I wish I was going to camp in the mountains!

Forgive me for not going back throuigh the thread to see, but are those plants above clones? If so, do you think seed growns plants might get taller above thae ground faster?

Late season minis...

Late season minis...

Yes sir, everything is clones, late season crop, and all else. I do feel seedlings would give me taller plants, an keep themselves away from the mud..Im gonna get in touch with a large female seed vendor, and see what kind of deal I can work out..Really wanna try some female seeds next year...
..............................................................................................
Things are looking good at the Late season plots....They shot up about 3hree inches in the last week!..they were ****in sick of being inside, once they got into some real soil, they started getting down!!

Ya have to be right on top of these to see em.

My friends personaly made cut,,,named burpleberry..

Swiss Miss...These things still haven't even spit any pistils yet,,Not even the SM mothers I have at the high maintenance plots..she is gonna be late as hell!...:(...

Getting some good mid day sun...

Ill be goin up to the large plots soon..Giving them some of the last bloom nutes they will ever see...

Have a good one family...

Looks super, FP! And having a good reason to spend so much time with Ma Nature- priceless. :)

I think this has to do more with my environment/climate than anything else, but since our locales are so similar... I started one batch of seeds about March 1, vegged indoors and went out about May 15... and I started a second batch of seeds June 1 and they went out about June 21.

I didn't visit either plot for about 4-5 weeks but when I finally got out there, the second batch of seeds had pretty much caught up to the first batch. That blew my mind.

And had me kicking myself in the ass when I thought of all the work I put into that first batch, starting them indoors, hardening them off, matching indoor/outdoor photoperiod, HAULING WATER TIL MY LEGS FELL OFF! LOL

This ^^^ happened with a wide variety of strains in the same soil mix, so it doesn't appear to be strain-dependent or nutrient-dependent. I think it has something to do with the cool evenings in May here at 6,000' elevation. Daytime temps are getting to 75 F in May but the cool PM temps might stunt the plants somehow.

I have a hunch that if you run from seed next year and you wait a tad later to start them, you'll be pleasantly surprised by the outcome.

Hi dig!..I agree, I may try a round of seeds next year..I was already thinkin bout ordering a bulk pack of fem beans,,,,maby some maroc or somethin..Your plants are doin great man!
....................................................................................................

I am having a hell of a time keeping the drippers from getting clogged..Gonna add a filter to the systems, and flush the lines heavily...

Things are looking good, and as of today, there is exactly one more month to go!!!!

Lets do a lil comparison..

Master kush, last week..

Same MK, this week...
..........

Chrystal, last week..

This week....

Chrystal bud development is keeping up with the sweet purple....This cut seems to be a keeper!!!, Glad I saved one to start a new mom off of..

..........................................................................

Couldnt get get any flicks of the large one..Started raining hard, shortly after these were taken..

All the hours spent pumping water alone in the woods, certainly gives a guy alotta time to think....

I noticed the same thing...Putting plants out early isnt as productive as I once thought...Yeah, the plants will not die if you put them out when the temps are low thirtys, but you can bet that they arent growin much. Thats kinda why I put all my clones out mid June this summer,...Last year, I put em out three weeks earlie than I did this summerr,... and my plants are bigger this year...

This is also why I dont leave my plants out after the first hard frost.....Yeah, They may live through 2-3 nights below freezing, but like I said before, ya can bet that they arent growing very much:confused:...

The early start is definitely an advantage in a place where the climate caters to it... but you and I being at altitude, the cold hits em in the evenings in early spring/late fall.

I knew they wouldn't grow as quickly in cool temps, but what I have started to think is that being exposed to cold temps actually stunts them so that even later, when conditions are primo, they are permanently stunted and won't get as big as they otherwise would.

What do you think about that, my high-elevation brother?

Hey Fast Pine...looking real good.Gotta love the stretch. My plants have really been cranking as of late too.Any pics of your mendecino madness cut?
Although elevation doesn't play a roll in my grows, I have plants started a month later than most that are just as big etc.In fact they are healthier because they haven't used all the nutes in the soil waiting to flower.Their rate of growth has been much more consistent??
I am real happy you are beginning to see the fruits of your labor...rock on BL

I wouldnt say permanently stunted, just set back..Ive noticed that they need a week or two to get back in the swing of things as soon as the temps get warmer.....Honestly, aside from cold temps, I believe genetics to be the corner stone in the ability to get a large plant..For example, most of my master kush plants that are 4x the size of my durga matta..They are in the same exact conditions, getting the same ammount of water and the MK will out yield the DM by far.....

My point is, If we could nail down a certain strain, or strains that perform well, things like a coupple weeks of cold temps shouldnt matter much. Seeing as how strain selection has had such a huge impact on plant size for me:confused:..Immagine if i planted a whole crop of DM, when the night time temps were good, and planted another crop of MK, when the nights were cold, I would bet that the MK would finnish much larger than the DM..

Thanks, FP. I tend to agree that genetics are by far the primary determinant of plant size and growth rate but...

This year I have 8 strains out, some full indica, some full sativa. Across the board, the plants I started from seed in March/put out April 15th are only about 10-20% larger than the plants I started from seed on June 1/put out June 30.

2 1/2 months' difference in age and yet only marginally larger. Very strange indeed.

In my experience seedlings get a better start in dry, rough, and harsh conditions than clones do.

In 2005 I used almost all clones, they were planted near home and watered heavy through their early life, and they ended up doing very well.
In 2006 I also planted all clones, but they were not visited as often early on, they just never seemed to take hold, and were stunted early on.

I chalk up the clone failures in 2006 to the fact that they never really got a chance to develope a nice root system, they just seemed to get stunted.
This year I decided to use seedlings because they seem to develope root systems faster, and without much need for care. My hunch seems to have merit.

I think seedlings have a edge for rough and ready Guerrilla growing.

Fast Pine...good mornin...I grew FMS Easy sativa last yr.The plants were all finished by
3rd wk Sept at the latest. The buds were very tastey, dense, with very good bag appeal.Great daytime weed.It won't knock you back on the couch..but definitely worth growing.I started some Maroc this yr but lost them to deer. With a dry climate like yours why not try the skunk special.I've read they're pretty dank. The ES's will definitely finish for you..Peace..BL

Fast Pine,
Been watching your grows the past two years. A tip of my hat to you. 30+ years ago I used to hang out in the Rincons, White Mountains, Mt Lemon, Green Valley. When you work at the altitude you, do you really got to be physically fit. Hell at 8000 ft you got to move slow until you get used to it. I really like allot of the ideals you have used, hope to borrow some of them for next year. Good Luck

Shit dude, That IS weird...My Swiss Miss is very sativa, an they are like seven feet tall right now..All my other strains(more indica dominant) are only 3-4feet tall:confused:..All started same time..

The SM wont get any where near finnishing naturally..She is gonna need most of October, I only have til Sept 25 max....Ill have the hippys cover them with frost blankets every night:confused:

Ouch there is not a lot of strains that could resist cold temp !
hope this stress give better cannabinoids in the plant :)
