Back from Olland again. Soft blonde piece of hashish below is as usual amateurishly snapshotted in the autumn sun(softens up with a bit of hand warmth though).
In retrospect even best version of traditional gear from the Moroccan Mountains this trip. While it came from a coffeeshop well connected to this area and a certain farm since ages it still was 4 € more expensive than usual and also wasn't at all on par with quality before damn Covid19.
Unexpectedly strong enough but of course not mind blowing or shit but noticeable. While still what I'd consider a high grade but apart from a bit of spicyness as well as sweetness not deep in taste so more of a commercial one then(respectively a certain harvest). At home again welcome any time but not with a choice. First world problems again, innit?
Picked up some other version, also realtively strong in effect by the way, but this was only second best and only had a somewhat bit of sweet taste.
Both traditional by the way were named after a current hype and in an oldschoolish way.
Also despite knowing better got three foreign genetic ones supposedly coming from Morocco. Two of them were of that type doing their rounds all across the country and beyond as it is quite handled as dark and sticky resin very similar to what member Goingrey
posted here[which I saw first hand but didn't try in September in 'Dam at Siberie] .
As reported before these what ever filtered ones are becoming a sorta new standard when it comes to foreign genetics since months.
Gear I picked up this time is such stuff and looking what others and myself would have raved about 10-15 years, probably a lot longer, ago. In this case this occassion they proved to be strong and all that but were very, very one dimensionally tastewise respectively had no taste at all.
There are exceptions of course[always too a mater of quantity of stuff available regarding prices of course] but the three I picked up were that type of quality similarly priced yet cheaper than the one from Siberie ; a shop respectively chain quite directed at locals
and one of the best for price-performance-ratio in my humble opinion – though while often visited it has been years I found something there ]. As poster Semi-Dry on here posted some time ago[ not refering to cut gear here]the sticky ones cost less in general and I can confirm that.
One of the three samples I tried was solid though, slightly more expensive but still lacking taste unfortunately.
The best from the so called filtered range I had in recent years were not sorta 'wet' when fluffing up but to some degree 'wet'/'sticky' when fluffing up for consumption while one's fingers were glued together ; this may not new but it is quite distinctive when one saw a range of those qualities before. Quite different to the more sticky ones[had really good stuff of course too but indeed not so often]where they leave one's hand often with oilish residue.
Roughly said here and I know the consistency is sometimes too a genetic factor. Just my two cents, no offence intended.
@Bibi40
Cheers for feedback[Tbizla / De Kuil / Your picked up gear at home ] !Definitely know my way around the Netherlands not only related to gear though[did anyone again say holidays?] not been to Roosendaal, Bergen op zoom or Terneuzen. Latter one I mention as on one hand it is nearby those towns and on the other I still recall crazy reports about coffeeshop Checkpoint
which was overrun by mostly Flemish people, Walloons and Frenchies.
I recalled 2 000 visitors a day but linked article reports about more than that ; owner(s)must have made a hell of a lot of money, let alone talking about logistics, I'm good thanks, lol.
At those numbers it's hard to imagine there was mostly quality to be had even though a different age back then. Still a reason I avoid border areas mostly.
However, I heard good things about coffeeshop Azul in Roosendaal. Bummer mayors there and in Bergen op zoom closed down all shops ages ago due to masses of drug tourists and their political incompetence handling such issues in a different way.
Your trip to Amsterdam: funny you went to Abraxas where I haven't been ages as well. Looks like Original Dampkring delivered to your liking. Bummer you haven't tried their Tbizla though there is always next time, isn't it[apart from that you can't have it all]?
Kadinsky: have to advocate for this chain as before Covid19 their quality was way better than now. Another shop among others going downhill hashwise during the pandemic until this very day.
At one point should recover though. Before that they had interesting offers every now and then.
Saying that their Transhimalayan was always low to mid-grade resin from that area – so they managed to uphold this quality at least! Being positive and all that, haha.
So no surprise they can't compete with the Moroccan traditonal you picked up at home though it is a bummer even their King Hassan still lacks quality due to the still to some degree as reported before ongoing crisis as this once was good.
Looks like you were on the hunt for traditionals so no foreign genetics and stuff – that would have been interesting either to see how the mids all over the place there would have compared to the other two slabs you got at home but as said I think they are pretty similar. Not complaining here!
Thanks again for taking the time comparing what you bought.
Agadir: Never been to Morocco yet but apart from the Rif, especially among the Arabic community there, I was told by the Morocs around here[as elsewhere plenty of times]that it is by far not impossible to get hold of hashish but quality can be so-so too often.
Personally only know and have mostly met Berber people[though definitely not saying they're all into it]here and they told me out of their circles it is indeed more difficult in Morocco, what ever that means. Your mentioned sodas I tried respectively got recommended from Moroccan supermarkets around here and some coffeeshops under Moroccan management carry them as well.
