most dispensaries got greedy and charged the most to people that really needed a break. not inflated prices. good riddance to yall

I think some of you cats are getting a little too hung up on the white-coat/sterile thing.

No reason why the environment can't be slightly more aesthetic to those you wish to win over, while keeping the vibe...good business sense, vision and the willingness to see past your own nose will change the game.

The issue is slightly larger than what may appeal to the Bay Area...lol

Yep, I know a number of people who are hanging onto their houses by the skin of their teeth because of mmj money. In this economy it has been a godsend for many. In my mind, it is similar to poaching. If your kids are hungry, you do whatever you need to do and nobody with a nickel's worth of sense begrudges a couple of deer in your freezer. However, if you have options available to you and you are "harvesting" any and all animals with fur, fins, or feathers, than woe be upon you. Unfortunately, I think we have been trending towards the latter for quite some time, and people will inevitably react when they get their collective noses rubbed in their good intentions time after time.

I've thought for a long time that the recreational/medical usages need to be well separated. Disco Biscuit had a thought-provoking post today wherein he said that he thought that the Fed's had a legally defensible point in going after California mmj on the interstate commerce clause because medicine has always been considered to fall under that ruling. His point was that recreational wasn't subject to that ruling, and thought that might be the future of Fed-proof legalization in California. *edit* Whoops, it was dagnabit that made the post on interstate commerce. Sorry Dag!

So if you grow a few plants you are an OK poacher only stealing a few animals from the land, but if you try to help and OverGrow the planet then you are a greedy evil poacher who is stealing vast quantities from his neighbors?

I am sure you don't mean that but that is where your argument leads. To my way of thinking every single plant growing anywhere in the world is an amazing gift to many. I'd love to see 1000x more plants growing all around the globe.

Before any Supreme Court challenge will matter we need to have thousands and thousands of growers help create supply in any way possible. There is nothing to be gained by going back into the closet.

Hydro, as usual your "logic" leaps from the sublime to the ridiculous. If you think that having anyone and everyone growing plants everywhere they can fit is the answer, you need to get out more. In many communities in NorCal that is exactly what has been going on, and it is pissing people off to the point that mmj in California is endangered. Makes a nice sound byte, though.

after 18pages and alot of great augments i would like to throw my two cents in .

I would like to say I totally agree with rives on things should be separate medical or legal .
medical = being a controlled substance like pharmaceuticals !
Dr. writes scrip , pharmacist fills script !
legal = Shops popping up like liquor stores or starbucks were all you need is the right ID to get in!

So I will also have to agree with lil wayne that med Clubs or whatever you are calling them, are being set up more like a liquor store than a pharmacy . Catering to a demographic and certain users and clientele or like a bar where you can hang out and chill relax and cut up with the staff and other people .

I am for both personally !!!

But if you are going to be medical then you need to tow the line and be medically professional in the eyes of all states and countries not just yours !

Many of the non med states and countries are watching to see how your state is doing it. We are seeing liquor stores and bars not medical at all . This in-turn hurts our chances to become a med state and also hurts legalizing medical cannabis for all of us !

legalizing it to me would mean a controlled market like alcohol . There will always be a need for boutique smoke just like fine wine !

So what do you want Medical or Legal? which fight first? because they are very different in other peoples eyes .

So if you are growing on your own land and it pisses your neighbor off, then you should not be free to grow?

My logic may seem ridiculous to you because I promote freedom and you preach submission to others.

You speak of other's feelings and how they are superior to the peaceful activity of the individual.

I do happen to think OverGrowing is the answer and growers are my friends not poachers. You can't poach on your own land, because to poach implies a theft or violation of the rights of others. Raising animals or crops on your own land is not poaching it is agriculture.

truthfully, out of all of the dispensary photos, and videos I have ever seen, not one of them would be the "ideal" dispensary that comes to my mind when I think of "medical" grade marijuana...

I see tie-dyed & bobmarley tapestries, peace signs, hear reggae music blasting, and see hip young youth with their red&blue died mohawks working behind the counters distributing the meds in the backgrounds in most of these dispensaries... COME ON NOW, that is NOT making the whole dispensary scene look good.

When I think dispensary, I think medical. When I think medical, I think "cleanliness" and "purity..." You would think that all of these dispensaries would try to uphold somewhat of a professional image- one that is both clean and pure. A pharmacy is basically what a dispensary can be compared to, since they both sell meds to the public... with that being said, these dispensaries should look like a pharmacy.

You can't tell me that these guys who run these dispensaries don't have the extra cash to spruce up the appearance of the pharmacies and make them more professional with the added touch of some nice furniture, cabinetry, wallpaper, lighting, and overall "professional" interior design...

with that being said, I'd like to make my post a little bit more along the lines of the OP's statement ...

