Hey ngakpa, glad you found me, always a font of information & entertainment! :D I'll have to check out Zaiko Langa-Langa, but I hear it's "gang" music, lol! Funny, I was just "digitalizing" a King Sunny Ade LP when I 1st read your post yesterday.
What about any known african herbsmen tunes? "Expensive Shit" was played for the seedlings early on, heh heh!
Was that Sam take on THCV in the 'sativa' thread? I know I read it. I'll use the search.

farmaz2, thank you for your informative post! :D:yes: That's exactly what I hoped this thread might generate, african herb stories and grows. ICMag is sorely lacking on more african strain info. So much thanks for your stories!

Went to check on the seedlings today. Blessings were given for a strong grow.

Nigerian IBL

Power Malawi

Congo

Here is a shot of the Congo's a plot #1. All 3 have been topped. The 8 plants here have had some insect damage. I'll be bringing Neem Oil next trip.

You can see the soap shavings on the ground. One of the holes that hasn't been planted yet had a big 'ol deer hoof print in it.

Here's plot #2 . Two congo's on the rgt, btm left, a 'Cantarela', then a nigerian, then a Power Malawi.

See you all next update! :canabis: Peace, HL

Speaking of African weed fables, I have heard often that some South African strains, known as "Dagga" over there, are so overpoweringly potent as to have been blamed for sending many users into the loony bin.

Yeah I know, that story sounds a bit like the theme of that hilarious 1950's anti-smoke movie " Reefer Madness", but I still couldn't help wondering if there are in fact some obscure South African bud varieties that contain so much THC as to be toxic even with moderate use, or if there are in fact some component compounds to those South African strains that maybe do not exist elsewhere and actually are capable of altering brain chemistry enough to push some users over the brink, so to speak.

Sure would like to hear the opinions on this subject from any tokers who have been to Mandela-land ,sampled the local fare, and lived to tell the "Dagga" tale.

Great thread, I am very interested in African sativas and have a few lined up for when I have a new garden. Mano, I really love the looks of that purple banghi, great work. Is that a purple pheno and the others were green?

Here's a couple of shots from the garden this morning. Ther first one is Malawi Gold and the second one is the Swazi Gold. The Swazi is definitely a fast growing strain. It was germed a week or 2 after the Malawi and already a good bit larger.

I'm looking forward to whatching these Africans grow, and really can't wait till harvest to smoke em'.

:hope the photos make it through...sure is taking a long time to load :)

Hola!!!

Oh, finally I remembered this thread, so I check in little late. (I hope thats ok HIghlighter)

Them Power Malawis & Congo IBL are the strains I really look up and must say so far so good, so keep it up Highlighter.

Lamano posted incredible African sativa pic´s (once again...). I think there is so many strains in Africa that arent in general knowledge, so it would be good idea to gather all the info people has from them. Africa got places that got very special climate and I think there are plenty of strains to reveal <- very potent one´s!!!

Greetings all! LMN, Glass Man, and farmaz2, thanks so much for posting pics.
It will be a while before my pics get interesting, so I welcome all inspiring shots of the african persuasion. :D
Meanwhile, here's what hasn't gone out yet.
Inside we have the Nigerian Nightmare's and the back right one is the Nigerian IBL male revegging. The NN on the front left I'm betting is a male w/ that tall, spindly profile.

In the cold frame, plants are looking and growing better. We had temps in the 80's yesterday and the night time temps haven't gotten down past 50 this last week.
In the 1st row, we have the Early Durban's.
the two plants on the left are 'Cantarela's' (black pots), and the other four are the Angolian X Banghi's (green pots).

Have a great weekend everyone! Peace, HL

Thx medjool! As you know, it was a B-day present from Mrs. Highlighter.
The doors are a little chintzy, a wind can blow them closed, so I usually just keep them slid open.

Trouble is, the Winter & Gypsy moths are just hatching and descend down from the oaks right in, and have done some munching. Guessing that's what's happening @ plot #1. Catapillers have done a devastating job of killing off my oak trees the last few yrs. Have 9 dead oaks all around my parking areas that I gotta deal with, probably 2 dozen other dead ones on the property. Oh, my aching back!

It's funny, because of running a grow thread, I'm more paranoid than usual over my plots. (and actually spending $ on beans!)
As you can see @ #1, I have circled the plants w/ garden stakes, as well as the usual soap shavings, but seeing that deer print the other day has me thinking cages, even tho 4 yrs of growing in that spot I've never had a problem.
Maybe some day I'll have a greenhouse like you!

Best wishes to you & yours, HL

Was it hard to germ those Africans??? I germed 3 each of Lesbeki, Angola x Banghi, and Banghi/Uzbeki x Banghi... I ended up with four! 2 Lesbeki's, and 1 each of the others... Kind of tough little buggers to germinate... I think they enjoy higher temps, or something; because these have been the toughest to germ... Things are looking good buddy! I can't wait until Fall... Much love I brethren... JAH bless

Was it hard to germ those Africans???

100% w/ LMN's gear! :D
100% w/ ACE's 'Congo'! :D
80% w/ RM's 'Nigerian Nightmare'
75% w/ 'Early Durban'
71% w/ RM's 'Nigerian IBL'
60% w/ Afropip's 'Power Malawi'

All were presoaked 12-24 hrs w/ a drop of Thrive Alive in water, then into damp paper towels on a tray enclosed in a ziplock in a dark, warm spot.
