Are there northern outdoor growers (50deg+) trying these out? Curious to hear other experiences
Hello bonghoper!
I believe Greenceder is at least 43N into Canada. I could not relocate a report that someone posted, I believe it was 53 North?, with good success. I wish I could find that post. If I remember correctly they may have come in just a bit later, but that could be because of longer daylight hours up there, but also time of planting and total light exposure of the garden, could be influences. But please if you do a grow I would be very keen on your results.
Hope that helps!

Hi Vman,
Was that me last Monday? I'm at 53 here, and cool temperate - not many summer heat units here, very mild winters though. We have to find short season / cool tolerant varieties of everything - fruit, herbs and veggies. I'm in a good place to test for what works well in this far from ideal for herb outdoor climate. Always a mega challenge to get a 90-100% sativa to chunk up in those conditions. Mid Oct is the end of decent sized buds. So getting something to really get into flower at the start of August is a challenge. Sativa selections of UEL - Reefermans ultra early lovepotion has been a useful tool here to get early flowering, but still effect the high somewhat.

Finishing times here are a month later than the catalogue - Purple Satellite finished mid Oct, and Early Grape Early/Mid Oct. 4 female PS and 3 female EG, 1 outstanding PS from those. Hopefully has a few UEL seeds in there from hand pollinations.
Early Grape is an Aroma bomb but I'll need to cross it to something earlier to get the most out of it.
Looking forward to sowing those 3 packs of PS and finding a gem or two, and giving Mountain Gold a go too, it sounds like it'll be about 2 weeks later than PS?

Thank you so much for your clarification.
I have had a couple Grape phenos flower as soon as end of August. I am going to riun Grape Fem seed that was selfed from plant that finished Sept 14th and hopefully pull a late August pheno from that batch next season and then from there fem that back to itself to try to fix that super early trait.

could likely be a couple of days ahead

Definitely nice work there my friend.
I kept height control by only vegging for three weeks up potting only when near stress and minding the watering schedule, keeping it light. I think the red and blue heavy LEDS I use also helped keep PBB in check for me.
Cheers!

Hi sir, interesting! When do you suggest is the right time to repot a flowering plant? The plant on the picture looks like 20-25 days flowering.
Hello Max!
You are pretty close these were about 17 days into flower which still gives a major boost, These needed it because in the two gallon they were very root bound but I find going up to about 35 days and even into fourty into flower boost yields tremendously. When I repot I use same organic amendments but instead of chicken poo, I use just a small amount of blood meal for fast nitrogen release, I still use bone meal, gypsum and lime.

I thought the COB style leds might be cool for the Sativas because it's like sunlight, but boii am I getting overgrown. Clones straight into flower, 2gals but still 5ft...
the Thais even worse at 8ft, I just had to supercrop another one touching the tents ceiling.
not happy with that run, expected plants 2/3 the size so I can transplant later.
In my little space I can't handle plants this big, without completely losing my shit from claustrophobia.
just gonna keep up the constant watering from now, with little motivation and take whatever bud comes out of it.

A lot of pure sativa as you know shoot for the sky, that's what heavy blue light helps a bit with the height and also severe under potting at least until the stretch stops. I know a lot of people post and have amazing results with COBS, I have never done well with them or even HPS lights, but that's probably just because of my style of growing?
Anyway trying this new supplemental lighting one is IR and the other is UV They only use about 11W but are said to cover a 4X4 space, and yes the light is blinding and I was pretty careful about not looking into this UV as much as possible as I took pics!

Purple Satellite @44°n, low elev., this last Sept. 30. Aromas while in cure jars are strong and on point w/your description; high is pleasantly potent. As a serious amateur breeder I'm jazzed to see what F2's hold, along with a few Original Haze crosses.
Thank you VTman for creating these, and again to Ace for passing them on.

Hello OHN!
Nice job on your grow and cure, very well done. i must say it is my pleasure to see growers and grows enjoying, my work. And yes I think P.S. can be used as a terrific breeding tool to potentially shorten many new strains. And your S2 as I say F2's should be very uniform and continue to remain very stable, from what I have seen from other growers, Just to add thank you for sharing your Latitude it really helps me and others understand how much further north these can go.

Six pineapple candy clones one week under 12/12.

yep, should definitely start flowering in quarts going forward!(y)

COBS have very good penetration and seem to work best with scrog nets or short commercial hybrids that bush out. I once pulled a 860g scrog from this 450W.
haven't done one since, because those don't allow for selections and I prefer pollen chucking over cash cropping.
Life could be very easy, just growing the same cut year round and perfecting that, instead of constantly running head first into walls^^

starting to love this banana bud, every hard grow is a level up
you know how it works with garden and stress, sometimes I feel like trashing everything because it's completely overwhelming in a weakened state, but doing the work bit by bit and staying the course is rewarded with happy plants.
