I have a small woodland clearing that I developed a couple of years ago. It doesn't get very many hours of direct sun but I still manage to get some good results. I have a second area where I have about 20 big grow bags and that's where I grow a lot of my sweet peppers and tomatoes, and they get mostly just afternoon sun. I expect to have more deer pressure this year, but so far they leave my reefer alone.

Very cool!
Nothing more natural than
growing great herb and veg.

Ah you are most welcome Rob!
Is the organic super soil something you get prepackaged?
Also curious about the lights you use, I love to learn more of what is making growers successful with my material and if it helps other gardeners I feel its a win win for everybody.
And Thank You!

Greetings VTman. I actually make my own soil with Fox Farm Ocean Forest. Ive been adding bone meal(2 tbsp/gal), kelp meal(3 tbsp/gal), bat guano(1 tbsp/gal), some azomite(1 tbsp/gal) and lots of worm castings(1 cup/gal). And ofcourse Ill add some epsom during the flowering phase if I spot a deficiency. As far as lights go Ive been using a 600watt in a 5x5 grow tent. Online it says that I need a 1000watt for that amount of space but youd be surprised what Ive harvested so far. I also don't have a way to extract all that heat so I just keep the room cooled and keep the air flowing. A lot of folks would certainly call it a half-assed grow setup. But you have to be creative when you live in a residential neighborhood in East Texas😁

Well it sounds like you are doing a wonderful job of growing your garden. Your organic mix sounds similar to my own with just a bit of variation.
I also understand what it means being in with a State that has harsh cannabis laws as well as much milder ones.
Keeping it green!!!!

Stem smells are great breeding tools especially for picking out the males.

Thats quite fascinating VTman. I learn something new everyday. Could stem smell be used to determine which plant is actually male? Silly question i guess. I know they show themselves pretty fast but id like to get them out of the room as soon as possible so I can start transplanting

males have a specific smell to me. I’ve been almost always right with it.

Hey Rob!
Obviously not a silly question, in all my 45 years of growing before now I would had said no
I guess I do not have the discerning sense of smell Cactus has, Which I find impressive! So I guess we all learn something new.
That is the best part of sharing on these threads.
Cheers Cactus!

Covid has messed it up a bit and made all my smells kinda “fleeting”, but so far it’s been really accurate for me.
Some strains the “boy stink” is much more pronounced than others, but it’s always the same smell. I don’t get it from stem rubs or anything either, that overpowers the boy smell, I only get it when I gently smell the leaves, especially on top of the main shoot.

Try putting cuttings of known boy and girl plants in a room that aren’t into flower yet, mix them around and don’t look at the labels, then very lightly smell the tops. Try and sort them based on the one commonly found, light musky weed smell that seems to cut through the other vegging weed smells. It’s in the “front middle” of the smell and not the backend.
See if you ended up sorting by male/female when checking labels.
The smell is a marijuana smell and I can’t describe it as anything but a weed smell, but the exact scent is slightly different on male plants. Slightly sharper smelling and different than how females smell. Not sure if Musky is the right word for it. I usually start smelling it after 3-4 nodes.

VM, your strains don’t have a super strong boy smell to me. It’s there but not “damn your balls stink!” There like some other strains. Malawi x Panama it was stupid apparent on the 3 males I’ve grown out as was the zamaldelica x Ethiopia.

Interesting observation Cactus.
I wonder why my strains are less obvious for the boy smell.

Honestly could just be my covid nasal issues making it seem fainter than others. I haven’t run any other regular seeds since my last round to see if another breeders work also has a faint male smell or not. The Rona really did a number on how my nose seems to work.

Zapotecas...they are getting tropical candy aromas now. Lovely plants even though they are a little over fed.

Salutations, vermontman. I'm enjoying growing PS! Can you, and anyone else who has grown PS F2, describe the phenological variability, or any other phenotypic insights? Have you experimented with stabilizing the cross into a variety? (Or is there any trait you'd like to fix?). I've got seeds I collected from the Gabon/RDC border. I never saw the plants (flower looked like brick weed of yester year), but I assume they are completely inappropriate for growing outside in Boulder. But the psychotropic effect was unlike any I have ever experienced: a sharp attenuation of the senses, not at all "trip weed”. If administered blind, I'm not sure I would even identify it as Cannabis. I'd say "unknown stimulant of nobel strength and character." I like the idea of crossing it with an early flowering sativa if it's effect could be preserved. PS unless inbred for 4+ generations, I'd guess would throw too much genetic diversity into the mix for an inexperienced breeder to make any progress with. What do you think? Any of the PS parentals commercially available, or is there another IBL variety that might be appropriate for me to experiment with? There's no way I'm going to put the work in to breed it pure into something that works in Colorado if it behaves as I imagine. I would guess that would take 15+ years, the ability to grow out thousands, and suerte. I haven't tried any of the commercially available central African strains. Anything match my description? I've got Bangai Haze growing now, but my guess is it gets one more high-- than for lack of a better word--hightened.
