FRIENDinDEED,
you are looking at the trichomes correctly, the head/top is the portion which you will look for first clouding and later ambering. You will have to decide when to harvest based on your own personal preferences (head/body) and the average maturity of the trichomes. You have the option of selective harvesting if some of the buds are looking more ripe than others.

KillerWeed
but arent the trichs supposed to turn cloudy b4 they turn amber? are those tops of the trichome stalks, that turned amber before turning cloudy, light sensitive or something?

i guess i am looking a the right thing, but is the "progression" i am looking at the correct thing? if that was an understandable question. and as far as the type of high i was lookin for, i wanted to get a pretty even type, but more so on the head than body, but i cant tell whats what!?!? for me to get that middle ground, shouldnt they be the least bit cloudy b4 turning amber?! atleast thats what i have read they were supposed to do. . . thats the progression: clear - cloudy - amber. not : clear - amber!(wtf?)

I am pretty sure there still can be some clear trichs when some start turning amber. My buddy flowered his ssh for 9-10 weeks. When he ran them ten weeks it was way more couchlock then nine weeks. He never checked the trichs but then again he already had an intimate relationship with his pheno.

You might be able to slit open the bottom of the bags and place them in pots. That way there shouldn't be any transplant shock. Just a thought.
O..M..G.. YOU ARE A FU-CKIN GENIUS!!!! i swear i never thought of that!!!!! i mean i dont have pots that big, but i can go ahead and get more grow bags and transplant that way. fill the new bags with the difference of soil, so when i transplant to the new bag, they will be at the top of the bag!!!!!! and its not like ive missed out on any flowering time as these friggin things take forever and a damned day to finish, SHEESH!!!!

fu ckin genius!!!!!!!!!!

CHUBBY, DUDE, YOU GOTTA RIDE THIS ONE OUT WITH ME MAN, TAG THE THREAD, TAG THE THREAD PLEASE!!!!!!!LMAO, I SWEAR I WOULD SEND YOU AN OUNCE IF I COULD (I DO PLAN TO GIFT MY FIRST GROW FOR REAL THOUGH)

Glad i could help you out man! Bag into bag would definitely work great. Might wanna tape around the bags once they are transplanted that way they will sit a lil more stable and upright. I will be following this thread for sure man. I love the SSH!

HEY CHUBBY : it went as well as expected, since it was first time endeavor, the first one wasnt too great , i tried cutting the bottom off thinking it would just stay one big mass. . .needless to say i lost alotta soil and in the end it didnt even looked like i transplanted anything (i laughed for atleast 10 minutes afterwards). the second one was a little better i decided to cut the bag from one side to the other, to get kinda of a "egg cracking in half" sort of thing going, that went a lil better, except having to dig out the bag was a byatch!!!! ( each time i filled the new bag half way with new soil BTW)

third time seemed to be the charm! what i did was fill the new bag half way with soil, then roll the sides down, i then cut the bottom of the bag off but allot lower to the bottom than the first time (first time i cut about an inch above the bottom of the bag), i placed the freshly cut bag on top of the new bag and then gently slid the bottom of the old bag out, and raised the sides of the new bag over the outside of the old bag. . . worked like a charm!!!
ok will be back with those update pics!!!!

alright as promised, every Friday until chop day, updates!!!

:joint: well nothing new to report honestly, accept they are doing fine. after i transplanted to new bags, to give the root zone more room to "do its thing", i noticed that the soil in the bags was cols as hell, so now i am thinking maybe i haven't seen any real progress due to them being frozen to some degree? who knows, but now i wanna find a way to get some sort of heat in there. i took the lil fan out, since it wasn't helping heat the place up at all!! temps are real low here i would say in the hi 50's to low 60's here in the north. this is getting scary :puppydoge

:joint: the three in the back are the ones i transplanted from right to left:

they are all the same size but as you can see the one on the far left came out the better for the transfer.

:joint: and of course the family shot:

:rasta:now i have something special for you all! i have been busy with my microscope and my digital camera (yes tinkering is my thing) and came up with some pretty interesting shots of those trich's i yammer on about so much, so feast your eyes, i guess you could call these trichome porn? lmao

:rasta:these were taken with the 8x magnifying glass that comes with the scope at the back of it:

:rasta:these were taken with the actual scope, it was a labor of love, but after hanging in there and getting the jist of it, i finally kept the damned thing still enough to get these:

:rasta:and last but not least:

:joint: OBSERVATIONS: only thing i have noticed so far is no more productions. it seems all things have come to a halt and i can only blame the temps where the cab is, there is no insulation and it will get cold in there, so there is nothing i can do about that. i have to find a way to heat up the cab itself, somehow. thats even if the cold is the reason why there is no trich degrading going on.

there are some fan leaves close to the top of the main cola that seem to be brittle to some degree, i looked a them and they have the small trichome tops all over them, needless to say i really understand why others keep leaves and stems for alter use. . .cause theres a lotta shyt to use there !!!lol

i was gonna snag another bud but, i wanna bet the full affect. if anything you all can notice how the trichs are clear and hence my dilemma in trying to figure out whats going on with some turning full on amber and others staying crystal clear, very strange to me.

anyway people enjoy and until 11/9/07

Yup sounds like the third time was the charm. Its all about trial and error and it was good that you laughed at the first transplant you goofed up on. Its better then being all bitter about it.

