That sounds awesome! I do yoga on my teacher's large shaded balcony and the campesino who lives between our two houses has goats; I'm not too sure how the teacher would feel about 40 goats marauding through her bedroom. 😂

Severals evenings of the week, Juan brings his goats onto our terrace below the house.

We don't have many cars on the roads and never have traffic jams. Goat jams are common though. 😀

So today I took water.

Our acequia is no longer running but for a few euros an hour we can have water from the Pozo (well).
Before my allotted time I have to walk to the pump house making sure that all the neighbours houses between my house and the pump house have their sluice gates shut, or else my precious water will be going to someone else's land.

"And here comes the water!" As Frank said. (Joe's garage, Wet tee shirt nite)

Around here I still have the ditches in the field, although they are full of plants, the water already comes through pipes from the well and I no longer have to ask for water... But I have very good memories of when all the orchards and orange fields were irrigated with the ditches and the kids we bathed in them...
You could even drink the water, not like now...
That everyone smokes critical and gelatos... 😄

Un abrazo primo

It's not unusual to find someone washing in some of the acequias and certainly in the higher mountains you can drink it, but by the time it gets to us, I wouldn't touch it!
Slowly they are replacing the ancient acequias with pipes and the old cortijos that grew most of their own food no longer get the amount of water that they did.
We were down at the coast at resort recently visiting our lsd taking, weed smoking, violin playing, 7 language speaking dentist, (He lets me sit behind his right shoulder, watching him work on Mrs DM and explains to me exactly what he's doing. And his prices are really good, especially for poor friends!) and I noticed all the lovely flowers and grass that was everywhere. The promenade looked lovely with all the delicate flowers and the ground was still wet from the sprinklers, but locals in other areas are struggling for drinking water!
Everywhere else is parched.
Sadly the situation isn't going to get any better. The Costas need the tourist money, but the farmers are being squeezed out.
We're lucky were we live, most of the produce that we eat is grown within 50km and we get real eggs, olive oil and honey from friends.
We do miss out on some of the trappings of a more sophisticated life but we much prefer our simpler life. The only noises that we normally hear from our house are real country sounds and the occasional car as it drives down our single track road. We call it a road and it is, but a lot of you would be horrified to drive your cars on it; not a lot tarmac in many places.
I've always been a country person; growing up in a very small country village in rural England. And here I am living among millionaires, hippies, farmers and peasants. The peasants are really decent people, as are the farmers, if your decent yourself. So many foreigners come over here and think they can lord it over people because they have money🙁.

To be honest I’m not sure where I wanna end up living in the world every place has its ups and downs I’m in Central new York it’s really conservative but there is certain freedoms for a dude like me the taxes are astronomical but we have a lot of water at our disposal

I find Blue green algae somewhat disconcerting. A number of bodies of water in flower powers general vicinity have blue green algae blooms. Now a regular event. Apparently won’t kill humans but affects other living beings.

Hombre del mont .. you have a wonderful area and I also enjoy seeing your posts. Me and the Mrs are looking into where to retire and we’ve tossed around the idea of Spain among other areas. I show her your posts which she likes.

Cousin Del Monte's ditches are different from yours, @el mani :
WATER CAPTURE, STORAGE AND REDISTRUBUTION SYSTEM THROUGH "CAREO" DITCHES:
The "careo" ("to shepherd the water") is the is the system by which the farmers 'entertain the water' in the summits of the Sierra Nevada. By means of a system of ditches, they guide the meltwater, when the heat begins, around March-April, towards the chasms or caverns in the mountains, so that it gradually infiltrates the aquifers and reappears in the rivers and springs at two or three months or more, in the middle of summer, when it is most needed for irrigation. The Sierra Nevada irrigation ditches are the oldest in Europe More than 1,300 years ago, the countrymen of the Sierra Nevada of Granada began to collect meltwater with ditches and to conduct it towards the underground aquifers. An ingenious system to infiltrate water into the ground and get it to emerge in different places and slowly in the following months, especially during the summer:

I've seen that nasty blue green algae on uk lakes in the past.

Spain is a wonderful place to retire. The Spanish are really good honest hard working folks; well at least in las Alpujarras. And as we all know, our Spanish cousins on icmag are really good men.
I highly recommended las Alpujarras, providing you don't mind a more rustic way of life. The locals here are very accepting of outsiders who choose to live an alternative life.

And Southern Spain is synonymous is cannabis. What a lot of folks don't release is how much is actually grown here. Lots of the weed in the coffee shops of comes from around these parts.😉
I've personally sampled quite a bit, but whilst good, it's not really to my liking.

Sadly the place is getting drier and I wouldn't recommend it to younger folks; but if you want to retire to a place place of stunning unspoilt natural beauty and lots of open spaces without too many tourists, then it's certainly a good choice. It's a bit of a hidden gem, even among the Spanish. I wouldn't want to live anywhere near the Costa's though; a very different type of immigrant lives there; lots of hanging out in bars and heavy drinking. I'd sooner get stupidly high and wander abbot talking to the animals I meet.

We have a friend who's "from out on the island", she's been her for 20 yrs or so and is one of my Tai Chi students. Lots of quality psychedelics here too!. In fact tomorrow night we're off to an outside psychedelic trance party! (Can't wait!).

Indeed!
I've just this minute shouted out through the mosquito net at one of my neighbours loose dogs that's barking outside the open window. "Fuck of you stupid dog and get back home".
But in truth, I love the fact that at night his dogs also protect our house.

Nice to see you popping in brother @buzzmobile
You have a special way with dogs. LOL

You are speaking my animal language hombre del mont!! Any naked tai chi on the beach???? I used to know part of a very very rare form. The story was the Chinese monks were supposed to teach the communists/emperors soldiers but the they held back knowledge and only showed a soft style. This style is a fairly hard style and presumably they kept it for self preservation. It came to me by way of an extremely old monk in the early sixties to a then young person who showed it to me many many years later.
I also did a bit of yang style I think it was. What’s your style?
