you are looking at the trichomes correctly, the head/top is the portion which you will look for first clouding and later ambering. You will have to decide when to harvest based on your own personal preferences (head/body) and the average maturity of the trichomes. You have the option of selective harvesting if some of the buds are looking more ripe than others.

i guess i am looking a the right thing, but is the "progression" i am looking at the correct thing? if that was an understandable question. and as far as the type of high i was lookin for, i wanted to get a pretty even type, but more so on the head than body, but i cant tell whats what!?!? for me to get that middle ground, shouldnt they be the least bit cloudy b4 turning amber?! atleast thats what i have read they were supposed to do. . . thats the progression: clear - cloudy - amber. not : clear - amber!(wtf?)
