Going African

Hm, King Sunny Ade, first saw him at Glastonbury, in the eighties, he really got the crowd going. Great talk talk drumming. I might have to digitise that album too. Great pics of the bangi LMN.
I remember when the farmers (mostly portugese) were kicked out of Angola, rumour had it that they werent allowed to bring their money out of the country, so an awfull lot of weed made it through to portugal & spain instead, Some of it made it to UK. I did try growing some & some Nigerian which we see a lot more of in this country UK, but I couldnt get them to flower here. Alot of it was very seedy, which I like, those seed casings (kief) smoke so nice! Nice to see african genetics pics. good luck.
cheers farmaz2.

Thx for the responses, everyone!
Went to check on the Nigerian male I transplanted 5 days ago. Looking good!

He's in a field on an abandoned property that I stuck a Lifesaver clone in a few yrs ago w/ no problem. I keep waiting for this property to go on the market and hope it won't happen in the next few months. I'm using the 2 Nigerian males to make f2's, as well as most everything in the garden. They are the one strain I've got going that finishes fairly early, so I'll probably discreetly hit up all these afro strains w/ the N pollen.
Sure would like to know more about these Nigerians...:chin:
I still might keep another Congo male. I'm going to visit w/ fish fertilizer beginning of next wk and hope to ID more confirmed sexes.
Glass Man, good for you w/ the crosses!

farmaz2, I'm w/ you on the talking drum. The way they recorded it is great, real bassy, like it hits you in the gut.
Seeing him live in a club was great, the african form of tribute for a good band is to stick paper $ on the sweaty performers. I've got pictures somewhere but haven't found them yet.

Yeah they wack it with a big curved stick, while tuning the skin in or out with their other hand makes a great sound. Talk drums were used to communicate between villages. Makes texting look a bit sissy really. :)
cheers

I visited the garden yesterday, we'd had some rain and all were looking great. I had the camera but by the time I'd finished working with the plants my hands were dirty & I was sweaty and hungry, so decide to skip the photography.

I'd decided to try a technique which I heard about from a friend on another site, think he's in Canada. He claims this has greatly improved his outdoor yields. I stripped the leaves from the lowest branches and buried them in the soil to root and become part of the root mass/ feeding system rather than being the worthless lower branches which won't really produce and many growers would just prune away instead.

It made good sense to me, especially while visiting the plants and actually seeing what he was describing. It seemed to me that these branches would also become good for braching the heavy plants towards the end of flowering and through stormy weather.

You might want to give it a try too. I can't see how it could hurt anything.

peace,
GM

Interesting idea, Glass Man! :chin: May have to try it after liberating some cuttings from those lower branches. They are all growing @ exceptional rates so I better act soon!
Today I confirmed a 2nd Congo girl, one Power Malawi girl, and one Cantarela senorita. (the smallest!)
The Nigerian girl looks like she's putting out more than pre-flowers! :yoinks:

The one in the field just has pre-flowers. The one inside is studded w/ little immature balls, just ready to explode outside! I just upped the time indoors to 16.5 hrs, which is what the actual visible light outdoors is. Also, one of the Nigerian Nightmare's was culled after showing pre-flower balls.

Visited plot #2 this A.M. w/ some fish fert. ID'd sex on 8 of the 10 plants there, 5 girls!
Here's the biggest ones:

Nigerian female, Power Malawi, (probably a male :frown:) Congo female
That's another undetermined Congo, forground rgt.

Here's two Cantarela's (Lesotho X Uzbekisten)

One on the left is a girl, one on the rgt, a boy who will be pulled.

Here we have two Early Durban's:

Left is a male to be pulled, on the right, a girl! :woohoo:

Last but surely not least is this Angola X Banghi girl. Surprised not to see the thin leaves like the ones LMN has posted. She's still quite young tho, most plants start off w/ fuller leaves before resorting to their typical sativa thin leaves as they mature.

The other A X B @ this plot is a male that will be culled.
Peace from the creeping jungle! :D

¡Sí LMN, ninguna duda el verde! Tan ahora no son ' Liamba's. ¿Hay un nombre angolano para el verde? ¡Agradezca por fijar el verde, ella es hermoso!

Yes LMN, no doubt the Green! :D So now they're not 'Liamba's'. Is there an Angolan name for the Green?
Thank for posting the Green, she is beautiful! :respect:

Made a fertilizing run to plot #1 this A.M.
Was thrilled to find the 2nd Power Malawi there is also female! :woohoo:
Took cuttings from them both as well as the Congo girl there.
Pulled a male Candarela and a male Angolan X Banghi. :(
The 5 others there I haven't been able to I.D. yet.
The one Nigerian plant there is a creeper pheno, never seen one before. A pic forthcoming.
Meanwhile here's an undetermined Congo in the forground, Congo girl to the rgt of jugs, an Angolan X Banghi to the left, and a Power Malawi girl in the rear.

They're getting big and I will no doubt have to do some additional clearing to accomadate. :D

Bacchus, rastanfisk, Deft, & budluver, thx for stopping by!

rastanfisk, thx for posting your Malawi hybrid! With that makeup, I bet it'll be killer! I've heard of the JawisJoy, is it from a seed bank? Hope to see some pics of it @ some point.
Deft, I really like my spots too, cept when the ocean fog rolls in.
They are close to a trail, but we have one of the highest rates of Lyme disease, and other than hunters, folks just don't venture into the brush. Mixed blessing for me, as I'm being treated for Lyme right now. :frown:
This A.M. I moved all of the Nigerian Nightmare's out of the house, as the Nigerian male is opening sacs. Timer set back to 18 hrs now in an effort to stiffle him til the appropriate time. :drum: Two of the NN's were planted in the holes of the males I pulled yesterday.
Can't believe I missed it yesterday, but the Nigerian creeper pheno is a girl!
Deft, a creeper is a plant whose lower branches lie on the ground, running like vines til they find some light to grow up to. This plant was topped way back when, and the one half just flopped over, then up. Some would look at this as a genetic weakness, but it's also pretty stealth-like. I remember in an old High Times I have, a pictorial on a "Maine creeper". It didn't get up past a couple of ft in hgt, but spread out to something like 16'!
Check this gal out:

^^^looking west

^^^closer look @ those branches.
Had to use the flash, as it was just after 5 A.M.
I took a couple of cuttings, but will return w/ some rooting compound to try and get some roots going on those ones laying on the ground.
Peace from the creeping jungle, indeed! :D

Gardens are lookin great Highlighter! That is one branchy plant! cover those stems on the ground with some soil and you'll have lots more root mass! Cool structure! :canabis:

I have never seen that bio-tone before! Is that the same as plant tone basically, but with micorrhizae and bacteria?

Hi Highlighter,
Lymes disease, jeez thats one to watch out for, deer ticks & the little bastards are so small you can hardly notice them, when I was in south africa I used to keep me trousers tucked into me socks, and spray em down afterwards. Hope you make a good recovery, it can be serious if you dont get it diagnosed early eneough. What are the symptoms, I shot a deer last fall and noticed one of these fellas on my arm a day later. Venison with herb, munch munch.
Plants are going great now, I shall keep watching with interest.
