UPDATE DAY 1 - 12/12!!

UPDATE DAY 1 - 12/12!!

Good morning everyone. Here's the first update of the plants as they have been flipped into flower phase. As I stated in an earlier post, I turned off the lights for a total dark period for 24 hours. I have read in books and seen in many threads where this technique helps the plants get into flower quicker.

First off, let me begin by saying that all this occurred last Tuesday evening. So, Wednesday night at 8pm, the lights went back on with the brand new 400 watt Hortilux EYE HPS EN bulbs installed. From that point the timer has been set for 12/12 from 8pm - 8am. Here are some shots of the plants after the 24 hour dark period.

Garden Shots:

Preflowers started to show a few weeks ago and by judging (which I sure as hell hope I'm right) it looks like I have 5 out of 12 females and 4 of 12 males. The males I am sure of I have kept in their 1.5 gallon buckets in the Mother Cabinet and have cut the lights back to 12/12 in there as well. Here's a shot of them.

These four plants are the three POK Kush x Critical Masses and my Apollo Mist 3. Why keep the males instead of ditching them, you ask? Well, it's basically an experiment to test my abilities to judge preflowers. Before I kill them off, I want to see them sex during flower to make sure I'm right. They are seperated from my known females, so pollination is guarded against. Rest assured that once they have shown their true colors, they will be discarded of accordingly.

My known females are as follows:

Blue Thunder #1 (my Blueberry Pheno)
Blue Thunder #3
Blue Thunder #4
Blue Thunder #5
Apollo Mist #1 (my best looking plant IMHO)

Again the known males are:

All three POK Kush x Critical Mass
Apollo Mist #3

It's a bummer about the Critical Mass. I was so looking forward to at least one female of this strain but, alas, such is not to be. I thought about trying this strain again (germ more beans) when I take clones from my females but decided against it. I guess I'm just disappointed with them, so on to other hopefully better strains (more on that in a moment). There are still three as yet unidentified plants that I have yet to determine their sex. These are Blue Thunder #2, Apollo Mist #2 and Apollo Mist #4. Although they are looking rather masculine to me, I have let them go into bloom with my ladies with a cautious eye peeled as we progress. I'll skip pics of those and just go straight to the ladies.

All five ladies are quite bushy from the LST and I have been pinching the tops to get the branches and canopies as even as possible. After I flipped the lights, I started backing off a bit on the veg nutes in preparation for bloom. However, I am continuing the veg feedings for one week to help with stretch.

I have had to wait to take clones because of my rather agressive pruning ala PistilWhipt's "Prune Along" thread over at CW. While the plants have responded well to the agressive pruning, I did not keep any of the prunings for clones as I was not ready to do so. As a result, I have not pruned again and many shoots have taken off and I will be pruning again on Wednesday, at which time I will try to root the cuttings. I know it's a bit late for it but I think that it will be alright as the plants won't be fully into bloom at that point and I will be vegging the clones for some sixty days while the donor plants finish blooming anyway. So, if it takes a while for them to revert back into veg, then that will be alright but I just can't believe that there will be that much of a delay. I could be wrong though  .

Since I had such rotten luck with the AK47 x C99 (only two germed and neither one made it) and the POK Kush x Critical Mass, I decided to start a couple of new strains from my winning of the Weekly Seed Lottery (thanks so much Dutchgrown!). I have decided to start 4 - Sour Mist (Resdog - Sour Diesel x Kali Mist) and Kalichakra (Mandala Seeds - Sativa).

So, into the Black Tea soak the beans went last Tuesday night for an overnight soak in the refridgerator.

After soaking all night in the tea mix, I gently washed them with cool tap water and planted them about 1/4" deep in Rapid Rooters that had been soaked all night in a solution of distilled water, H202 and a tiny bit of Superthrive.

Well, it's been four days and 5 out of 8 have broken ground (or broken sponge, so to speak :biglaugh: ). So far, three Sour Mist's and two Kalichakra's have appeared. I left the heat mat on a little long on Friday and temps inside the humidity dome got up to 99 degrees for a short while. I freaked out and turned it off. I'm glad to see that it didn't cook the beans. I'll show pics of the new babies in the next couple of days but I will likely cover these plants in the breeder's forums instead of on this thread. For those of you who are interested, be looking for those upcoming threads!

I just got my Cyclestat 4 timer and my Optimum Growth CO2 regulator, so I will be implementing the CO2 supplementation tomorrow or Tuesday at the latest. Wednesday I will be doing the last heavy pruning and taking my clones. I figure that I will be able to tell the sex of the eight plants currently in flower for sure by this time next week. Once I do this, I will eliminate all the males and transplant the remaining females into their 5 gallon pots where they will remain until harvest.

Should be interesting to see their progress over the next couple of weeks. I will be taking more pics when I prune on Wednesday and I'll get them U/L'd as quick as possible. Thanks again for stopping by everyone! Peace, pot and keep it green!! :canabis: :friends:

Dank brother

if you take the clones now they will be fine, taking clones is okay up to any time before the initial budset, after that you're going to be fighting a losing battle but it can be done.

all your plants look real good and healthy, real proud of you bro!

