Niiiice...Sammet! Thanks for the welcome. I wish my fans were quite as my Hurricane 600cfms are hella loud!

I've got a ruck 600cfm in that photo above - I made a silencer for it from some acoustic ducting, some meshing and some old metal air duct. Reduces the noise about 20-30%, but I imagine it has the same impact on air flow

a good silencer should not restrict air flow. so clowntown, do you think using 1 gallon pots would sacrifice yield or is it better to go with 2 gallons? also, how long did you veg your clones for before you flipped to flower?

for a 400 watt cooltbube in a mini hut what is the most quiet combo/brand/size filter and fan? I need this huy to be super stealthy.

I have a Dayton 465(465CFM unloaded) cooling and scrubbing my mini. It might be overkill, but it is pretty quiet. I live in an apartment complex. 3rd set of neigbors above me since I began growing. Not a word from anyone.....so I assume there isn't that much noise from my 2 blowers., I have a 95cfm that goes 24/7 as well supplying fresh air.

I can barely hear my blowers in my other bedroom. Squirrel cage type blowers are not as noisy as the Vortex type blowers IMO. Vortex blowers work very well though. I have a 12lb carbon filter that looks like most of them out there. Never had a smell issue, but that depends a lot on strain. Some strains really stink. The six strains I have experience with so far have not been very smelly. I'll have to see if I get the "cat piss" pheno of SuperSilverHaze on this grow. I sure hope my scrubber works if that happens :)

Here's pics of mine:

left side where small fresh air blower goes in left front bottom port.

right side where my Dayton 465 sits on that chair, no muffler either. A good "20 gallon trash can "muffler" would make it a lot quieter and sacrifice very little in terms of efficiency from loading. You buy the discharge side adapter and run a short piece of duct to a trash can full of holes and insulation batting. Knocks noise down a lot.

Im not a photographer, but here's the whole thing...sorta

Here's the carbon filter and how I set mine up in my mini. BUY the flange adapters. They make it very clean, easy and lightproof for ducting.
My carbon filter is on the right side of the hut so I can exhaust it STRAIGHT OUT the upper right port on the huts back side. You really want to minimize bends and turns in your ducting. Every turn adds more "loading" to the blower, making it work harder and be less efficient. The mini has 4" ports so I had to buy an adapter at HD for the scrubber. It just worked out that I had a slight negative pressure in the hut when all was done....which is ideal.

did u have it plugged in to speed control?

no plugged right in...probably could have turned it down a bit but it seemed too heavy duty.

It rocks w/ a variable speed controller! :headbange:

@ 3/4 power, it's pretty quiet. On full, forgetaboutit!

I don't understand the logic of buying a powerful blower, then putting a speed controller on it to quiet it. Why not buy a quiet blower to begin with? And Dayton squirrel cages are MUCH cheaper than Vortex of the equivalent rating.

I mean people are free to do what they want...and what works for them, but I don't see the logic in spending all that money on an expensive blower, then spending more money yet to make it run quieter. Seems dumb to me. edit: Unless you have no alternative...such as space etc. :sasmokin:

Dayton's are loud rattletraps.
Using a variable speed controller makes the Vortex efficient. I don't need it running full-on all the time, that IS overkill.
It's just a shame Vortex doesn't include one built-in.

A built in speed controller would be handy. My only knock on Vortex is the same as your on Dayton....Noise. We must have different experiences.

Maybe I should make an audio recording of mine running and post it LOLOLOL!!

try stanley blower's. you need to do a tiny bit of modding, but imo, it is probably up there on quietest blower. plus it already has three adjustable settings built in and works like a charm with dual side draw capabilities. i'm not 100% sure, but i know it is very energy efficient and can hold its own against a dayton 265cfm.

I hear you on the Stanley Blower, but my Vortex is bought and paid for, and I dig it. It IS loud running full-on for sure. My hut is in an unheated rm. and my 600w is in a cooltube, + the electronic ballast throws off no real heat.
So as it's been getting colder, I've had to run a ceramic heater at night, and I turn off the Vortex thru the lights-out cycle.I'm still adjusting the thermostat
on it, but it's always toasty when I open it back up, in the 70's.
I then turn it off and put on the Vortex and my oscillating fan, but after a few hrs. temps have dropped to the mid sixties. I then put on the heater behind the circ. fan and get the temps up to the low 70's. I hate paying to blow hot air out :cuss:
I was wondering if all you 'tenters' leave your doors open during your light cycle? If I know I'll be around to shut things up, I leave the door open, with a 12"circulating fan hitting them from outside. Just wondering how many others do this?

My tent stays closed 24/7 unless I'm working with my plants. My room can be heated but I generally leave it turned to about 70F. The light which doesn't have air thru it keep things warm enough during the day. At night, The room and grow can get quite cool this time of year IF I want it to be. I keep a 95CFM going all the time which keeps fresh ambient temp air going throuh all the time. Worked out well so far.

The bigger exhaust blower goes 24/7 . Doesn't seem to hurt and doesn't use much juice.

Aye, closed all the time - lockdown! And fan on 24/7 too, regardless of light cycle, keeps any smell going through the carbon filter :)

Right Lads and Lasses here is a link to the MANUFACTURES of the grow tents in China . This is how this site works , you ask them for a quote, and their minimum order , or ask them can you get samples of theses tents(you will have to pay for samples and shipping) I got a quote for about $42usd "1.2mx1.2mx2m" and then you have to pay shipping and any customs charges ie. VAT .sea freight is not expensive .NO! you dont need to speak chinesse to speak with them . they are well educated and very business savvy , but also very honourable . i asked for a sample of 10 tent just to see how thinks go , the more you buy you will get discount but you need big numbers for that .

You can do a search on the site for "Grow Tents" and you will find more manufactures , ask them all for a quote . you will be AMAZED:jump: at the

You can also tell them not to put Grow Tent on the Box , agriculture grow room is perfectly legal name and thats what it comes under for customs clearance .Perfectly legal to buy and own theses tent , you could be growing Strawberrys or rare flowers , no one will ask you what it for .

ps. when asking for a Quote , ask for FOB Quote
