I am planning on making some F2 with the PBB. I have 2 different pheno males. My question is: should I only use 1 or use both as a sort of "open" pollination. Planning to hitting both the #1 and #2 with the pollen.

Hello Lester!
You certainly could use both that would give you just a little more diversity, though you also could select the male with the best growth habit and more desired stem rub smell. It's all personal choice.
Hope that helps!

That Mountain Gold is lovely. I would love to try that one too, but don't have the time and space just yet. We shall see how the year shapes up.

So what is in the Federation Hawaiian Sativa again that is used in the Mountain Gold? It has some indica influence obviously...

Hey Tex!
Federation Hawaiian Sativa is pure Sativa From Hawaii back in the early seventies known as Kona Gold or banana bud because of the thick golden curved buds similar to The Big one Molokai below.
Federation was a seed company out of Vancouver. When the breeder went to HA on Vacation he was gifted a handful of buds by a Hawaiian surfer dude from which he plucked a few seeds. He brought them back to Vancouver where he worked them to grow indoors under lights releasing them as a fully stabilized gorgeous 100% sativa.
Below are pictures of Hawaiian Sativa from back in the day.
Man I wish I had seed from all of them!

Your grow shots really point to Colombian type origins of the Hawaiian strains to my eyes. Maybe Mexican as well, and I know there is a lot of speculation that those two regions are the way that pot got to the islands originally many decades ago. That makes a lot of sense I think and there are many stories as I discovered when I looked into it awhile back. Check out these two Punto Rojos I have going right now, could be long lost cousins. :D

That looks really terrific!
I believe you are quite correct I am sure they had many Mexican South American and far eastern Varieties that grew in their perfect climate. I once read any grass grown in Hawaii just got better!
How many weeks along is she? Are those seeds forming in the buds?

Hey vermontman what is the high like on that federation Hawaiian? I have some GMG from Ace that I am going to grow outdoors this year. I have been using Blue Hawaiian from JOTI the past couple of years though. Some pheno's of the BH had really strong head and body highs, but the odd one would be a really strong electric head high with no body effect, I always wondered if that's what real Hawaiian was like.

Hello Peace!
Fist JOTI seeds are pretty awesome.I have their Purps. which has the most amazing lemon smell with a very sativa upbeat vibe, you may have read that from me on here before, I wish I had more detail on their breeding stock. I read a bit ago it was a mother and daughter team? But I really do not know.
The high on Federation HA is very up, more of a head high Some of the phenos can be a bit racey,
The Green mountain Grape is a good powerful up high with just a tinge of body. but nothing that will make you want the couch. But not for a lack of potency.
Hope that helps

vermontman I admire your openness and upbeat approachability. Its refreshing. I wasn't aware that you aimed to breed nld types that would finish in the northern hemisphere. While they wouldn't finish in my neck of the woods without intervention, it has me intrigued nonetheless.
I've added a few more names to my list of seeds to aquire!

Edit: ordered lol

Yes, these are heavily seeded with Red Snake pollen. So it's a backcross.... Punto Rojo x (O'79 x Punto Rojo)..... I reckon they are at least a month along so a few weeks left to go. Then I can move my Zacateca Tributes and Bodhi Zipolite Oaxacans into the flower room. :)

Love those vintage photos of the various Hawaiians. They definitely look very Colombian or Mexican, but that Cambodian also has a certain family look as well. My friends in HA currently are only growing indica hybrids for all the usual reasons, but that sadly seems to be the story most places. Thanks for keeping the good old fashioned sativa flame alive! :D

Hey Fitz!
I appreciate that, I have always loved Sativa plants, they can be so elegant,
So when I discovered years ago that I could grow certain Sativa in the North and it had a terrific high and not just stone, I was all in.
Please keep us posted!
