I had to prune part of my moms as they were overgrowing. I should say, after years of using fluo lamps, that they works great for me in veg. Plants are happy, they grow a lot even in very small pots and usually leaves are just perfect till the last one. On the other hands, I don't like so much HID lamps to keep moms for a long time.

Plants were like this:

After an hour they were like this:

picture.php

I saved some space too, used to put some more moms in

picture.php

Most of the moms in the pics are growing in 0,4 liters pot. Bigger ones are in 1 liter. All coco&perlite. I use Canna coco a+b pretty much everyday, and I often flush the medium with some more water than usual. Water is 0,3 mS/cm as I cut tap with RO. Total EC value is usually around 1.0 - 1.5. I keep pH around 7.

I also spend some time randomly to remove little shoots on moms, this way they can grow with a better shape, basically avoiding massive branching and promoting bigger leaves.

Baklava and ForbiddenFruitCake seedlings are growing under few watts of led light. Nothing special to report. Will transplant them soon.

On the other side I have another small selection going on, well...let's say just started.

All the seeds in this selection are gifts from growers friends so guys, wherever you are, whatever you're doing, thanks a lot for it :tiphat:

At left there are 4 GreenPoison clones vegging for a hydro run. I still grow this cut because it's easy, stable, with a good resin coverage, good yield, fast to flower, a great mango smell but unfortunately the only thing to complain about is aroma not being as good as the smell.

All the others are:

Females:

10x CheeseCake Cookies ( should be Exodus cheese X cookies n' cream)

Regulars:

9x FPOG x Wed.Cake x Gelato

7 x PelmoDawg (should be 24K x Stardawg)

5 x MileyCyrus x UrkleBerry

Overall they're growing nice. I will pinch them to promote some branching and then take cuttings, so they can be moved in the flowering room just after a transplant in 3 liters pot. Now they're growing in 1 liter of thick coco fibers mixed with some perlite and others products.

Just few pics I took after trimming some Spumoni. I need to say...I like this strain. On 6 plants I like them all. I think ThePlug Seedbank did a good job.

Smell and aroma varies but not so much. First impression is dank dank dank. Some flowery and fruity light tones surrounded by a good intense kushy/lavender aftertaste but it's more complex than what I can describe here. Nothing reeeeeally impressive but overall I will keep one mom for sure. I need to flower them one more time to understand better who will be ''the keeper''.

Buds are little rocks, despite high temperature in this season. Yield is good/great. Each one yielded around 45 grams. Some grams more for the longer phenos. Currylato will yield more but also took more to finish.
Took around 60/65 days to flower. 12 plants under a 660W HPS.

More pics and details will come

From the last selection run I saved just one OGKZ by HumboldtSeeds, pheno #3. It has a strange aroma, I can't identify exactly, it seems sugary with some chemical plastics, not bad at all. Smell is not so intense and aftertaste too. I will maybe keep it but it will not be a real ''keeper''.

Here at late flo, a week more for harvest.

Does it get boring growing excellent pot?

Yeah i know.. It doesn't.

:thank you:

Yeah dude, it doesn't, also beacuse not always they're that great.

Years of growing and I'm still learning a lot of things you know...mistakes, try try try than change again, hydro, supersoil, coco...whatever.

At now my main issue is that I can't let flower properly few clones I have in the batch...and I dunno why. One on the list is OrangeDiesel...it starts flowering good, I check it often, few male flowers removed and the same it ends full of useless withish seeds, almost no resin, almost no smell. Almost the same is happening with GG4, I thrown away few flowering clones a couple of days ago.
Seems something is changed in the mom and its pheno expression has changed. I will investigate into this more and more but I dunno if I can solve the issue.

Lucky me all the other moms, including exodus cheese (the oldest I have) are perfoming great.

Some moms are stable during the years, always giving exactly the same pot everytime. Some others don't.

Some cuts with different temps, or quantity of co2, or type of nutes, change completely... Particularly high temps for someone kill taste and high..

