i dunno drek. i've seen people throwing the 1000DE in a 5x5 tent and pulling good harvests.

it's all about distance from the bulb to the canopy with these puppies. if you can maintain the proper canopy and keep temps in check it should work fine.

that said, both the gavitas and the cycloptics seem to really shine when you put multiple lamps in one space. overlapping light patterns gives you the most efficient use of the light.

gavita says "light the room, not the plants."

oh yeah I have a long email chain with a gavita service rep where I asked a million questions and he sent me sample room plans and schematics so I could design my room properly. I went full nerd on this.

also the lights were like 60% of the build out expense so I wanted to get it right.

I love 600 W Gavitas. Absolutely the silver reflective surface (IMO) is crap. I'd use flat white but what do I know?

Nice ladies and all the pics/updates are great. Weather channel says we are going to have a warmer than usual august-october. Gonna be well into the 80s for the next week at least. One reason I love air cooled reflectors. In this state with them, very little AC is needed unless you start getting into large rooms, and even then minimal needed compared to open setup.

How much coverage are you getting from each light? I am very effectively using (2)600s in air cooled reflectors to cover 4x8 areas. I would want almost 6x6 from each Gavita, not sure if they spread it that much??

I had seen scrappy-doo's thread and it got me giving the CMH lights a hard look for sure. I found a place locally that has Double D-Paps for a good price but they only have 240v and I need 120v so that was a bummer. I have a 5 x 5 tent, what do you think would be the best way to situate them, side by side in the middle? Opposite corners?

It made me start looking for 3 x 6 tents, lol. Scrappy killed it with those lights and the big benefit to me being on such a small scale is the greater output for pretty much the same power draw. I would be moving form 600W HPS to 630W CMH.

kony, I had a feeling it would be a late hot summer this year. we'll just keep running with two lamps off as long as necessary. 2400w instead of 3600. saves some btu. loses some yield. maintains the temps.

next year we'll have the proper minisplit to keep us running at full brightness through the summer.

gavita recommends very specific spacing. for this room 10x10, they are two rows of three lamps each, oriented head to tail. iirc, the rows are spaced 6' on center and 2' from the walls. spacing down the opposite axis is 2' from the wall, and 3' between the bulbs.

that is supposed to provide an even distribution of light energy across the room and then the plants go wherever---not necessarily directly under the lamps (which is the general rule for canna culture afaik). they consider the walls important reflecting surfaces.

bmac yea maybe two of those would work best in a rectangle---possibly!

I've got a buddy that would love to run that set up.

I bet you'd clean up with that.

one thing is I've seen folks bleach plants with those things in tents, especially when moving tender fluoro grown plants over. apparently you might wanna treat the transition like hardening off winter veggie starts in the shade before you plant them in direct sun.

I think I saw that tip in that huge CMH thread.

Hell Yes Heady. Im thinking of doing something like this. Im so sick of all the bottles. Straight water with a good soil is easy pleasey...Thanks Bud Nice on the Chem BTW sounds like a real headbanger....

You know just a thought. I use food grade DE on all my coco I just dash it on the top of every transplant and I got nothing... not one bug. I used to get gnats and was always worried about anything else might arise and for years now I top dress with it. As a preventative. And it does get damp with all my waterings but still seems to work for me. Just something to maybe give a go and see what you think. I use AirPots as well and even on the sides with all the holes I still got nothing. I do reuse my coco so maybe its all around but I aint complaining.
I wear a mask when I apply just to be safe. Give a go a simple solution for a big problem.

I have a Coco DTW grow area. I need to start reusing my coco. How do you go about recycling yours?

HB, I think I'm going to purchase me a DE light set up this winter. I don't think I can handle the extra heat it makes during the summer. I have not been a fan of running A/C hoods. They are very big and bulky. Most certainly starting out as a bare bulb vert grower.

Well that's shitty. Well at least I heard it was cancelled before just showing up and finding out. Made a bubble wrap blunt. If you wanna have a session soon hit me up. It's just chilling in the freezer.

my buddy birm found this cut in a pack of sin city seeds. it's an acdc s1 basically. it's yummy!

we're trimming up a harlesin right now(another sin city cbd, harlequin x acdc (r)). first time growing this plant out from seed, so it hasn't been lab tested yet, but early tests i've conducted on myself are promising :smoke:
