ptk crosses looking good tony!
antheis... my .02, because pollen collection is lots of fun. tony's mileage may vary
I wait until male sacks are starting to open. Those male buds are beat up a bit (manipulated with fingers or some tool) to get anything that has opened or is ready to open to fall off. I collect anything that falls on sheets of paper. Then the plant goes back under lights.
Let your collection on the paper dry for a few days.
Then go through and manipulate everything that has been collected again. I use a card or something and essentially 'chop' everything collected once dry. Card it into a pile, and chop again... Repeat... This releases the tiny individual stamens from the larger pollen sacks and gets the most bang for your buck.
If you don't let things dry out and really break up those pollen sacks, you're leaving a lot of pollen on the plant and is ultimately wasted.
Granted it depends on how big you're talking, you may not need that much pollen and simply letting it fly will do the work.
But I tend to flip smaller males and like to maximize pollen collection.
I do several rounds of the above as the male opens more sacks. Once they hit a point where a ton are opening, I harvest like I would a female, let the male parts dry, and use the same process to get the final bits of pollen.
Have had great success, especially on girls that are reversed and don't like to drop pollen as much as a normal male. But due to letting some open, you need a different space or isolated area... I've used cardboard boxes before with cfl/led with plenty of success. They are only moved around 21-28 days when they start to open sacks and then finished by 42-45 usually, resulting in more pollen than most can use reasonably
Good vibes all
