Ahh, thank you my friends, such wonderful and inspiring photos!
Thanks for the additional info, esbe!
That Nigerian male looks like he is being intimidated by the nice fat females :)
Looks like you are going all jungle fever on us with your African kick....lol
LOL,Bacchus, all the more intimidated w/ his balls cut off!
Yeah, by the time harvest season comes around, I'll be sporting a dashiki and be curing via "cobs", for that true "black" african weed! :biglaugh:

Vol Funk, LMN is spanish and his english is as good as my spanish, -not so good. Would'nt expect an answer. Talking w/ pictures works for me! :D

Glass Man, me too, heh heh heh! BTW, I see you're new here @ ICMag, let me extend to you a warm welcome!

I just wanted to add this Dubi quote, to help matters a bit.
"Bangi is also a generic term used here in Spain to talk about Congolese sativas."

OK, BACK TO WORK...

OK, BACK TO WORK...

I was busy this weekend getting plot #2 in order. This is an old deer bedding area, and I grew here 2 yrs ago. Had 2 plants in the ground and 3 in grow bags, but deer or some other critter wasn't real happy w/ my invasion, and killed off all but half of a sour diesel. This yr. I'm getting serious w/ this spot. Check it out.
As is:

cleaned up:

holes dug:

Excavation dirt was used to seal the btm of deer fencing. (notice it in the foreground, and that's the left over roll back left. Zip tied to the surrounding scrub oak.
Now the hard part, backpacking my soil in.

^^ Ohh yeah, I'm currently growing on a old deer bedding too. They make a great little flat spot on the hillside :p

Thanks :friends:

I came here a while ago to ask Zamalito about some of the BSC strains that they are working on. I hang out mainly at The Canna Cabanna and the Vibes Collective. I tend to have trouble keeping up with threads at the big boards, but this seems like a great place with a ton of info and knowledgable growers.

As for your deer issues, I have had good luck spreading Blood Meal around the perimeter of my garden. I planted in the intersection of 5 well travelled deer paths and the Blood Meal totally stopped them for the past 2 summers. This year I have tracks in my beds, so I'm thinking my Blood Meal is old and lost it's gorey smell (I left the bag open. Should have wrapped it up.) Anyway I would reccomend giving it a try.

good luck,
GM

I make sure NOT to use blood meal. Really can attract other critters. I have a lot of skunks about, and they'll dig a plant right up if they smell it. Also do the same if using fish emulsion. I do use fish fert, but when I do, I shave up a bar of 'Irish Spring' (or any strong deodorant soap), leaving shavings around plant/ perimeter. Never had a plant eaten by a deer, just haphazard trampling. :frown:
I'm kinda going overboard w/ the deer fencing. Plot #1 I've never had a problem at, and just use the soap shavings as a precaution.

You know the knowledgable peeps! I always take stock in Zam's words.

You are right about blood meal attracting varmin. When I first used it as a soil amendment I also had them dig up my plants, but that's when I decided to spread it all around to confuse their noses and realized that it kept the deer away very well. I was amazed by how nasty smelling that stuff is, learned never to get it on my hands "again" !! :yoinks:

Also, btw, The guy who sent the Malawi beans told me that it really likes a lot of "N", and can handle much more than any other pure sativa which he's grown (and he most only grows sativas).

peace,

that it is not true, the name generic in Spain for the Congolese is congo and not banghi.the banghi is a landrace almost extinguished

Gracias for the clarification, LMN! Wonderful to know you are using the rare congolese 'Banghi'.
It's really a shame there isn't that much info on african genetics here. OG had some great info, mostly by Derrayld, who is sorely missed. :frown:
Hopefully this thread will spark some interest/debate on african genetics.:D

I mentioned in my intro being inspired by the 'Deep Congo' thread. There's been some recent postings there by Charlie Garcia w/ interesting info on the Banghi/congolese genetics. Check it out: "Deep Congo"

The Malawi I'm growing didn't germ well either. Got 9 good seedlings from 35 beans. Don't know how old they were. But M/F ratio is good, got 6 females, 2 males, and 1 still unknown.

Also growing Swazi Gold, got 100% germ rate which them. The Malawi seems to be known for it's high potency though. Not sure about the Swazi's buzz. Supposed to be a very good yielder.

Hola Chaman! Always nice to be graced by your presence.

Hey Glass Man, I bet those African Seeds are pretty old. Are the Swazi Gold from there also?
South African's have decried how the local strains have declined in potency, but there has to be some pure, good lines left.
Reeferman quote:
"I have a new swazi line that just made the nigerian nightmare obsolete"

Today I transplanted 13 plants to their permanent homes. Light rain & overcast, a good day for it. Now for some sun!

No, they came from last year's crop from a friend in the next state. He claimed to get 3 lbs from one, but of course I'm not believing that until I see it for myself.

ps The Admin here seems to have changed the PM rules recently. I can't send, or even access my old PMs from a few weeks ago. Now I get a message which says I must have made 50+ posts to be able to use PM....That seems wierd, especially not being able to view my old PMs. Whatever...

wow nice one Highlighter, best of luck with the grow - if I was you I would stock up on the African tunes too

you could check out

Zaire-Ghana by Zaiko Langa-Langa... Congolese guitar recorded in Ghana in the late '70s... sheer guitar bliss...

hey just for the record, I would check out SamS's posts on terpenes, THCV etc. ... it seems THCV is actually a THC-agonist, without any psychedelic properties of its own... if that is so then the distinctive qualities of Malawi cultivars then be attributed to something else, presumably particular terpenes in combination with THC etc. ... personally I would love to see more info on THCV anyway, specifically how it interacts with THC when taken at the same time (rather than beforehand)

Hi to all, I just did a search on the term "banghi" & came up with this thread. Hope you dont mind me butting in but I have a little story, I was in Kenya in early 80's & managed to buy a finger of banghi of some geezer who didnt really want to part with it. It turned out to be the strongest smoke I've ever had to this day, better than anything ive smoked in thailand, carribean or anywhere else. I only had a No 6 small cigarette & no papers so I squeezed backy out & mixed weed in before stuffing back in. Jeezus, I had to go to bed I thought I had sunstroke. When I came round I still had half a spliff left, so I smoked it & bang went out like a light again. That finger lasted me a month in Kenya. When I returned home, I had to give my rucksack to a friend who was going to New Zealand. Customs there pulled her in, & took her to the baggage train where 2 alsations were trying to attack my rucksack. None could make it out, they had even xrayed it, but still couldnt find anything. She asked me when she returned wat I had kept in the front pocket of my rucksack, "explosives" "no just something that goes BANGI" If I remember it was a ginger reddy colour loads of pistls, & smelt like a cuban cigar but. I hope that your plants have some of that dna in them, youll be in for a treat. African genetics are often overlooked. Good luck with the grow, let me know how you get on.
Hope I havent bored you. Cheers.

Ps, I was in Mombasa when I scored this banghi, so it could have come from anywhere I suppose, but Banghi is the Kenyan term for cannabis. Most of the weed there is very seedy & poor quality, but sometimes its incredible. A friend of mine has some greenhouse strain going, very potent, small spindly whispy buds, big seeds. blows you away though.
Cheers.
