I usually feed clones 3ml micro and 4.5ml bloom (half of 6/9) until they are a solid 10-12+ inches then I feed 6/9 every water. Even under T5. I've tried doing only half strength 6/9 under t5 the whole time but eventually got deficiencies.

Cool thanks man, If tap is under 150ppm would you suggest the regular or hardwater formula?

Head decided to drop the micro part way through bloom because he found that running it till his 10 to 14 day flush still did not give him a product that had a taste he liked. But cutting the micro early he said you lost about 10% of your yield but have a far better tasting product. This is due to no trace level metals or minerals.

Something else that a lot of people miss because they havent read the entire thread, is that in one of H3ads last post he change the ratio. He said that he no longer shoots for the 100-60-100-41. His exact words were:

" I now shoot for 100-75-150-60 n p k mg. I want my Ca to fall roughly midway between my mg and k, and my s to come in just below mg."

Good Luck

Thanks for sharing that Hobbit. I have not been in this thread in many moons. How does that change the ratio as far as 6-9 is concerned? What would be the ml. amounts he is advocating? Thanks for sharing if you know the answers...

Thanks for that Hobbit. Yeah I only read about 2/3 of the thread. I know Head changed his formula a number of times throughout. The last I read of it I remember him writing that after all the changes he decided to go back to his original formula, minus the epsom salt.

So he changed it again? What is the new ratio if not 6/9?

I really like the 6/9 part of the formula and my girls love it. I found however that when I switched to his mid/late flowering formula my girls immediately started to yellow. IMO it was too early for that so I started adding 3ml micro and a little bloom boosters, and then a week before flush cut it out. They seem to like it so far.

hey hobbit, i just went through the whole thread and also noticed this but didnt see h3ad mention what he modified in the 6/9 to achieve this...

i'm about to start a run with 6/9 switching from canna a+b..

I still use canna A+B, I just fiddled with the amounts to get it close. You will need some additional supplements to get the numers close because canna has way to little phospurus. I used Pro-Tekt and Sunleaves Bat Guano.

Well here is a very nice excel spreadsheet that I use. You enter the nute profile and density of each of your nutes/additives on the general analysis page. Then you got to the solution mix page and add in you amounts and it gives you the concentration.

Hmmm tried to attach an excel spreadsheet for you guys but cant. says invalid file extension. If anyone knows how let me know so I can post it here.

6/12 throughout the whole cycle? I have been running 6/9/1-drip clean with a 40ppm base tap water. They seem to be hungry for mg...OG's especially. Anyone running 6/9/+calmag(@1-5ml)??

Love using the 6/9 formula. I've found it works just fine with CES and Technaflora nutes as well. Once in a while i'll add some additives like CalMag but my plants generally do fine without it.

You must be in the Bay Area? I remember getting that kind of tap in SF/Oak.

I always suspected that H3ad's tap was in the 3-digit ppm's and contained noticeably more Ca/Mg than R/O and tap with low TDS. I've personally not had any luck avoiding deficiencies without Ca/Mg supplementation. Tried drifting pH and all that, too, maybe I'm doing it wrong.

I veg with 6/9 unless they specifically call for more. Seems like about half the strains I've run like more bloom, evidenced by some purpling in the stems.

Thanks grow nerd-

I have done some reading and noticed many people having Mg issues. A few of my OG's are not very fond of soley 6/9 once they are 3-4 weeks from clone. I was using 2-3ml Calmag+ but with the additional Ca and N, Epsom is a better option as it only provides Mg(and it is greatly cheaper!) I have recently switched to 1gram of Epsom per gallon in later veg and will see how that fairs – Probably use that through the first couple weeks of bloom too and then go to 6/12, less the Epsom as the bloom contains Mg..

Does this sound right?

Cheers,

PT

I could have been doing it wrong (unbalanced Ca/Mg? not enough pH drift? incorrect fertilization / watering schedule?), but I've always run into Ca deficiencies when running without a bottle of Cal-Mag.

Just make sure to cut the Epsom salts out ~3+ weeks prior to harvest.

Purple trees you can run 6/12 with a 1/4 gm of epsom. 12 mil of bloom is 55ppm of mg 1/4 gm epsom is 7ppm so that is 62ppm of mag per gl. The epsom give it frost so dont cut at 3weeks be for harvest may be like 1 1/2 weeks out. On a 8weeker cut the micro midway thrue week 6 and run the bloom to week 7 and back it down to 250 to 300 ppm for your flush.

It would be great to hear how the founders of 6/9 have altered it over the years. Everyone seems to be running a "modified" version of some sort...

I run 3/6 with 1.3 gm of epsom to 12in plants then 6/9 with 1 gm of epsom to week 4 of flower then 6/12 with 1/4 gm a gl to week 6 to 6 1/2 then drop micro. From week 6 1/2 to 7 1/2 bloom at 12. Then I back it down to 250 to 300 for the last week then water for 3 to 4 days. In week 2 koolbloom at 3 gm a gl one time at the start of week 2 with 6/9 then on week 4 same thing. I just pulled down 6 1/4LB with 4 1000s I think I will pull 7.5 to 8 this next run. Grow nerd the smoke is nice burns gray to white.

You never add extra Ca in the form of Cal-Mag or similar, and never have Ca deficiencies?

What's your water ppm? I'm assuming you're running tap, not R/O? How do you pH, and what's your fertilization / watering schedule? What strains?
