I discussed our needs with Dave, whom has agreed to personally rebuild a unit on camera, so we can post a U-Tube.

Stay tuned while we set things up.

has any one nerded out on which is the best pressure regulator to put right before your haskel? We've got a 15HP w/ air dryer and were going to install a standard pressure regulator but I'm wondering if its better for the haskel if i get something higher end.

We're using a Numatics P32B-04G combination water trap, particulate filter, and regulator.

Nice one Gary,
I've actually taken it apart, cleaned and rebuilt it and i've got to say, it was a lot easier than i thought it was going to be. I have put it back into action and all is working well again.
i'd say anyone with a basic engineering understanding could tackle the job.
Still be nice to see it done by someone else.

OK, I have the pump ready for a rebuild and Joe and Dave are setting up a schedule. More as we progress.

Hi,

I'm having to dismantal my 59025 pump because of polluted air that came from the compressor. (i have now put air filters between the 2).

Any tips and tricks that i should know or could help me? I only have the manual that came with it as reference.

Also is there an alternative grease for the 28442 lubricant? one that i could find in a normal hardware store.

Cheers

I'm sorry I disappeared for so long. I looked here a while back and did see any recent traffic. Somehow my account must have zigged or something, because I didn't get an email that there was more activity.

sr_bho: The lube we recommend is manufactured by Novagard, it's their product Versilube G321. I'm sure you can find a local distributor if you check Novagard's website.

Just a follow up, I'm getting the parts together right now and doing a little practicing (I want to look smooth on the video). However, my schedule is really slammed right now, I have a feeling it's going to be towards the end of October before I be able to shoot the video.

I'll keep you advised!

I'm glad it went well for you. People are typically scared of the unit until they see it taken apart, then the almost universal response is "That's all there is to it?".

Thanks for the feedback!

Hee, hee, hee, well we did it! Mitch videoed Dave rebuilding a Haskel EXT-420 and we will put it on U-Tube as soon as it is edited and formatted.

Thank you Dave for the show and tell, and Joe for the space and support at HIS, to make it so.

Air Compressors seem to be a topic on here as much as pumps. I have spoken with Dave and am working with a lot of different extraction companies to provide Compressed air for their businesses.

I would be happy to post some information as to some of the top things to consider when looking at Air Compressors and how they relate to running pumps in extraction operations.

For example:
- The effects of Altitude, Temperature, and Humidity on ACFM vs. SCFM
- The differences between reciprocating and rotary compressors
- The effect on compressor placement in a facility (inside, outside, freezing, ventilation, etc)
- The different dryers available
- The different receivers (tanks) available
- Multiple Compressor operations and controls

I can do this without 'promoting' the brand I work for as this information would be engineering/application based and not brand name based.

Would this be beneficial to anyone?

Good idea! A good subject!

No doubt IR could also buy some ICM advertising space, or Free Gypsy credits, and post a sticky promoting their brand.

Yes perhaps start a dedicated thread here in the concentrates section.

Ok... so I have started a thread. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me with any questions!

Hi everyone! Sorry it's been a while since I have been here. I've met with a lot of people lately and have a few things I've seen that I want to pass on.

* While I've said that you need a compressor that can provide at least 25 CFM at 90 psi, you actually don't want to drive with 90 psi. Use the regulator and drop the pressure down to around 30 psi going into the pump, this will help to reduce the slamming of the pump as it cycles back and forth.

* You don't need to run the pump so fast. I've seen pumps running so fast I can't even count the cycles. Remember, the pump can only remove the vapor as fast as it boils off, running the pump faster won't speed up the vaporization of the liquid. As a matter of fact, I'm seeing pumps with oil getting inside the gas section. Talking to operators, I believe this is from running the pumps very fast, creating turbulence and pulling oil into the pump with the vapor. Slow the pumps down! The best way to decrease your recovery time is to increase the temperature of the butane, increasing it's pressure.

* I've talked to Jeff at IR, he understands the Haskel requirements and can be a great resource for you. I really recommend talking to a compressor person (like Jeff) before you buy a compressor, there are lots of options and they can make sure you are getting equipment appropriate for your location, as well as your immediate and future needs.

Thanks!
