GROW TENTS !!!!!!!!!

also, what do you think would yield better?:

3 x 600w digitals in the HH deluxe

versus

2 x 600w digitals in the HH deluxe, as well as 1 x 600w in the hh mini connected together connected to a larger fan/filter.

versus

putting each light in it's own tent, daisy chaining the exhausts, with a big vortex/carbon at the end of the duct.

I'm all about convinence and buying everything complete.. because of my current living situation.

Just because DIY works better for someone else doesn't equal the same for me.

2x4s and Panda wouldn't compare to the ease of use the HH provided me.

Price isn't an object considering the final product.

exactly. very good point. if your financially secure then grow tents would be far easier Im not argueing that.

Your 100% right 2x4s and panda could not compare to the ease of use you get with the tent.

But as far as the final product is concerned, I can do pullups on my growroom frame and I weigh around 170 pounds. :joint:

See for me, Im poor as hell and already had a roll of poly. the 2x4s and screws were $25-30, and I already had the drill. I got to build the room to the exact specs I wanted too. That is something that should not be overlooked here.

I am not pitching that my way is easier, because its not. But its FAR cheaper for a better product. :joint:

hughie, do you put the plastic on the outside of the frame, or the inside? Could you explain more the design and cuts of wood you had to make.

The poly goes on the outside of the frame. You just cut it a little long height wise (it comes in a 10 foot roll so for an 8ft ceiling its perfect) staple it to the top and have the extra go underneath the frame and lay on the floor of the growroom. The 'top' pieces just lay over the outside walls. You can duct tape them but with stapleing to the frame its really not needed. It will be almost 100% light proof already. I ran duct tape around all the seems because Im running sealed.

For the wood cuts, it was all very simple. This is for a 5ftx10ftx8ft tall room

6x 5ft pieces (2 for the top and bottom horizontal 'end' corners of each side (4 total) and 2 for extra support right in the middle. I did this only because my room is so long (10ft). For a smaller room the two in the center would not be needed, but might make for a convenient hanging location  )

4X 8ft pieces (the 4 vertical corners)

4x 10ft pieces (the horizontal 'lengths')

Like I said it doesn't have to be perfect and after you cut the pieces, assuming they are all close in length (within a half inch) you will be able to make it work no problem. The key is figuring out how its gonna go together BEFORE you start putting it together.

Im actually gonna be building another room here (within the same bedroom) in about a week, maybe I should throw up a tutorial when Im building it. Its SIMPLE, CMEMORY, and most of all EFFECTIVE! :joint:

i was looking at your grow log, and i love how you have the little window ac mounted. Try that with a tent, and i'm sure it works way better than a 700 dollar portable ac. Could you show pictures of how you mounted the a'c?

I'm still considering the hut though for convenience, but man the plywood sturdiness, and window a/c with co2 are tempting, and the price tag.

Sorry if i sound like a newb, but Would it work to have a fan and carbon scrubber within the sealed to room control odor? Can you keep a co2 tank in the sealed room and release it that way?

Oh, and how long do you think it would take to unscrew it all to tear down?

Building your own would be better IMO, but the work involved in cutting out the exhausts, inlets, and making it sturdy enough to support all the lights, equipment, etc. it just doesn't make sense. Unless you have all the time in the world or are extremely good at DIY projects.

Hey dave thanks, yah I use the window AC to cool my grow, its a 5k btu (aka $90 walmart special) and right now with 2kw running and a co2 gen I have it on the LOWEST setting :biglaugh:

Ill snap some shots for ya on how the AC is mounted, but I can tell you all it is, is a (ghetto) stand made out of 2x4s. Shit the legs are not even the same length :biglaugh: Like I said Im not wizard with tools or anything, just some guy thats broke.

I just pushed the stand up next to the grow room, put the ac on it, cut a hole for the AC and BAM window AC converted into a growroom AC :D

Ive always read that running a scrubber in a sealed room will work, but my boy Eulogy is having major odor issues with that same setup. So now I don't know

I can tell you that in my experience carbon scrubbers work best if you have negative pressure in the grow room.

For the co2, yeah thats how alot of people do it. You have to buy a regulator for the tank, maybe a solenoid or something, :biglaugh: I dont know I got my co2 setup along time ago and I went the other way (co2 gen).

PS on the 2x4 thing, check this

http://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=10974&page=1&pp=15

Im about to build a room similar to this one very soon, and Im gonna connect it to my other room so I can use only 1 AC and co2 setup for 2 grow rooms :yoinks: Should be fun. :D

what your talking about is force shading and its very cheap to build. bent rebar hoops. cover it with greenhouse roll sheeting (polyetylene I think its called? I could have that wrong) and you can shade it with a greenhouse shading cloth (opaque black plastic material) both can be bought cheaply.

at the main forum I go to there is a guy that uses two rows and the bent rebar hoops to force shade. he has a garage door opener or something that comes on and drags the shading cloth over and off the rows at 7 am and pm so he doesn't have to do it manually.

hey, i got my homebox 3 months ago, got 6 plant in ther they have 5 weeks left of flowering, i bought this box because the storage room i used b4 as flowering room was bad for the plants, i just wanted somthing that worked, well a week ago i started to build my own frame and coverd it with plastic so i would get a second flowering room and even if its hard and expencive to get stuff here i live it cost 1/4 of the grow tent and is more sturdyer than the tent...

but back to pro and cons:

pros:
easy to set up/take down
easy to use (since u can open 3 walls)
a good choise for ppl that cant or wont build theyr own
a complet grow room...u only need lights and fan/filter...and ur ready

cons:
its sturdy but i think it could have been better
also think they could have done better with the doors/zippers when it comes
to light proofing... u get it light proof but u need to check it out every time u
close it that the fabric that covers the inside of the zipper r tuck under the
frame under the roof

dont take me wrogn the homebox is a good produckt but if i could done things over again i wouldnt bought it... cause after i build my own box and saw how easy it was for 1/4 of the pric of the home box its hard to justify the price of the HB..... only took 1 day to build the box (3 ft x 4 ft x 6 ft). hope it helps cobo

some pics from the homebox

ill poste some pic of the home made box later

Still workin on it, but I'll be flowering 16 1.5gal pots under a 400w digital. So far so good. Though the room is too small for me to get back far enough for a full pic.

Another month or so... :joint:

hey r4st4, nice box, same specs as mine too, down to the storage unit and everything

i'm fixin to seal up the light, add some co2 in there since not much fresh air gets inside the storage unit

other than where its placed, i love this box, just enough size to take full advantage of the 400, although I've been dreaming of using a 600 during the cool months
