine adverse effects is being quashed, as is dissent by professionals.
- Vaccines are neither 100% safe nor 100% effective. Nor are they the only available means to control the spread of disease.

Forgive me if I am not prepared to sacrifice the right to speak freely to the sensibilities of the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) and to comedian Sacha Baran Cohen. But I repeat what I’ve said any number of times: There is no mob quite so terrifying as a self-righteous mob.
Cohen appeared last week at an ADL convention in New York to do what he claims never to have done before – show his true colors. The low-brow comic transfixed the crowd of attendees by telling them exactly what they wanted to hear: Hate speech is bad. Social media is to blame as it panders to our basest instincts. People of goodwill – a.k.a. “us” – need to place limits on what “they” can say.
I’m one of “them,” Sasha. So here’s a heartfelt “f@#k off.”
Cohen doesn’t like Facebook or Mark Zuckerberg. That’s fine. There are plenty of reasons not to like Zuckerberg. The fact that he won’t censor political advertising to suit the ADL is not one on those reasons.
Facebook gets immunity from suit for whatever it publishes, a privilege the press doesn’t enjoy. Facebook harvests data from users to sell to advertisers in a manner that is unaccountable. It pours its profits into the creation of proprietary algorithms that manipulate users, dividing people into silos it can target market at will. To add insult to injury, Facebook then decides on its own what content it will banish.

Facebook’s power to shape desire, predict behavior and keep tabs of us is chilling.
This week, the BBC reported that China houses Uighur Moslems in indoctrination camps. You earn your way out of the camp by persuading your re-educators that you are reformed, that is, that you have learned Mandarin Chinese, lost your faith, and satisfied censors that you know how to behave. This is but an extreme version of what the Chinese are doing to their own people by means of social media – creating citizenship scores for its population. If you don’t satisfy the state-sponsored algorithm that your attitude is what the Chinese government want, you get less in terms of social services and access to goods.
Facebook is habituating us to accept the level of social control China takes for granted. That is what is terrifying about Facebook.
What is terrifying about Cohen and the ADL is that they are happy with this form of social control so long as they get to set the agenda.
Here, in condensed form, is Cohen’s argument:
1. People are free (sort of) to say hateful things on Facebook.
2. People like us – Cohen and the ADL – don’t like those hateful things said.
3. Therefore, we ought to be given the means to place limits on what can be said on Facebook.
Put bluntly – Cohen wants to be a censor. So does the ADL.
A better argument is to require that Facebook and other social media companies enjoying immunity from suit for what they publish be held to first amendment standards in deciding what they can and cannot publish. There is a body of first amendment law, principles that can be decided by jurists and that provide litigants with fair notice of what is and is not permitted. The first amendment is transparent in a way a stand-up comic and his cronies are not.
These are dangerous times from freedom of speech. The danger isn’t hate speech, whatever that is. We’ve always had vituperative speech in the United States. Hell, if someone were tarred and feathered or burned in effigy today, we’d probably declare a national emergency.
The danger is that social media creates an enormous capacity for social control. Zuckerberg misuses that ability now. Giving Cohen and the ADL the same power won’t make the world safe for freedom of expression, it will merely exchange one set of blinders for another.
I’m guessing the overlords in China watched the Cohen speech with approval. “He gets it,” they muttered. I wonder if his next gig will be in Beijing.

The American Society of Civil Engineers recently gave the U.S. infrastructure an overall grade of D+, the same score it received in 2013. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has developed solutions for our toughest challenges and can execute those solutions quickly and cost-efficiently using our military and the private sector.
Only Congress Can Vote For War
The last time Congress passed joint resolutions saying that a “state of war” existed was 1942. Since then, the US has used the term “authorization to use military force”, as it did against Iraq in 2003. The post-9/11 Authorization for the Use of Military Force (AUMF) against al-Qaeda offered American presidents broad war-making powers. Both democrats and republicans agree the AUMF is constitutionally absurd. It’s time to give Congress control again.

We the People tell Congress what we want regarding going to war, supporting conflicts and even the size of the defense. This is the first stage of direct democracy. Corporate lobbyists dictate policy to U.S. law makers and federal agencies with billions of dollars annually in “campaign contributions” and other perks. Evolving blockchain technology can provide a solid platform for online voting by We the People to facilitate direct democracy.

