If you truly can't quit then you are admitting that you are powerless over marijuana and that your life has become unmanageable without it, which is more or less the same thing as the first step in Alcoholics or Narcotics anonymous.

I am a medical marijuana user, man. I need my medicine. :woohoo:

Cannabis is great, makes a great medicine for different conditions. It's also nice to take a break from it once in a while. I had to travel recently out of state and it was just easier not to smoke versus arranging logistics to smoke. It's worth taking a break just to have dreams. Missed it the first two nights but after that no big deal.

Good points about being sober for a year. Once I can't smoke anymore, it's all good, better than jail for sure.

I remember sitting there as she told me my options and I was like "Fuck weed, I want my freedom".

So, more to the story than I've originally told you...

I was going off of no sleep for like two days straight, getting pissed at everyone and just trimming like a madman never asking for help..no sleep is not good for anyone. Late one night, few days after my bday, get all bent out of shape and pack up some stuff in my truck and leave all pissed off. I remember going way out into the country and organizing my jars of weed, smoking a bit, eating a bit and then realizing I don't have my license. So I go home to get it...shoulda just went to bed because I ended up driving while passing in and out of concsiusness...ended up passed out on the westbound road out of town...some dude found me and called the cops, they came, they pointed their weapons at me and they searched my ride and found 1.29 lbs. of primo outdoor homegrown...still don't think it was 1.29 lbs, but what the fuck ever at this point..I don't even remember the incident..just going to the hospital, the jail and then a psych ward for whatever reason. Got released on a pr bond like a week before Thanksgiving and have been going to court ever since. I mean, it's a legal weed state, so I lucked out there.

Anyways, I hope I answered some of your questions and thanks for all the positive vibes :)

For anyone saying they'd rather do the jail time then quit, consider this, if you do get locked up you're going to do a long stretch without your weed anyway. Sure you can sometime get stuff in jail but it's usually not all it's cracked up to be and you'll most likely pay out the ass for it, maybe even literally out the ass. No big deal though you just do your time and then it's over. Well yeah, if they don't release you early and put you on parole which is a stricter form of probation.

Even when you think it's all over it isn't. The fact that you did your time means shit in the real world. You will find your past coming back to haunt you even after decades of no further arrests. The bottomline, no matter how hard it might be, if you can avoid jail time grab onto that opportunity.

I've beaten a weed dui in CA. I'm a prop 215 patient and got pulled over for speeding had a couple zips and a couple clones on me...spent the morning in the drunk tank and was out by like 3pm(got arrested at like 10am). lawyer was priceless.

if you ever get taken in for a weed DUI, ALWAYS elect to give a URINE sample...your case will be thrown out immediately. DO NOT give them a blood sample no matter what! when I was booked I was given the option between the 2 and elected to give a urine sample- about 15 minutes later the deputy comes back into the room saying they don't have urine tests, at that point I just wanted to get the fuck out of there as soon as possible so I said screw it and gave blood...DO NOT make the same mistake I did, it's urine or nothing.

my pops has been serving an 8year sentence for ONE joint in Oklahoma. he's got a ton of priors though which had an impact on this sentence. growing up he would talk bout how he had some BS condition he called "octosleeptomia" lol basically he would want to fall asleep after being in the car for a while, he was drivng home from work and pulled off the road to rest his eyes and woke up to the cops...he had a joint in his shirt pocket...Oklahoma is pretty fucked.

Whadeezlrg, that is horrible your father had to spend so much time in jail. In jail for a weed charge is bullshit, unless it is a dui. And we all know you are better off with weed than alcohol, but in the eyes of the law we are impaired.

It has impacted how much driving I actually do. I try not to smoke now until I am safe at home and settled in. If after I have been smoking somebody needs anything I try not to do any driving. If you do have to drive, just be really careful. Maybe have something with a lot of sugar in it to help level you off. Don't ever fall asleep high or drunk, but if you do, take the keys out of the car and put them in a hiding place. Then, get out of the driver seat. If arrested you are Not in control of the car and you can say one of your friends was driving and you got into an argument. He left and you refused to drive until you were more awake or whatever. I have actually done this and the fact that they could not find the keys saved my life.

Great tip to insist on a urine test. It is not to say that the cops in every city will not have one handy. Is the absence of the test the thing that saved you or is there another reason for urine instead of blood?

well assuming you are a legal user (medically or recreationally). your urine will have thc in it for much longer than it will be present in your blood(typically only in the blood for 4-6hrs iirc), and since thc in your urine really only means that you've ingested thc sometime in the last 3-4 weeks...the presence of thc in your blood would indicate that you've ingested thc within the last 6hrs or so. basically your blood rats on you a whole lot more than your urine can.

by the time my blood was taken it had probably been around 6 hrs after I last smoked. I never saw any of the police reports or anything, just paid the lawyer, then a couple months later paid some fines.(for speeding, and lane hovering which is what my dui charge was reduced to)

I rarely ever smoke while driving anymore(I had finished a blunt in the car about 1hr prior to getting pulled over/arrested for dui), and even feel weird smoking in a vehicle that I'm not driving...but I have no problems taking a few dabs before I head out the door...my tolerance is pretty high though...so I'm hardly "fucked up" when I do get behind the wheel..

as for my pops, if it wasn't weed that got him locked up it would have been something else I'm sure...some folks just go to jail a lot.

