Happy new year to everyone!

Today I started a new run in r-dwc with the same ex.cheese clones.

The last clones were grown too much, buds collapsed on each other for the weight, and mold attacked 3 large colas. Not so many damages, but the overall situation told me to harvest and start a new run, remember to switch to flower when the clones are still little.

The next one will rock for sure, I acquired more knowledge using this setup. Actually I have to find a good strategy to fight mold when the buds are so large! Any of you hydro guys use any kind of product directly in the rez?

New run of ChocoTonic, first day of flowering

Canna Aqua Vega till now. Will switch to Flora soon.
Tap water EC = 0,6 mS/cm Total EC 1 - 1.1
pH 6,5 - 7
Water temp 22ºC
Feeding schedule: 15 minutes ON - 120 minutes OFF
Medium is composed by a lower layer of clay pebbles, then a big central layer of perlite, and a top layer of clay pebbles again.

I started using the plastic supports under the pots few months ago. Love them, water flows better and roots grow healty.

I'm using an ISOMAX 160mm - 430m3/h for the room. It's ok right now, but in summer it's too small. Gotta change it with a bigger one. However I love this ISOMAX model, is really quiet and it works good. The 200 mm model is way more noisy but it's also a double rate airflow fan.

For 8 plants system with 3x660W HPS I'm using a 90 liters reservoir. Pump is 1000 liters per hour. Not the best, but it does the work. I also inserted a connection in first line coming out of the pump to make it easier to empty the system to clean and change with new water every two weeks.

And here some Exodus cheese on the sides and Amnesia Haze (the taller ones) in the middle, starting to fattening up.

Good vibes to all of you guys, here some ChocoTonic, same of last pics and last run for this year probably.

The cut is always the same since years now, F1, strong and good yielder, flowering around 70/75 days but with high Tº can reach easily 80/85 or more, this is why the last run for this year.

System is always the same, recirculating hydro, fabric pots, perlite 70% and clay pebbles 30% as described below.

EC 1.2 - pH 6.5/7 - Canna Aqua Flores

Tried and still trying two different watering schedules. The first is 15min. ON and 15min. OFF during day and night.
Second one is 15min, ON and 120min. OFF during day and night.

The second one can be used only if temperature is dialed in.

The first one SHOULD be used where and when the environment is cold enough to slow down plant's metabolism or, where the environment is hot enough to create issues like fluffy buds with less trichome's % and less aromas.

Water can be easily warmed. In a cold environment you can take advantage of that how water to keep roots at the right Tº, even if the air is a little too cold, without seeing the plant's metabolism go down, or speeding up the flowering.

Water can be cooled down too. It's not so easy and a little more expensive, but other than that, water for its own always stay a little cooler than air. You can take advantage of this cooling down root's temperature using that water. Fabric pot will help with evaporation, thus removing heat from the roots.

Obviously a chiller is the best option!

They're still at mid flowering and will fatten up more and more I know, ending with giant colas, with high risk of mold. This is also why I choose to let the popcorn buds on, to let'em suck energies from the plant avoiding fattening even more the main colas and also because I love ChocoTonic BHO and popcorn buds are easy to use for that giving out nice tastes!

They're consuming like 15-20 liters of water each day in mid-flowering, maybe the point along all the run in which they consume more nutes and water

Like how these pots work. With the longer watering schedule, the one with 15ON and 120OFF roots don't come out so easily. On the other hand, the other watering schedule (15ON and 15OFF) let the roots exit more easily going to colonize the tray.

In this pic you can see only fee roots (longer watering schedule).

And some flowers

When I write about watering schedule and roots it's because you can take advantage of this too.

When you have a roots carpet on the tray and the air is hot, the quantity of water evaporating is huge and roots can cool down naturally, giving a real effect on the final quality of the flower. It's easy and works, if all it's done in the correct way.

Here in the pictures some trays with old roots of just chopped plants. As you can see they're quite a lot and could have been more.

The only two issues are light and algae (just cover with something) and avoid letting them go into the drain line, using a filter or just the hands.

Man. You have a serious green thumb.

Thanks for the informative posts. The info you are sharing will be of great use to me and, I'm sure, many others.

And... Those buds are just perfect. Looking forward to every update!

Thanks ODF, glad someone is finding some useful informations :tiphat:

Here some Amnesia Core cut, full of thick trichomes, nice selection!

Usually I use a duct ozone generator where smell is a problem, but sometimes ozone can't be used so I mount a regular carbon filter. When I have extra-smelly flowering plants like exodus cheese I learned to use a recirculating carbon filter, mounted with a boxed fan (HDF wood) inside the room. Simple and effective.

GSE Timer box and Lumatek 400V. Maybe not the best but a good combo, simple and effective.

New run with mixed strains. Got 4x PCK-Tonic, 4xGreenPoison, 4x AmnesiaCore.

Many times I saw newbies asking about using the same nutritive solution for various strains. In my case, I see no problem at all with it. I had many strain growing with the same solution many times and usually nothing strange happens.

Sometimes, if you get a N sensitive plant, you can notice a little darker and droopy leaves, but nothing serious. Just low pH and/or nutes.

Now they grow with 3x 400W, when first flowers come out I'll switch to 3x660W
pH 6.5 - 7
EC 1.0 - 1-1 mS/cm

Amnesia Core, it grows fast and strong!
picture.php

GreenPoison...the weak one of the group. Maybe the last run with this cut.

picture.php

PCK-Tonic, grows like a perfect hybrid, but if during the stretch get some heat, it can delays the flowering for a month getting huge.

picture.php

You can clearly see the differences between each tray

I also mounted an old water filter with a 30µ mesh. Not mandatory at all, but I modified it to take advantage when I need to change water or take some of it away, or just fill the rez again with tap.

For sure it keeps things cleaner, so it can't do any damage!

yeah that a good update mate ;)

Thanks bro, I try to do my best, like everyone...hoping to not end surfing in Dallas...you know

Perfection as usual noreason. Do you track your G/Watt. Im curious. ;)

Thanks Paulie, however I'm pretty far from perfection...and this is good, because my mind is still thinking about growing like in the first years, just with more informations and more complicated things...to avoid doing complicated things

I'm now trying BIOCANNA in my hydro setup, just with one lamp with 4 ExodusCheese. If I can end this run without problem I will try if there is any difference in the smoke.

Along this I'm also studying a way to grow without using medium, so the target is HPA, trying at the same time to have a cooling effect for the roots while using no medium, just little nutritive solution and in the same time maximizing metabolism.

So if anyone has any real feedback about BIOCANNA and recirculating hydro OR has any information on where to get an HPA pump (booster pump, membrane pump, diaphragm pump) in Europe or from wich household appliance I can get one, please tell me as I'm having little time for studying right now.

Oh and sorry Paulie...about the G/W....I think it has to be G/W/Days or at least G/KWh. Only G/W is not a good indicator overall IMHO.

However I don't know right now the numbers. I have all the datas wrote but I should export and make the math.
For me a good goal starts from getting 3K/Year for each 600W lamp, and usually I get it. Depending on the strain I can get more, or spending more days of flowering.

Had spider mites in a mother room some times ago. Treated with many products and they're gone. To prevent any return I keep rotating different natural acaricides.

Like this combo by eco-prot, seems mites don't like it and it also leave a nice smell in the room for a couple of days. Mixed together at the lower dose.

picture.php

To spray everything I like so much my berry5 from Matabi, a good friend of mine. Very nice mist, easy to use, strong and spare parts available, it worth the money. Max. capacity is 3.5 liters (not 5).