Yeah I know bro, but that's not my issue. No matter if cold or warm, supersoil, hydro or coco...seems the mom itself has been compromised.

This happened only one time to me, like 7 or 8 years ago with a cheese cut. I give the cut to a friend, than he gave it back to me after some months.
It lost completly its strong smell. Tried to grown several times, I also made S1 seeds out of it and all the offspring was without smell. Nothing, all the good smell was gone.

I think epigenetic is involved and I'm trying to figuring out what's happening overall, where to put my energies, what to toss and what not.

Any of you reading this post ever had a mom like the ones I described? Feel free to give your 2 cents :)

Could depend on how much you value the cut. to some they would give their left nut for the cut, for others its cut-shmut cut her loose and let her go, move on to the next.
I grow almost exclusively from seed atm.

Why its happening> genetic degradation.. ? You hear it on the boards.
Those little white pips, they appear, without apparent males.

Unsolved Mysteries.

A combination of genetic and environment. Constant change. Evolution. Environmental is many things, water, air, media analysis.

No nuts involved in the game for sure  but I would be very disappointed to lose some moms I have.

Genetic degradation? It's deduction and it could be a wrong one.

I also keep other moms having big big difficulties to go over 3 weeks of flowering without a severe yellowing starting from the bottom.

No matter if the cut is old, young, big, small or whatever. 3 weeks and they start to yellow, where ALL the other plants, grown and fed exactly the same show a perfect health.

Active roots proteins, the ones in charge of taking in different kind of ions, seems to be inactivated too fast, along a relocation of N in the plant, taking it from the bottom and charge the upper part.

I'm talking about few strains over many, all the others are perfectly fine. I see a pattern where only few plants over hundred show this kind of issues.
Situation changes in hydro. ALL the plants in hydro do not show any yellowing till nutrients are removed from the solution.

About the little seeds forming in the buds without any apparent male flower...I'm pretty sure the male pollen is directly produced inside the calix, near the ovary. This explains why I can't find seeds in plants next to the seeded ones and also explains why those seeds are not real developed seeds but just a failed try. Observed with macro lens they're barely enlarged ovaries.

A combination of genetic and environment. Constant change. Evolution. Environmental is many things, water, air, media analysis.
Yep, I agree. That's why I can't change the environment if not just a little bit, but I can select and keep only the best stable mothers during the years.

Try backcrossing.

Something sad to me about a plant that never sees the sun and/or never has its roots in dirt.

I can't go BX bro, but maybe I can put some sun in their life, thanks for pointing it out.

Waw! Very very nice!

Golem :)

Thanks dude :tiphat:

Ya try putting mum in the sun as per Shantibaba Mr nice seeds advice

I will give it a try and let see what happens in 6 months.

Thanks guys, any other input is welcome as ever :)

For each plant I take two cuttings. Sometimes one or two dies, so better to have a second one than reveg a mom after flowering.

I cut the leaves just to save some space, trying to avoid touching leaves.

picture.php

I now regularly use eazyplugs, they're cheap and easy to use. Cuttings taken from plants grown from seeds start to root after a week usually.

picture.php

They go in the clone-box under few watts of led lights

picture.php

After the cuttings were safe under the dome, main plants were transplanted in the quick way in a 3 liters pot and moved in the flowering room.

picture.php

Two or three months from this moment and I will know if something is worth to be called keeper, always hope to find a real one.

Its oddly satisfying when plants are so healthy:biggrin:

True. I'm also happy as the coco mix I made it's still ''new'' to me and it's great to see plants responding good to it.

GG#4 here. This clone seems to flower the right way, with enough trichs to call it gg4 and seedless, or at least apparently. Will see if it's capable of ending a full bloom without issues.

StarDawg Illuminati cut

First time with this plant, started to flush it maybe too early but overall it looks good and despite the little pot (1 liter) it yielded 30 grams. Took around 75 days to finish. Smell is something strange, I can't identify it really good. I like it, it has some aftertaste and a good and smooth aroma. Reminds me of wet wood, some pinene?, fresh aftershave.
