Hey everybody, I'm with you GanjaPharma..I had a long winded reply but got timed out..For me it's simple, I simply would grow to grow.. It's about our sacred plant and the joy and comfort I bring to my customers, friends and family..If along the way I can make some coin to cover my costs, so be it. The pursuit of profit has never been my goal nor my intention, for me, it's simply something I absolutely have a deep rooted passion for.. I'm about the preservation and cultivation of a truly remarkable plant with many benefits and uses for humanity.. All one needs to do is look to the US/MEX border to see that prohibition simply is not a viable solution. The more logical path would be to legalize,tax and move on to setting some basic behavioral standards as we have for so many of our other vices that we seem to enjoy as HUMANS..I see two issues already..Logic and Human greed...There's truly more to life than $$$$$$$$$$$$$$..The Oregon wine industry is feeling something very similar at this very moment. The economy has simply dried up a lot of that extra coin spent on what most find a luxury.To make matters worse as with Humboldt a lot of our local economy has become falsely dependent to such luxury revenue.,Tasting shops and eaterys spread throughout the wine regions are all hurting as is most of the country..These are tough times and everybody, well most everybody are just barely making it..The underground med weed market is super satuated from all the out of work contractors and who knows who trying to survive by growing a crop or two or three or four..Hell top notch ninety day JHerer and comporable stash strains are being given away at a 125 an oz. if you can find someone to buy it..That's 70's prices..Hell maybe were headed for the 35$ oz..Yeah I said oz..Now if I can just get all my other bills in line,I'd, be OK..Peace

All I have to say is that we are growing some Yumboldt which is supposedly some heady cut from Humboldt, and it is the PARALYZER or the ENERGIZER depending on who is smoking. Probably the most interesting and potent (either as downer or upper, weirdly enough) that I've ever smoked. Kudos to Humboldt!

Was anyone else at the meeting last night? I have seen several articles today that try to make it sound like all of the growers up here want to keep it illegal. That couldn't be farther from the truth. I am sure there are some but they are only looking at the small picture. There are so many more possibilities of making a living within a legal framework. There was a lawyer there last night that said to do a marketing campaign that would bring the kind of recognition that Humboldt has would cost hundreds of millions of dollars. That is our biggest asset. Our name brand and reputation. Not just for great herb but this area is also know for being on the forefront of the organic and self sustainable farming/agriculture movement. I have been all around this world and everywhere I have gone Humboldt is known. One of our county supervisors said last night "can you name a county in Delaware?" People here are just scared of change and the way things are going right now it has been scary. A lot of people are having a hard time paying their bills. I was fortunate to talk with a lot of local business owners last night and hear things from their points of view. Tourism and many high quality marijuana products are what will save Humboldt and feed our children in the future. Lets try to get a good discussion going about this. This is not just about Humboldt. It is about a lot of small communities around here that will depend on this as well.

There's already a precedent for after the fact tweaking of grow limit-- Look at the limits in the original 420 and then prop 215.
California will not thwart the will of the people-- if they do, it won't be for long, it'll be like sticking their finger in the dike. You know this: In CA it's relatively easy to get initiatives on the Ballot and then all they need to pass is a simple 51% majority. The vote on ballot initiatives in CA, like no other state I've lived in before, is decided in the advertising, lobbying and grassroots organizing campaigns before the November vote... The law, and modifying it, seems much more malleable in CA than anywhere else in the US, IMO.
We'll see a huge battle for hearts and minds develop before November-- all the MADD type lobbyists will be raging a full blown anti MJ ad campaign on every channel. And, they'll have national support from Washington. I wouldn't doubt if Brown speaks out against it as well.
But, my bet is that in the end CA will legalize. However, beyond initial passage-- whether it's this time or the next-- CA may go the route of Amsterdam after they (we) collectively wade through enough of the nonsense associated with legal soft drugs.
This is pure speculation on my part, of course. Anybody else care to look into their crystal ball?

Legalization may lower the prices temporarily but if it were legal, people would come from all over the world, and marijuana tourism would boom! Plus being legal would put some worries to rest... like prision time ha! I just hope they legalize it with unlimited quantities and not have a limit... and how can you put a limit on a dispensary?! they need to grow alot because of all of their customers

Yep, it's going to be an interesting 8 months till November. With Obama opposed, and probably the right wing joining forces with him, I don't see it happening. Look at what happened with health care reform. Before the debate is over, they'll twist and spin the issue to the point where you won't even recognize it. Remember, in politics, truth has little to do with the process.
If by some quirk of fate it does pass, I wonder if the feds will step back in and countermand the vote. California may have to succeed from the nation before they get it legalized.
Relax growers.