Hell yeah whadeezlrg, congrats on beating the canna-dui!

I'm not sure if in WA they allow you to have the option between a urine or blood test, I'm really curious now. But I do know...

As far as WA goes...

NEVER do the field sobriety test. Refuse. You don't have to do it.

Don't admit to a goddamn thing, of course.

They have to get a warrant to get your blood, never volunteer. If they tell you that you are going to be taking a blood (and I would suspect same goes for urine, if that's indeed an option in WA state), ask them if they have a warrant.

From the bit of reading I've done, if you follow those rules, and have a half-competent lawyer, they can get the warrant tossed based on no probable cause. And being that cannabis is legal in WA, I don't believe that simply possessing under the 1oz limit (for rec user) and 24oz limit (for med user) is probably cause that you are actually impaired.

Here's a quick quote from a MMJ law expert that has lots of experience with canna-dui's, he's testified as an expert witness for multiple folks with a good degree of success:

They now have to have a warrant to take your blood....which is at least better. But they seem to be having no problem getting telephone warrants whenever they request them. The problem is that they will rarely have probable cause that will hold up in court....so you get the blood thrown out. If you didn't take a field sobriety test, and then the blood gets thrown out, they are left with their dick in their hands. But that's if you have a good lawyer! What they will always do is offer a plea bargain to reckless or negligent right off the bat. Most people take the plea rather than risking court.

This thread started off kind of lame, but with the DUI tips that are coming out, it is becoming a valuable thread. Someone should make a thread on ways to survive a DUI, because they can be devastating. Bring all the ideas to a thread will give it high visibility and now that weed is becoming legal we all need to keep ourselves safe from prosecution.

Quoted for truth... For some the more time u do, the more u get used to it..... N after a certain point being in jail becomes easier than being in the free world. I've got a few friends from back in the day who by the time they meet the reaper will have spent far more time in prison than out.
Btw I'm sorry for ur pops whadeez, that's a sad story bro. I hope when he gets free again that he stays free

That's easy, don't drive while under the influence, works every time. :)

I'm guessing this tip isn't necessarily counting on them not having the ability to do a piss test. I'm thinking the reason this falls under the category of "getting tossed out" is because marijuana can stay in your urine for a month or more so all it proves is that you got high at some point in the previous month or so. THC in the blood however has a lifespan of just a few hours I believe and therefore more likely to make the case you were in fact driving under the influence.

Hey bro, I don't know much about Colorado Law, but i know weed is legal there, and 1.3 pounds of wet weed will either be a molded soupy mess by now, or if the container is open, maybe 6-8 oz. ? Maybe.. Either way it is all in one container, and there is a grey area in enforcement.. Ant attorney worth the wait of their bar exam, will be able to stall this from the courts for at least a couple of years, by then the entire nation will be legal and it will be a mute issue- probably dismissed on face value! i understand your fear, I spent five years in a Wa. prison for intent to manufacture, no drugs on me- no past convictions- no witness to say I had ever been involved in drugs in any way! They used my college background in organic chemistry to convict me! Just a fluke traffic stop, at a sobriety check point, and I got popped! i had a camera bag with a roll of film in it, that had pictures of an outdoor patch - a big one, and seeds in my ashtray that were in roaches! Intent my ass ! Still - 1,967 days! They offered me six months home monitoring; i stuck to my story that i had just stumbled across them hiking in the forest.. didn't fly with the jury.. I lost everything! Now i would be completely legal in the same situation! i lost my home, the land i had in Wa. and over $100,k in assets that my girl friend of the time, stole when she and my most trusted friend took off together, with as much of my shit as they could carry!
That was 18 years ago, and I am just now getting back to the point where I was financially, and my total assets are over 5 times where they were then..
This is just a bump in the road; they will slap you with a fine and some probation maybe, and life will go on.. Lj.

I don't know if this tip is for me or the group, but I stated that I do not drive impaired. The consequences are devastating and not worth the risk. Especially if you are in an injury accident.

However, the limits for DUI in Washington state are so low they could get you as impaired when you haven't smoked in several days, or so I am told. I forget what the actual limits are, I just hear everyone say that they are ridiculously low.

Again, I almost only smoke and drink at home once I am settled in for the day. I am not a teenager that spends all of his time impaired.
