useless - i was gonna say 1/4 c per cu ft. but ive always watered it in. maybe ill toss some in there this time

Those beds look awesome man. What did u use for the fabric? And are u saying u cover the bottom of the beds in metal fencing for support?

bed liner is a pre made 4x8' geo planter that i just neatly fold to fit the 4x7 frame. yes metal fence over the wood to help more. ill have more pics in a day or two when i actually do all this crap... slow ass shop.

Can't wait to see the goodies for your soil mix. I just started using organic soil and so far I have to say it's the easiest method I have ever used!! Of course my first plant in the mix is only a couple weeks into bloom but so far I've been using just straight water and it looks fukn fantastic! Sure beats the hell outta mixing nutes n shit.

im telling you! im still a little nervous about mixing a batch and getting right into it, but theres no better way to get your dirt going. im treating the first round in the new bed like im cooking a batch of dirt that i happen to have a few plants in... well see. ive got the recipe written out but im not gonna post it until i mix ecerything, in case i do some tweaking in the heat of the moment

i recently changed my mix too. tweak. tweak.

the 1/3 cup per cubic foot of epsom sounds right.
was reading at tomatoville (tomato forum) people using 3 cup per 30 gal mix.

in my case, the container is 3 cu ft total volume.

id go with 2/3 cup to 1 cup of epsom.

still , watering in just as good.

i went 1 cu ft less on the rice hulls (aeration) and 1 cu ft extra on coir, because my beds are fabric and i want them to retain moisture a bit more. if i was using plastic pots id go 33-33-33% base-compost-aeration.

ive stated a few times, ideally you would let this soil cook for 4-8 weeks but im planting into it directly after mixing. im not too sure how it will play out on the first run in it, after that it will be fully prepped.

ive been busy as shit and im exhausted. bought an old troy bilt tiller and tilled a 30 x 30 garden. dusted it with most of the amendments above and several bags of leaves, and tilled it again. hung the lazy lightning male... oh and mixed two kiddie pools of soil

sry about the hps... this is just the base minus the rice hulls and growstones before i mixed it

Looks great dude! I'm curious to see how it plays out planting immediately in it too. Also, after a run, what amounts do you reamend with?

Planting directly will probably be rough for 10 to 15 days, but after that they should do fine, when I do I will see some discoloration in the stems and rather pale look to them for a minute but they usually just take off about the same time as they would in the mix that had time to break down. Only difference is they may temp lock up or look rough instead of remaining healthy but not taking off until they root the pot out some.

So they will take off about the same time they normally would but may look rough during the idle period, where they are busy shooting new roots, When I do allow the soil time to break down, The plants still usually don't do much for the first 7 to 14 days but they remain healthy and do grow some. When I go directly into they can look a little rough and look like they are locking up, but within the same time period they usually shoot healthy new growth and take off as usual.

I'll be watching your mix looks interesting.

i fully expect them to get pretty weird for at least 14 days, im hoping they pull out after. im confident enough to give it a whack obviously. usually when i transplant they stall for 2-3 days before vigorous growth begins.
vanilla - i wont actually reamend this at all. after the first round ill top dress with kelp, alfalfa, and seabird guano. if i do mix this bed after this run it will be to add another bag of growstones. after inspecting the turned kiddie pools tonight i felt that may be needed. but im putting it in the bed tomorrow night and hopefully trans planting tomorrow too. if i really want the extra stones after i shovel it all into the bed ill get some monday and put them in then.

wasgedn - the beds are 28 cubic feet of soil each. i have 2 total

whats the brand of those crutons?

i bought 3 bricks. tried 50/50 with my base mix.
plants looked terrible & then nearly died. maybe 3 rounds ago.
cost me nugz, time in veg. why not just use stones? root cant grow through those crutons.
wound up using the other 2 blocks to raise plants off the floor.

i do have 70gals of coco with rockwool & hail crutons mixed in. its amended.
using that on the last run & the next several.

i just used the coco croutons as a different texture, i requested chips but whatever. they will break down eventually. its only 1/15th of the mix. ill check the brand tomorrow, maybe "grow it!" i think?
