As far as fans, I will have two 6" hyper fans (315CFM). Exhaust attached to 6" x 16" carbon filter bring the CFM down to 160 at max power and the other attached to Horti control shroom filter pulling in cold night air (I live a mile off the coast in Santa Barbara, CA, US) and adjusted to maintain proper air flow/exchange.

Got a few questions hoping someone can answer. I want to run the 600w SE hanging vert bare bulb from a remote ballast.

1. Has anyone done this successfully, if so can you link me to the pics?

2. Will I need to change the distance my current setup. its currently about 30-40cm from bulb but I'm guessing the bulb will require a bit more distance?

3. Will I need more cooling?

New room using gavita 1000's

New room using gavita 1000's

I have a setup using 7 gavita 1000's for 73 plants in 5 gal pots. I was hoping that someone, could look at my room and suggest how to place lights optimally. It seems like I could get more lights and plants in than I am currently doing.
My room is L shaped so its a bit hard to describe, I would call it a 111 inch by 216 inch rectangle joined to an 88 by 119 rectangle with the apex of the L measuring 216 by 240 on each leg. The ceiling is 105 inches at its lowest.

For metric conversion:
88 inches is 2.2352
119 is 3.0226
111 is 2.8194
216 is 5.4864

Thanks for the help.

Check out the vertical subforum here on the site. All of your questions can be answered there in detail. Short answer is yes you can easily use a 600SE vertical with remote ballast. Many growers are doing just that. Not sure how many are using the gavita bulb, but the concept remains the same.

30-80cm from bulb to plant is about the effective range for a 600.

More cooling than any other 600? No, but if you are moving up from say a 400, then yes you will need more cooling.

Do some research in the vert forum before you attempt this.

Thanks for the answer and I regularly look at the vert forum but have not seen anyone running gavita's vert. If you know a thread that does can you please link me cheers.

Im using a mix...1 Gavita, 1 E-Papillon,1 1k verticial I have this one in the middle of the 12x12 room. My foot print is 6x12.. Just make sure you have 25-30" from bulb to canopy or you will Scorch your tops.

Hey ninetyOne do you wanna know how to fit more in or how to lay out the 7 I reckon you could nicely fit 11 in the if you can vent it right for the heat........

As for the layout of the seven you may aswell. Just do 4 in the long bit of the L and 3 in the short bit and give yourself a nice but of room to walk/work if you wanna know how to put more in let me know I will post u up a pic

I know you are supposed to light a room but how far apart from each bulb should I space them to maximize yield?

Would you say running them at the 750 watt setting would be comparable to a Lumatek running at the 1,000 setting?

How high from the canopy do I have to be when using the 750 watt setting?

How many actual watts are being used at the 750 watt and 1000 watt setting?

Im currently doing the 3 by 4 layout with seven, it just seems like I could get more lights and plants in the room. I'd be very interested In how you suggest to place eleven lights, and a pic would be awesome

Here is the message I got from Gavita ,,,,

We were the first to bring the double ended lamp to the market, with a Philips approved fixture and electronics, suitable for 240V. We are very aware of the frequency, which is actually higher than 100 kHz. The e-papillon uses the electronics we used in our first fixture. It is not a Philips fixture or Philips electronics, basically is it a copy of our fixture (up to the knob and the dim values) with a different reflector. It's always flattering when you are copied, keeps you sharp, and it is a sign you have something really good.

I know that many ballast manufacturers will claim that they fire a double ended lamp, but they do not state whether it is stable and it is certainly not warranted by Philips. The Philips lamps only have warranty when used in a Philips approved fixture.

We state in all our communication, and even on the lamp sleeve that it is only approved for use in a pro-line fixture, not for a normal ballast. Distributors should take their responsibility as well. Unfortunately many shops rather sell their cheap ballast or the one they make a better margin on.

The specific frequency is irrelevant for the user, we do not want to complicate things too much. The shop has a task in advising the customer. Unfortunately many shops are not in business for giving good advise.

Best regards, met vriendelijke groet,

What you missed from my post is the SE (single ended) gavita bulbs are nothing special. They are high quality bulbs yes, much better than a 10 dollar Chinese knock off, but as far as setting up a room to grow with them, it's no different from any other 600w bulb. Therefore any information pertaining to setting up vert with any 600w bulb is applicable to you. The DE (double ended) gavita bulb being discussed in this thread is a different monster when compared to other SE style 1000w bulbs, but that has no effect on you using a 600. Two completely different bulbs.