Personally not into sodas in general apart from childhood so I'm neither 'team Hawai nor team Poms' but team nana as definitely have a soft spot for fresh Moroccan style mint tea
which I brew every now and then at home[proud to say I got the honest seal of approval by the Morocs and others from Maghreb around here when I served that ; of course it is not rocket science but a nice tradition everyone should try as not an ordinary mint tea[no offence intended]]but couldn't drink that every day due to tons of sugar included[less sugar is no compromise but a crime in my humble opinion. especially if only consumed every now and then] as they often traditionally do.
By the way I like your term of 'basic high grade' which is similar to when I talk about 'commercial high grade'.
Just for fun: the shown Moroc above is indeed commercial high grade but I could also put it this way: it is 6-7 out of 10 of what is possible in general and I'd reckon I have seen all except for a '10' which is only an ideal anyways and that doesn't bothers me[hope I never find one] at all if you get my drift.
Anyway, again hope you had a great holiday there though I take it you had as you have been before and wouldn't return otherwise.
Cheers for the bonus pictures from your holiday then! As you said quality and price could have been better but I take it there it is just a bonus for you as well as you focus on other things while enjoying your holiday.
Let alone you can always go back to your own hard work and dedication ; you're already living your personal autonomous dream[ though I know variation is the spice of life] , kudos to you then!
Again, thanks for your contribution!
@A lil spanish
Welcome to the show! Your posted 73u looks very tempting, cheers! I do get your point about only looking for the best of the best but this alone is offensive to the masjority of consumers. Who cares, huh? Though everyone is entitled to the quality one suits best, right? Each to their own again. Just be honest, anyone? In the end you can't be everybody's darling!
Keep it coming. You are right mis compañeros de España et mes amis de France[e Portugal], especially in the south there pay a lot less than the rest of Europe as it is easier to get in touch with certain links for obvious reasons as mentioned in this thread before and what I heard personally. Though again it is all about connections, no matter which country but it is indeed a tad easier there.
You mentioned a static version of traditional Moroc which indeed must be interesting as I only had so called standard single yet tripple filtered ones yet as reported and which I rated. Hope it at least appears on Dutch ground someday as well.
@Brightful
Welcome as well! Egyptian hashish? Some Egyptian people I met told me most of the gear there though comes from Morocco but I'm sure they have local varieties. You said it came via Israel, right? So you are located in the Middle East then[don't care the slightest where, just roughly]? Congratulations you scored that, enjoy!
Personally I've seen Moroccan gear looking like that but that was a long time ago and more of a lower grade. You described it well, thanks.
About bubbling: does it have an initial short bubble when a lighter is exposed? Personally I always watch the flame approaching a piece as the better ones start to bubble without holding a flame right next to it. Also there is a difference to me between a tiny piece tested or a bigger piece respectively slab. Latter one can mislead in my humble opinion.
Fingers crossed your source returns soon – with even better grade of course!
@Sandsmp81
Yes, you mentioned your time in Amsterdam before. 'Rifman' seemed to be the blueprint for later marketing of 'recent' gangs in the Rif.
Your memory is more or less correct as this section is still active until this day. Though the dtrastic decline in offers as you described didn't happen until very recent years not in 2010. Am I anal again or what?
Definitely inspired me to do a bit of an online research and – while I still don't care about menus – found a menu from March, 2013 of Original Dampkring funnily delivering two offers for ice-o-lator from Morocco if you look at the Rifman section for exorbitant prices which confirms my thoughts I had here[while as regularly going as today I haven't encountered those two options and can't remember anything which is strange as such madness would have sticked to my mind ; this must have been a bit of a short lived experiment there]
regarding upcoming price development as one can figure out that fresh frozen material I indeed got the other day was absurdly priced as well as reported.
So only more than ten years to go until prices will have setttled, nice!
By the way during recherché I noticed Tweede Kamer as said still offers this brand and Original Dampkring crossed off the whole section while their variation of silly names still exist just not with a Rifman tag to it ; could be they just preserved those names, e.g. 'Sensabille'
for old time's sake and to attract customers without the same gang involved or indeed it is the same producer – who knows
again in this unregulated and seedy game? Also was reminded that I had some unnamed ice-o-lator respectively 'Tbizla ice' at Tweede Kamer during those times but was indeed ice-o-lator as bloody boring in taste to say the least so they really
stepped up their game and again only took 10 years, .
Filtered hash&added terps: No, I was not refering to that Amsterdam shop but within the provinces when I mentioned this really crazy quality batch[certainly tastewise] from about 3-4 months ago. Though I agree again with you that some of those gangs operating on farms there produce some amazing material.
Have heard of that gang you mentioned but not sure I came across their quality at a coffeeshop. Probably not consciously.
Beldia: Not sure if it is Arabic or Tamazight respectively other Berber language but I was told it is roughly translated to 'from the country'.
@Speula
Welcome back as well! You are killing it when thinking about variation! Too haven't come across this producer yet consciously though read the name. Those 25 gram thingies are handy indeed and heard of them as well – indeed they would be useful for my freezer as it is always hungry!
I take it you also had the fresh frozen stuff and all that as well yet? What sifting approach you prefer? You don't care about the traditional Moroc even if it is the proper mouth numbing stuff tastewise? Any news in regards to cutting techniques with artificial flavours or other shit and how to spot it? Cheers in advance.