FRIENDinDEED,
I can't tell from the pictures of your grow space, but do you have your plants elevated off of the cold floor? If you don't, try to get your hands on some styrofoam sheets and make about a 1 or 2" layer of styrofoam under your plants. You can check your local furniture and appliance stores to see if they have left over packing material, or alternative you can go to Lowes and pick up a 4'x8'x2" EPS sheet (in the plywood/building supply section) it is often used in stucco applications or as an under foundation slab insulator. Another trick to maintain higher temps during the dark period is to place water jugs in the grow space, but it looks like your spot is full :). Cooler temps at night should encourage your plants to express any purple tendencies that their genes contain :).

I agree that macro shots can be a pain without the right tools, but I appreciate the effort. It looks like you have some clouding of the trichomes and the third microscope shot seems to show some ambering, but I can't tell for sure due to the further away trichomes not being in the field of focus.

A quick macroshot I took with a 10x loupe.

:joint: i just wanted to note a lil something i noticed at the grow shop the other day. as i go into the store, there is this guy already at the counter talking to the clerk about lighting and such. shirt, tie, slacks shoes,... .BMW. so it made me wonder how long before we get this medicine legalized? now i am off to the side looking at the FF:pOM and trying to decide whether i should get it or not, and looking at the liquid nutes thinking bout whether i should stock up now on nutes for the up coming hydro grow i plan to do. so BMW (the customer) is kinda asking certain questions, and of course the clerk is not a fool in his line of work by picking up on his symmantic winking and nodding.

then i thought, here it is an black-american buisness man, an italian-american plain joe are all buying supplies for their own personal canna-grows (now mind you, i think all of this in my mind, i have no clue as to what they are really up to) and not it was all peaceful. no baggies, guns, sirens wizzing by, suspicious looks and code words, just simple intellectual dialog about growing plants (cannabis i hope), so why is it really why "they" cant just make it legal, since we are going to win this war anyway?

anyway, just the ramblings of the hippie in my heart, its too bad hes always over shadowed by the stoner that wants to get lifted already!!! :rasta:

i would think so, after all that time, it would get better with age. as much as i rant about it being the longest damned thing i have ever grown, i still cant get over how amazing a plant it really is. aroma, durability, trichome production its all jsut really blowing my mind.

i appreciate all the info i am getting about this strain, as it is beginning to be of great interest to me now. seems as though there was alota hoopla over this thing and i guess many other strains, so just want a heads up as to anything else i may have to deal with in the future when say ordering more seeds of a different type.

when you say the privilege, do you mean smoke or know of the growers?

You would be surprised of how many different types of people grow to have their own smoke. My mom is planning her first grow to do with my grandma. Kinda funny but they will do great at it i think because they both are super green thumbs.

MY CONFESSION. . .

MY CONFESSION. . .

ok i have to be honest and say that i broke a cardinal rule as a grower that i imposed on myself. i promised that i wasn't gonna touch them or blaze anything but my own until it was time for harvest and once they were cured. but here is what led me to this dastardly deed. . . a friend of mine is always giving me a lil taste here and there. the other day, he tells me that hes got lil something he wanted me to try and see if i like it, a guy he knows really well is going to jail and gave him a lb. and told him" do what you want with it" since he wont need it. so i roll it in what i have a the time (strawberry wrap), it was good but NOTHING compared to the elitist strains i have grown accustomed to. so i decide to snip a lil "taste" from my own garden to tide me over. so the story goes. . .

i get a nice bud from off the tree but not too big i dont wanna be greedy

of course now i need to get to trimming my ill gotten gains of impatience, and acquire the necessary accoutrement's (notice how i am trying to go for the gentleman's thief thing here! lmao)

and set up shop

pull off the big leaves first by hand

then trim like its the last steak on earth!!

and viola! the finished product!

a small staple for a hook, to dry upon

and save the trimmings to add to the final trimmings for the ISO wash in the end

now that i have logged my sinful debauchery, i feel better now that i have purged!!!! now i give you a very small token of my appreciation in the form of what i call trichome porn. . . .

TRICHOME PORN!!!

TRICHOME PORN!!!

my "schtick" is "using what you have on hand to get the job done, and if you dont have it, make it!" so needless to say, i have become a lil more comfortable with the camera/microscope setup i have been using to take trichome shots. the craft seems to be getting better as time goes and i love it. so here are your trichome shots as promised. please enjoy!