These guys who run the dispensaries should really pay attention to what they are buying in bulk from growers. I am not sure if they have any practices under way where they test for mold, bugs, ripeness, or any unnatural pesticides or chemicals sprayed on, or within the marijuana- but if there is not anything in place, there really should be. I am pretty sure that in canada, they have to have all of their cannabis tested.

selling schwag brick weed to the public and trying to pass it off as medical grade is bologna

I am quite naive when it comes to alot of what the whole medical marijuana industry TRULY is about as I am in a non-med state with draconian laws, and rely on alot of my information from word of mouth (or fingers), but it all does seem quite obvious. I am not the brightest guy out there, and I am not truly THERE, so imagine what a truly bright, "mmj newcomer" man/woman looking into this whole medical marijuana scene here in the states would say?

I just think the owners need to start tightening up their ships if they TRULY want to convince the country that it is not a joke....

mrs. babba, this is the old dispensary you used to work at, and this is also your photo, if you do not appreciate me using them, i will gladly take them down for you, but I have talked to you about my opinion on the appearance of this place and you know how I feel it needs to be designed a little bit nicer and more professionally... I understand that it takes money to make things look professional, but truthfully, if you are going to start up a business, you should have the money to pay for a professional medical look...

P.S. if someone has pictures of a truly professional dispensary, please share!

I am from Van BC where we are supposed to have some of the best bud in the world lol.. Really they could have fooled me lol.. Although I really like the people at the dispensaries the bud is weak but the people at the depensaries do not grow the bud they buy it pretty damn cheap and sell it high from growers around town. The growers are the ones you need to talk to. Some are really good some really suck. The reason the growers don't care is because they feel they are putting their ass on the line and they are, So they do cheap grows in and out as fast as they can with weak, fast strains. They did have some good growers but they were threatened by the DEA from the USA so they all pulled out. So it's not that people don't want to help it's that they feel they are being pushed into a corner. So what they do is get a crop that will finish faster then other crops or lets say larger. Larger is not always better. The Gov has taken over the cannabis industry and all the great bud is gone or gone underground. Also the comment about Mrs Budda's shop... It's not what the shop looks like but the bud it contians and the prices it has.. Who gives two shits about the rest?? You guys would seriously crack up laughing if you seen the Vancouver clubs lol peace out Headband707

the rest are bit cheap looking (Considering prices of merchantise)
apart from the one that looks like a bakery (or something like that) (bobmarley pics)

I went through tons of strains in Cali.....like every week my girl's dad would get some!

I smoked with him a lot....then some 67 year-old who gets his shit from humboldt:

"skunk"....and "kush"

This is pretty much all he had and all that he was calling it. It was so fuckin bomb! The first time I smoked a j of it by myself......when I tried to describe it to my girlfriend...I was too baked to explain exactly how blazed I was!

I get what you are saying about life but getting fucked up is not Medical . I did not take antidepressants and high blood pressure meds to get fucked up . These are called medicine not spirits .

Recreational = medical That's the kind of thinking that is hurting the medical cannabis movement . This is why the majority of the voters are against it .

so figure it out is it medicine for the sick ? then treat it as such !
or just another spirit like alcohol or caffeine ? then legalize it !
there is no such thing as recreational medicine !!

you can't have your cake and eat it to !!

I dig the post :tiphat:
even though I both agree and disagree.I thought that a wonderful part of my treatment, and it is most definitely a treatment...I can be a nasty fuck without it, if you can believe it....the wonderful part is that it is so enjoyable to get right with myself...

It doesn't make me nauseated, kill my appetite, keep me awake a night...like so many of the other 'remedies' I've tried in my life.

I really get the gist of what you're saying, there does need to be a delineation...I just don't think the pleasure aspect of it should be held up as a negative. It is a fine line...I'm still formulating a foolproof argument though ;)

do dispensaries ever get robbed? Seems like someone could just walk in with a gun and a pillowcase and make the person behind the counter dump everything in a sack.

No, this is drawing the definition of "medical" so wide as to render it meaningless.

Otherwise, people who go to movies to unwind are using them "medically."

Otherwise, people who masturbate when stressed are doing so "medically."

Otherwise, people who read books to relax are reading "medically."

Otherwise, people who watch sporting events are doing so "medically."

It's also not the case that everyone getting high for recreation is doing so to lessen a stress -- one can do so simply for the enjoyment of being high without it meaning one is negating a particular stress. I still like getting high when I feel wholly contented with life -- it's an enjoyment in itself regardless of outside circumstance.

People do get "fucked up" for a reason -- because it's fun -- it's an enjoyment.
