The US spends FAR more per capita than literally ANYBODY ELSE.
Countries have been implementing universal coverage since the early 1900s and guess what - Not a SINGLE COUNTRY has changed course on it. The citizens love it. It's not even an option for an politician to argue against universal coverage because it's political suicide.
