Anyone in Dade County.. im sure a few. Anyway im in Homestead indoor grower though. Had a Florida related question. At what time must we have plants outside in our area? May 1st? I thought Florida was 12/12 light cycle all year round.

yeah in florida summer a sealed room with a dedicated a/c is the way to go.
not only because of humidity and temps but our lil island is a bug breeding ground as well. the little bastages WILL hunt down any unsecured grow and set up a buffet.
also the res temps in your hydro setup will need to be controled.

hope this helps

Thanks Dag It helps a lot! I figured I would need seroius climate control. This bag seed weed will be about done by holloween and cooler weather. So I have till spring to work out the details. :woohoo:

I need to work Ya'll for a little more AC info. I gather I want A window AC unit with an outside vent setting, and will restart after a power loss or on a timer setup. Before I start shopping, any suggestions on brands/models available in our area? Thanks!

I use a goldstar 5000 btu window unit from the local home depot. Not electronic so it will restart and pretty efficient for a small job...

Eventually the room will be 10 by 10 so I will need a unit big anough for the task. So the electronic types won't restart unless designed to do so right? Any other aspects I want to look for? This fall and winter will offer nice cool temps and I want a unit that will vent from outside. But I guess I could use other means. I realize This is a trial and error situation. The main 2 things I guess is the unit needs to be big anough to handle the high temps and have a timer or be able to restart on it's own.
Thanks again!

How many watts of HID are you going to run in there? A few thousand watts will make a lot of heat, you should keep in mind that window units are much less efficient because they skimp on the size of the coils so they don't get as much heat transfer. They don't last as long either. If you're concerned about ease of installation, you could go with a full size, high-efficiency portable unit.

Thanks for the reply Tropical, I plan 2, 1k lights .I have a line on several Hydrofarm lights that can be vented. Over time I plan a sealed room setup but will take some time to get it all together. Yes I want a window unit at this time for ease and other possible future uses. I'm looking at a unit with a 3/6/12 hour timer auto start and preset thermostat at 10K btu's. I may be able to take advantage of this timer feature. Now I'm using 500 watts over 5 plants. So I have a ways to go still.

Tropical, My last post was lacking info. Stage two will be 12 plants under a 1k lamp with mover. This will take up a little over a 3rd of this 10 by 10 room. I may section this off. Anything beyond this will be considered if and when.
The AC hunt continues, So far I get that "deer in the headlights" look from every sales person when I ask specifics!

venting to the outside got me 2 years in bradford. vent into a room, or a formulated area where you can carbon scrub the vented air from the a/c exhaust, then vent that clean air outside, and just buy a new a/c every year. Peace, fellow tropical farmer
