Finish drying my bud in the freezer in my kitchen?!?

NEVER use food-safe plastic vacuum bags as they will fuck up the taste of the herb and ruin the experience!!!!! Use vac-seal mylar instead!!!!

Why do you keep saying this? Do you buy your supplies at the 99 cent store? Seriously.. Vac bags ruin bud..? Hey maybe the dispos around here are using the same poison Chinese plastic as you did, cuz their bud tastes like plastic. Foodsaver works fine.

I remember when people started using mylar, it attracts dust. Dont use mylar, it attracts dust, static electricity!

Almost positive someone used the term "space bag" to describe vac bags, and someone as a result literally went to Harbor freight and bought blanket storage bags instead of food sealer material. Cuz food grade Ziploc isn't going to off gas... No way no how!

I check the "Cannabis Harvesting & Processing" forum fairly often to see whats going on in this thread and the Cob Curing thread, and anything new and interesting that might pop up. This thread has been stuck on 419 replies for a few days and I can't stand it any longer so here is post 420.

Does anyone do both methods? Cob and Freezer curing? I like to do both, end up with quite different products for more variety in effects, flavors, odors, etc.

Dude have you done a side by side, mylar vs plastic? Untill then stfu (sorry but it had a major influence on the quality of the product and your condescending reaction annoyed me)... I used plastic bags from the brand princess, a well known brand an no china crap.

I dont know if it was cuz of off gassing or whatever, but all the buds in plastic vac seal bags did not taste as they smelled, which was wonderful. Now that I use mylar my weed tastes normal again (like the smell).

I did side by side a few times so I am sure of what I am saying.

I always store my herb in mylar bags (doesnt necessarily needs to be vac sealed for the freezer) and it stays fresh for years. The oldest pack I opened had been in the freezer for 5 years and still as fresh and taste as the day it went in.

But I never keep my weed in the freezer without packaging, I dry or cure (depends) till a certain WOW point and then I freeze.

Last paragraph, good tip.
Was just about to get a new roll of food safe plastic,
Recently had a pack sent to me
With the Vac seal mylar , worked real well.
Vac seal mylar for the win!

If I store long term I leave the bud on the branches
(Only remove non frosty fan leaves at harvest)
And keep in big plastic totes/boxes.
If it has a good seal it will stay fresh for month's.
(But you have to dry it first)

That is also how I do it, but when I have a lot I know for example that certain strains will be very good after 1-3 months and then I manicure and if needed let the buds air out a bit in a closed jar for 1-7 days so the smell become loud and then I freeze once they are super smooth and taste like the smell with good effect. Some strains can cure longer this way. I seal them and store them in vac seal mylar. I am now trimming some 3 months cured happy brother, white jones and amnesia(moppel cut). Smells are nice, buds are sticky and tasty and smooth. I get much nicer results then ith jars this way.

But yeah vac seal mylar rules, never using plastic again after multiple side by sides

So in my experience with drying buds ive done it a few different ways. I'm sure you may have heard many ppl say "oh just keep your temp at 65°f and like 50-60rh" what they dont tell you is how much and what sort of space you have. Ive used a 105 dehu and some shitty occilating fans in a 9×9 space w 9ft cielings. we AS A TEAM loaded that bitch with 5 rows with them spaced out so we could get like 5 or 6 lines in each row (now this is inside not outside carport status lol) filled that shit to the top and kept a log of temp and rh for HOWEVER LONG IT TAKES NO MORE NO LESS some ppl want to put a time limit on shit but you just have to pay close attention and the plant will love you. Rosenthal is correct snap the stem and hear it, your good. Curimg is a whole other thing. We never kept it long enough to 100% say its cured. ;) gotta go for now id love to share more but I have beer to drink
Much love hope this was a fun read. Peace

I just vacuum sealed a bud that I freshly harvested and put in right in the fridge, let's see how that turns out. Just a little experiment.
I was thinking I could put freshly harvested bud right in the freezer without vacuum and it will dry through sublimation?

Are you planning on drying and curing the freshly harvested, vacuum sealed bud at a later date?

I'm curious how this turns out. I've not put freshly harvested buds in the freezer, but I have put buds that were less dry than usual in the freezer. I felt it turned out fine, it just took much longer to reach the point where it was good to smoke.

Just read through this whole thing, and think I will give it a go here in about 3 weeks. Any updates or tips I should know about?

Once you've harvested and your buds are dry enough to go in the freezer, follow the steps from the beginning of this thread. I'm still doing the same thing, getting stellar and consistent results going on almost 8 years. I have small stash in the freezer now, 2+ years old and smokes as good now as ever.

My one tip --> Harvest when your plants are ready, do not chop early.

Please come back and share your experience, good luck!

Thanks jpg. Chop date for my critical kush will be next thurs Aug 2. I will hang dry whole branches till stems almost snap ( which should take about 10 days for me) and then into a box in my freezer. I was thinking leaving it in there for four weeks, what do you suggest? Also should I final trim before sticking them in the freezer or just remove larger leaves and leave the sugar leaves alone till the buds are done? I appreciate your help and thanks for creating this awesome thread!

Hey JPG, did you ever find out (the science) as to what happens with the chlorophyll or the "curing, done by a "Freezer cure?" This is a reply from a person on another form when I recommended the "Freezer cure."
"Freezing may be a very good way to preserve fresh cannabis, by just removing the water. But freezing does not allow the integrated chemical, enzymatic and microbial breakdown of unwanted materials, such as chlorophyll and other dead plant cell debris (proteins, nucleic acids, lipids, sugars/carbohydrates, etc.), that we call 'curing.'"

I swear I'd just leave my buds in a brown paper bag or on a card board box before freeze drying .....just my opinion and choice

That is a wine fridge. Decent ones can be had for under $200. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Whynter-28-Bottle-Thermoelectric-Wine-Cooler-WC-28S/202555751

Of course, you can spend a lot more if you'd like https://www.homedepot.com/p/Vinotem...ouch-Screen-Wine-Cooler-VT-122TS-2Z/204078209

Upon further review, it is a bit more. It also controls humidity and not just temp. And it's not too pricey. Interesting...

. Question about what is most popular machine for dry trimming?

I used to use trimming machines, but I got wise, those trimmers are really rough on bud, now I use a different method I hire 20 head banging metal meth-heads, throw all the bud on ground about 1 foot deep, turn up the volume on the fastest, hardest metal, give the maniacs a hit or two of their favorite chemical then hand out rakes, machetes and battery operated hedge trimmers. I grab the mic and scream out "Give haircuts to all the green mice on the floor" repeatedly until the buds are all expertly trimmed, it takes about 40 seconds per ten pounds and the results are way better than using those trim machines, I care about my end product and this is why I use humans, not machines.

Hello jpg. Just wanted to stop by and let you know my critical kush did not make it the whole 3.5 weeks in the freezer before I had to start dipping in to it lol. It made it about a week and a half and I can say I definitely see potential to this method. I have a liberty haze that has been flowering for 17 weeks now that I'm getting annoyed with, and when that gets the chop I will give this a proper go and report back.