Despite this obvious goal, because many of OPCW staff are professionals and as clearly seen through the actions of whistleblowers coming forward – are principled – the OPCW resorted to very subtle methods to skew the outcomes of its reports and word its conclusions in such a way that media spin could fill in gaps and ambiguity the OPCW itself did not want to directly and overtly lie about.
Despite information within their own reports either indisputably disproving claims of Syria’s government using chemical weapons, or admissions that no fact-based claims could even be made with investigators often never even visiting sites where alleged attacks took place, the OPCW would release several politically-motivated conclusions that fed directly into US war propaganda at the time.
The alleged 2018 Douma chemical attack was perhaps the most pertinent example of this, with details of the alleged attack sparse and unconvincing and with the final OPCW report even including a picture taken at a militant weapon’s factory where a cylinder similar to those allegedly used in the attack was found among ordnance being prepared for use.
The report also included photographs of the alleged holes made on rooftops from what were claimed to be chemical munitions – but noted that adjacent buildings had similar craters and holes that clearly were not the result of chemical munitions. In other words, evidence suggests the canisters were likely placed into position, taking advantage of holes and craters created by conventional weapons.
Despite evidence suggesting the attack was staged, the OPCW chose to suppress or downplay evidence and use ambiguous language to allow Western media sources to spin the report and “confirm” that not only an attack take place, but that the Syrian government was allegedly behind it.
Only upon reading the actual OPCW report would anyone know just how flimsy accusations against the Syrian government were and that despite Western media headlines accusing the Syrian government, evidence within the report pointed the finger instead at US-backed militants operating in the area at the time.
WMDs 2.0
Having engineered a proxy conflict in Syria in 2011 that would later stall, the US sought to replicate its “successes” in Libya and neighboring Iraq by searching for a justification for direct military intervention. The US used the pretext of fighting militants it itself had armed and unleashed across Syria including the so-called Islamic State (ISIS) to stage military forces within Syrian territory.
From there, it repeatedly cited alleged chemical attacks in an effort to build international consensus for military intervention against Damascus.
However, it appears that the world was aware that the US was – in essence – repeating nearly identical lies it used regarding Iraq – literally the next nation over from Syria – centered around “weapons of mass destruction” (WMDs) for the purpose of intervening in and destroying yet another Middle Eastern nation.
Between growing global distrust and Russia’s own military intervention in Syria in 2015 – US military aggression was checked. The growing global alternative media – both state-sponsored and independent networks and organizations – helped confront this WMD 2.0 narrative.
Today – the momentum has continued – bringing the OPCW back into the spotlight through the Courage Foundation’s recent panel in order to finally expose and perhaps even hold accountable those within the OPCW who attempted to use the organization to facilitate war propaganda rather than fulfil its mandate. The panel and the alternative media promoting it is also a celebration of those within the OPCW with the courage to speak out against impropriety.
With the Syrian conflict drawing to a close in favor of Damascus and its allies – and with the US and its axis of collaborators exposed as having organized the premeditated attempted destruction of a nation and its people – a panel exposing OPCW impropriety and how it fit into Western war propaganda might seem irrelevant.
But fully exposing what was done in Syria regardless of whether or not the war is over and no matter how favorably it ended for Damascus and the Syrian people – is absolutely essential in preventing similar impropriety from being used against the next nation that finds itself in Washington’s sights.

WIKILEAKS – OPCW management accused of doctoring Syrian chemical weapons report

Whistleblowers have come forward revealing what many had known all along – that the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) had deliberately altered various reports and suppressed evidence regarding alleged chemical weapon attacks in Syria to help bolster US war propaganda.
The Courage Foundation – comprised of various whistleblowers and investigative journalists – in a statement titled, “Panel Criticizes ‘Unacceptable Practices’ in the OPCW’s investigation of the Alleged Chemical Attack in Douma, Syria on April 7th 2018,” would conclude (emphasis added):
Based on the whistleblower’s extensive presentation, including internal emails, text exchanges and suppressed draft reports, we are unanimous in expressing our alarm over unacceptable practices in the investigation of the alleged chemical attack in Douma, near the Syrian capital of Damascus on 7 April 2018. We became convinced by the testimony that key information about chemical analyses, toxicology consultations, ballistics studies, and witness testimonies was suppressed, ostensibly to favor a preordained conclusion.
The panel called on the OPCW to revisit its investigation of the alleged 2018 Douma attack, stating:
This would help to restore the credibility of the OPCW and work towards demonstrating its legally mandated commitment to transparency, impartiality and independence. It is of utmost importance to restore trust in the verification procedures relied upon to implement the prohibitions of the CWC [Chemical Weapons Convention].
The panel included a member of the OPCW itself – José Bustani – who in fact served as the first Director General of the OPCW. He would conclude:
“The convincing evidence of irregular behaviour in the OPCW investigation of the alleged Douma chemical attack confirms doubts and suspicions I already had. I could make no sense of what I was reading in the international press. Even official reports of investigations seemed incoherent at best. The picture is certainly clearer now, although very disturbing.”