Apollo mist #1 and blue thunder #4 both look real real good ;) keep the good times rollin

Amen brotha! Keep it up bro. It's kinda cool that we're both doing our first grows here at the same time..Only problem is I've got my shit in a safehouse grow and have an agreement that after I veg them and put them outdoors, the light comes down. After seeing what I've done thus far though, I'm working on a plan B. Just can't stand the thought of not having any buds growing indoors as well. Hell bro, October is too damn far away to wait for my shit to finish...We'll see..Take care and good luck bro, I'm hanging around for the finish on this grow of yours. Peace. :canabis: TJ

RB, its looken tight, some of those males even look nice. I would pick maybe the best of the bunch and prune it down to one branch and put a bag (plasctic clear) and maybe try to collect some pollen for isolated breeding for more seeds or kill those males for the sinsemila or your gonna have 4 billion spermes floaten around ,peace out

Hey usawontstopme - Thanks for checking in! Don't worry, I got out my shears just last week and . . . CHOP CHOP . . . we got some naked ladies get ready to show us their private parts!! :biglaugh:

Thanks, TJ! Yes, I have been very blessed to have quite a few visitors to my thread since it started. A heart-felts thanks goes out to all of you for embracing this "newbie"! And, believe me Tokin Joe, I bare my mistakes for the world to see. Hopefully, thanks to the guidance of everyone here, I'll correct those mistake and bring homes some buds that my mentors will be proud of !! :friends:

Rule, my brotha, once again if you ask you shall receive! Initial budset shots are about to be uploaded!

Danimal, Danimal, Danimal! What am I gonna do with you? :biglaugh: Just 'cause you grow the best bud in LA doesn't earn you the right to pluck my little virgin!! ;) :biglaugh:

Welcome to my humble little grow thread, B is Me! I chose the latter option. The males are HIST-O-RY! I'm too new to try any amateur breeding. I wanna get some skills down growing a few strains to see what I like, then (MAAAYYYBBBEEE) give it a little go. It'll have to wait for me to move somewhere where I can keep my males seperate from the biatches but thanks for the great advice! Keep it comin', man!!

Alrighty folks! The much awaited first budshots. Since the last update, I have
determined that the five plants I had identified as female were, in fact, the only females! The other three plants that I kept in flower with the ladies all showed the balls, so I hacked 'em down!

Last week I installed the CO2 system and, man, they plants just took off! They really do love the stuff. Rather than running the CO2 tube through the canopy with small holes in it, I stuck the end of the tube up in the back of the higher oscillating fan and it just blows it down over the canopy.

Like a dumbass, I forgot to turn the photosensor switch on the Cyclestat 4 to "on" and the entire tank depleted itself in two days. I went and got another tank and turn it to "on" and things seem to be going swimmingly! Amazing what happens when you actually do things right!! :bashhead:

As I stated in my last update, I fed the plants twice with a significantly reduced watering of veg nutes until the night before I took clones, when they received just PH'd water with a little superthrive. Tech Mike at Advanced Nutrients told me that when you take clones you want to reduce the nitrogen to the plants. In other words, starve them a bit so that they won't have as much food to photosynthesize and develop foliage. He says this makes the cutting focus it's energy on root development. Hmmm, sounded reasonable to me, so that's what I did.

So, last Wednesday night, I took my very first clone!

I'm so proud! Can we get a moment of silence in honor of this blessed event? :biglaugh: I ended up taking 23 clones in all. I took five of each female with the exception of Blue Thunder #5. She only had three good candidates.

That last pic was as of tonight. They are five days in. The only thing I have given them is PH'd spring water with just a drop of superthrive. When I cut the clones off of the donor plant, I recut the stem under water to prevent an air embulism and then soaked it really well in Clonex and, finally, inserted them into Rapid Rooters. I've kept the dome misted and I've lightly wet the Rapid Rooter if they look/feel dry. I've lost three so far but the rest look like they could make it. While some aren't standing straight up, they are still green and look like they're trying at least. If 20 of the 23 make it, I will consider my first attempt at cloning an outstanding success! Wish me luck here, will ya?!? :biglaugh:

After I took the clones, I pruned the hell outta them again as per PistilWhipt's "Prune Along" method over at CW. Jesus, is that unnerving to do. It really strips the meat off of the bones, so to speak, and leaves them looking literally naked. However, when you see the massive colas that PistilWhipt's methods develop, it will remove all doubts. Here's some shots taken the night of the pruning of the girls that shows how naked they are. Notice that all of the shoots at each internode have been removed all the way up to the top two or three nodes.

Here you can see just how sparse this Blue Thunder looks after the pruning

Here you can see what was actually removed from the bottom of the plant all the way to the top three nodes. I didn't prune the top two or three.

That brings us to current. Just last night the ladies received their first bloom nutes. Here's a list of what I'm using during bloom:

Advanced Nutrients 2+program

Micro
Grow
Bloom
Mother Earth Tea (Bloom)
Fulvic Acid
Humic Acid
Barricade
Carboload (Liquid)
Sensizym
Piranha
Tarantula
Voodoo Juice
Bud Blood
and a little Revive to help them over any stress

They really shot up last night as a result of their feeding. The overall height is now between 20-28" with all but one being near or about 28". They grew two inches just last night alone! Here's some full shots of the individual plants.

Apollo Mist #1

Blue Thunder #1

Blue Thunder #2

Blue Thunder #3

Blue Thunder #4

Blue Thunder #5

They are overall very healthy looking and quite vigorous but, again, you can see just how naked they look from they pruning. Everyone keeps telling me to be patient as the pruning will definitely pay off.
