Yes, ErnestHemingway, i have heard of that scenario happening......that exact situation happened to a friend of mine.....his 1000 watt light was in his closet, but the other side of that wall was a closet that belonged to his neighbor.....somehow the light was so powerful that it was seen through tiny cracks in the wall......he got a note saying "i know what you are doing and i advise you to stop" or something like that, so he had to de-construct.....

i'm not sure if any odor was detected, but probably so since there were cracks in the wall.....if your wall is very sturdy and thick, you probably won't have that problem......i don't know the exact situation, though....

:ying: kind regards from guineapig :ying:

Whoever is going to try this, be aware THAT IT FOAMS LIKE A MOFO

I can't run this for longer than 10 minutes, by then the foam is comming out the bucket and going everywhere. I put this outside and let it run, i came back and there was a solid 2meter by 2meter by 1meter hill of foam.

I do not recommend doing that stuff inside, because it can ruin your carpet, hardwood floor etc... If this is meant to be a hoax then it's a bad one. Imagine someone actually ruins his room and plants by doing that.

Use Fabric Softner insted!

Hello all,

The system is sound, I did try using a nice smelling (and strong) fabric softner and the result is great.

It does work!

hey i was thinking of using this pinesol water fountain, but here is my concern.
Hello?

Are people missing the warnings that have been posted throughout this thread that Pine-Sol fumes are DANGEROUS TO LUNG TISSUE?

Please pass the word that Pine-Sol is NOT an acceptable odor-control solution and should not be used.

People are reading this thread linked to from the DIY LINK-O-RAMA thread and they're only seeing the first post or the first page or whatever, long before the warnings.

I guess they figure, it's a simple concept, no need to read ten pages of a thread to understand it.

That's dangerous. Whoever maintains the link thread should either put a disclaimer next to the link or remove it entirely.

I always had a feeling this was dangerous. This tutorial has been delisted from the link-o-rama as requested by hydro-soil.

method itself is not harmful. pine-sol disclaimer effective deterrent, but other materials can be used as substitute for harmful substances.

selection of material(s) used as odor deterrent may be harmful.

if use essential oils/body oils/incense oils, can be effective.

get package of sponges from dollar store, acquire 1/2-2oz. of desired fragrance (pine/lemon, to substitute for pine-sol, if want that scent), or any traditional fragrance, like jasmine, sandalwood, or the berries, like blueberry, etc.

soak sponges in oil(s). place in air flow/inline w/ fans/etc. usually just place on back of fan & thats it.
can also use nylon rope, like wick. bowl of oil, w/ rope tip in bowl. rope then affixed to fan(s). will wick up fragrance/oils and scent(s).

or, can just pour oils into bucket, w/ fan (50-150 cfm), blowing around. drill several holes in bucket so that air in area in drawn thru bucket/mixed w/ fragrance.

a little goes a long way. an ounce of oil should last at least a month w/ this method. chose oil carefully. some can be overwhelming.

hope this helps. enjoy your garden!

THANK YOU! :D

Now..... If someone would like to do a great writeup on how to use this information with essential oils like PDG suggested.... I'm sure Pontiac would be interested in filling that vacancy. :D

thx hydro-soil...

one note... to double volume of oil/fragrance, mix @ 33-50% baby oil. this is standard cut used & will not dilute scent much.

also, make sure sponges (if use sponges) are squeezed so that they are moist, but dont drip, so that oil wont drip over stuff.

whats done here is that 4-6 simple dish washing sponges are soaked in lemon body/essential oil(s).
have 18" fan in center of room, 1' off ground on upside down buckets, facing ceiling (blowing air upwards). sponges are just placed on back of fan. the air suction keeps them there.

room is sealed, w/ ac. entire room smells like lemons.

another set of spenges is placed on condenser side heat exhaust. exhaust from ac smells like lemons.

citrus/berry frangrances seem to work better than the musks like frankincense/myrrh, etc.
some musks seem to almost blend w/ odors of veggies.
citrus scents seem to counter the funk of transpiring plants.

have also used generic industrial 'odor control' solutions from home improvement store. varying degrees of success; because solution actually does lose effectiveness.
also used generic pine cleaner/disinfectant from dollar store, where ingredients were 'pine oil' and disinfectant.

essential oils far more concentrated/longer lasting/effective.

no pics from/of garden, but pretty easy to visualize+replicate w/ materials readily available/already have.
w/ explosion of commercial essential oil/air cleaner/scented candle industry sectors, should be relatively easy to find essential oils.

hope this helps. enjoy your garden!

Feel free to start a new thread that depicts your own safer iteration. Be sure to take many pictures and be as descriptive as possible.

Nevertheless, as because most people just read the first page of a DIY thread, and not the followups, this thread can be of serious risk to people (especially those of us with a "leap before you look" attitude... yea i'll admit it, i'm one of those :D)

I'm with you there Pontiac. I actually did this myself as well and went back to look up health effects when I could feel problems in my lungs. (I was sleeping on the floor in a nearby room)

BAD BAD BAD to not read the whole tech for 'Updates' LOL Be good people, be safe and read everything. :D

what r essential oils i buy these oils from this muslim guy in the city that are made to burn with a candle under em like incense would this work . if its ment to inhale or rub on body i dont see how it can be harmful now pinesol and bleech any cleaner that has a warnin dont inhale would seem like a nice quick fix in an emergency situtation but im not gonna breath it in regularly. no matter what the importance of a scrubber is never left out of my room but occassionaly i get a wiff of dank out of the blue and am considerin runnin somthin like this with scented oils. can fan failter combo is just as important to me as my lights but havin a back up that left ur house smellin great would be nice to. the oils i get are expensive if i burn em all day shits like 14 a bottle .
