Ghetto odor control, try not to laugh

Now don't laugh...but this is working for me. I have a homemade scrubber in my flower room, but not in my veg room, which is where my drying closet is. So even though I have no smell coming from my flower room....smell is still an issue from the veggings plants and the drying ones. I had the pinesol thingy hooked up for awhile....but it really is a pain. hard to explain if anyone did happen to notice it.

I was on another forum, and someone mentioned they use regular old charcoal bickets( for your grill) in an open bag, and it worked great. Now naturaly lots of folks disputed the claim. Then some people tried it...some even crushing it up and putting it in a vessel with holes, like a 5G paint strainer. I decided to give it a try. But I don't put it in my room....I put it where people may be, which is near my room. My rooms are stealth, but the outside areas around are not. I can honestly say...I just opened a bag of charcoal I had laying around, and put in at the bottom of the stairs. very inconspicuos. Works like a charm. When I open the door to my basement, and start walking down the stairs...there is no smell at all. It actually takes away the basement smell also.

How long one bag will last is unknown at this time. But I am very impressed to this point.

Just thought I'd throw that out there. Instead of flamming my post( for those that like to do that), have an open mind and give it a try. It doesn't cost much, and you can always use the charcoal if you want to grill some steaks.

Cheers,
SH

Nevermind, hasn't your girlfriend wondered why you still have pinesol fountain or bubbling bucket in your house? Seems like the more she is there, the more she would wonder. Maybe this is a new girlfriend and you got rid of the other one when she started noising around? hmmm.

Ummm, no. I got rid of the other girl cuz i didnt want to be with her. She knew of a grow in one place when we were together and after we split up she came over to see that the grow was gone and i was vacating that place. So i cover my bases

The new girl dont know and don tneed to . All that was in that closet were 15 plants i had to harvest. No real grow anymore. So i have no worries. My real grow is a state away from where she lays her head

No women is allowed to nose around anywhere through any of my things. Unless she wants to be shown a quick exit. I been growing herb before the girl and i will be when she is gone. A girl is easily replaced, a grow aint.

I find the pinesol is not very stealth, unless of course you keep it in your garden...but to me, thats not the most effective way to use it. When you are using a deoedrizer that only covers a smell, then in my mind it should be outside the growroom...not in it. If the smell is in my room, then thats fine...it's outside your room, closet, cabinet...whatever, that will get you in trouble.

Having some sort of pinesol and water with air stones or whatever will look rather conspicuos. And the pinesol and water creates alot of bubbles. And I mean alot!

So far a bag of charcoal sitting at the bottom of my stairs has removed all the odors I used to notice when I first went down into my basement each night. There are other things you can try as well...but remember, if you are only coving smell, not removing it...then it needs to be outside your garden where someone might be to notice the odor.

Cheers,
SH

Yes...I have read where people with fairly small gardens have just opened up a bag, and stuck it in the corner. They claims it works great. You can also buy that charcoal for horticulture use. It's supposed to get mixed in your soil to improve your medium. People have used that out in open with great results also.

It's such a small investment to see if it works for anyone, how could anyone that has a bit of an odor problem not be willing to try it, if they can't dish out the big bucks for a scrubber right now?

Cheers,
SH

I'm actually starting to look for a way to cover up the odor from my plant. I am just growing one plant but it was enough to stink up my room. I'm still contemplating whether or not to use the pinesol method due to the potential harmful fumes your constantly taking in. I can see that it might be dangerous in the long run....

just wanted to say thanks for this idea. last few days have been stinky and today we harvested, and i was worried about how much smell would be released into the house and neighborhood. i rigged up a 5 gal bucket filled with water and a full large bottle of original pinesol. dropped the crappy bubbler from an old electric water pipe in it with a fan blowing on it in the tub. The whole house smells so fresh! But i was laughing as i cut the trainwreck, cut it basically smells the same...

well then again, look at it this way, if pine-sol works... tough it out for a few short months until the harvest is over. The carcinogens from pine sol don't have shit on incarceration-ogens in prison. :dueling: ;)

Thanks for posting this. I have people coming to work on the floors at my place in the next few days and...well lets just say that the house smells nice. $5 and now I don't have to worry about that anymore. Have come charcoal lying around as well, can't hurt.

Someone else in this thread mentioned that only guests notice the weed smell. Ain't that the truth. Those in the know always can smell it right away but I never can.

I just took a coffee can and filled it with activated charcoal and hooked it to my exhaust. Works like a charm. No one has smelled a thing coming from my closet yet.

WATCH OUT FOR PHENOLS!!

WATCH OUT FOR PHENOLS!!

This is a great link and there can be much debate about cloaking a smell and removing it from the air. Cost wise they are about equal.

JUST one thing: PINE SOL and LYSOL contain PHENOLS which are quite dangerous.
This is an excerpt from an article that even the EPA agrees with.

"According to the National Institutes of Health, phenol is toxic and people who are hypersensitive to it could experience death or serious side effects at very low exposures. Plus, it is rapidly absorbed and can cause toxicity throughout the entire body. Typically, death and severe toxicity result from phenol's effects on the central nervous system, heart, blood vessels, lungs and kidneys.

Many common household disinfectants contain phenols-caustic and dangerous compounds that could be harming your family's health.

Other symptoms of exposure include:

* Shock
* Delirium
* Coma
* Pulmonary distress
* Phenolic breath
* Scanty/dark urine
* Severe burns and numbness if exposed to the skin
* Death

Further studies have shown that these compounds can cause:

* Damage to respiratory and circulatory systems
* Cardiac damage
* Major damage to the liver, kidneys and eyes after chronic exposure
* Respiratory problems and pneumonia in rats, mice, and guinea pigs
* Nonyl phenol ethoxylate, a common ingredient in laundry detergents and all-purpose cleaners, is banned in Europe, and biodegrades slowly into even more toxic compounds
Some commonly used household products that contain phenols include:

* Household detergents
o Lysol
o Pine-Sol
o Spic-n-Span

ALSO CONSIDER THIS :chin:

I see alot of pet pictures posted. Stoners are generally animal friendly.
Well PHENOLS are particularly bad for DOGS and CATS!!!
"Phenol and Phenol Derivatives, such as Pine-Sol and Lysol

*

Phenol and derivatives such as creosote, naphthol, wood tar and others
*

Especially toxic to cats
*

SYMPTOMS: Muscle twitches, depression, coma, respiratory distress, jaundice. Contact Vet immediately."
:yoinks: :yoinks: :yoinks: :yoinks: :yoinks:

ALL IN ALL DON'T RISK YOUR HEALTH OR THAT OF YOUR FRIENDS,FAMILY, AND PETS .

I personally use charcoal loose in a big rubbermaid tub with lid. My exhaust blows in below the charcoal and rises up through it out into the room through a port in the lid. Works great. cost: Less than $20. Brickets work fine, I break them in half.

PEACE OUT

O MANI PADME OM

As this is just covering the smell, I would think anything that smelled good could be diluted to work in this. I might try this in the section of the cab where I keep my fans, the one thing Im worried about is the smell sticking around on the plants.
