Economy seeds. the good, the bad and the ugly

Seems line when you go to one of the big seed banks all you see is auto this and auto that. I had to look for regular seeds.

They sound like fun but just have never tried them.

Maybe it's just like a lot of other retailing- they push the slow movers to the front. Dunno.

It's remarkable how some breeders are so proud of their stuff. Soma's amnesia haze is $20/seed. When Esko crosses it with Jalisco, my price is $2/seed. Go figure, huh?

Soma oh no here we go.

That guy kills me. Preaches, all the guru values then wants double price for everything. For him the only true sacred thing is the all mighty dollar.

Had a bad experience with some of his high dollar gear, sure wouldn't go down that rabbit hole again.

Id run Esko before I would consider Soma. What am I saying I wouldn't consider Soma just not down with hypocrites.

Can almost guarantee that the $2 bean would turn out as good as the $20 bean.

Sorry about the little rant no more bad Karma. OOOHHHHHMMMMMMM

Now that's better.

Hey Jamie.

These are the KC brains @ $16 a pack hard to beat. Nice return for such a small investment.

Good Morning all hope this find all well.

Definitely a steal and surprisingly good. I believe if the mango turn out as well, should clear up some of the negative vibe around KC.

Genghis Kush Welcome.

10 for 10 cant beat that. Hope you give us some feedback as they progress. Durbin has made a big comeback which is good to se. I'm sure your going to enjoy those. Keep us updated.

Well Im running down to the end of the KC33.

Breeder spec puts them at 6 to 9 weeks.
The candy phenotype has fallen right there and probably could be harvested as early as 8 weeks not to bad for a Sativa dominate strain.

The Thai Phenotype will be a little bit longer and could most likely go 10 weeks to see some amber. Harvesting at 63 days will still produce a substantial yield. Bud swell has pretty much finished the question will only be the state of ripeness.

Since I like a nice up high and the mango are knocking on the door both will be harvested at 63 days regardless.

The Mango is supposed to run 8 to 10 weeks from 12/12. That leaves me about 6 weeks before I have to drop. based on that I guess I'm going to have to make a decision and get my next economy strain on order within the next 2 weeks to ensure they are on hand for my next drop.

You all let me know if I should continue or if I'm just spinning my wheels.

I don't think you're spinning your wheels at all. Looks like you're on a journey of exploration much like my own.

I don't sell a bit of it, so I have nobody to please other than the wife & myself. She's not picky & now that I refreshed her supply of Rishi Kush she's entirely happy with it all. I've smoked stronger than what I've grown, but not by much & not often. The honors there go to the few growers I've come to know in person, people who've been kind to me. It's not like I want a breakfast toke that nails me to the chair for the rest of the morning, either.

It's just one of my hobbies, one that satisfies my techie side & my gardener side, not to mention my laid back retired guy side. I just want to do it well. I like to toke little bits throughout the day, maybe end up more like baked near bedtime. Mostly, I like something that just brightens my day.

I probably said so earlier, but Royal Flush from the Sativa Seedbank (Nirvana) is my fave so far. It's more than strong enough with a heady sociable high that can soar if you really start puffing it. Not bedtime weed. It's easy to grow, entirely manageable if maybe a bit sensitive to calcium def with good yield even though that grow had some problems. Properly cured, it has a soft, sweet, spicy & perfume-y aroma with sweet earthy taste, hint of pine on the exhale & smooth smoke. Old school tasty.

Yoss 33 is the only other member I know of who's grown it, and he liked it as much as I do.

The Bou might include it in the Nirvana 4 pack deal- they show both brands in the pic. I'd ask.

Jhhnn hey buddy hope this day finds you well.

It seems we share many of the same interest.

I also grow only for personal use and for friends and family gifting everything and selling nothing. As long as it makes me happy then its good enough.

I truly enjoy this hobby more than any other I have taken up since retirement. If it wasn't for growing I believe retirement would have already drove me insane. I went thru a long bout of depression after retirement. Just to much time on my hands I guess. The growing process alone has improved my life immensely not to mention the fruits of my labors. Sure beats the hell out of the pills the doctor prescribed and that I now refuse to take. I need to grow out a few heavy indica to help with my insomnia.

I can rarely get my wife to indulge. I cant seem to find anything she finds appealing. I can smell something and bask in the beautiful floral smells and the only thing she smells is weed Go figure. To her a skunk strain smells the same as the sweetest candy smell. I often tell her that her nose is kaput.

Glad to know that Im not spinning my wheels. These economy grows have been to give some karma back to breeders that forget the big $$$ and still produce a quality strains at a reasonable price for people in need.

I will see if I can find Nirvana's Royal flush for sure. I haven't had a good old school hashy pine taste since I grew out Mota's herijuana. Sounds tasty.

Take care Jhhnn

You might want to try Aurora Indica by Nirvana & Maple Leaf by Sensi. They were viewed very favorably by a long time & well respected member, Silverback, who unfortunately passed away before I came to icmag.

This is a fantastic thread, gonna follow along I'm interested in hearing more about the quality of today's economical strains vs the high end stuff. I recently put an order in for some hazemans madness (bubba x hp/g13) and it wasn't to bad, around $50 but also picked up a pack of sssdh that was NOT cheap.

I think I might place another order for some more economical stuff. Some of the peaks seeds northern, skunk, and bb stuff looks interesting

Good morning all. :tiphat:

Hope all is right in the world on this rather storm day here.

Jhhnn Good to see ya bro. Nirvana has so many strains I don't thing you can go wrong in any direction. Cost vs quality is great in most of there strains. I need to hit the Bo up and show them some support.

I've read many post by silverback may he RIP. As long as his memory is alive he lives on through us and the many people that helped. We should all be so lucky to remembered so fondly and be so well respected in the community.

OZZ_ Welcome.

Glad you had good results from the hazeman gear. Let us know how the SSSDH compares to the bubba xg13/hp.

peak seeds has some nice gear for sure. The BB looks like some of DJ's old gear pretty much unchanged. Even seems to carry the mutant genes and nute sensitivity. Those are pretty damn hard to find anymore as most commercial BB have been watered down. Many say the DP and others are just pail comparisons of the original.

I have also been eyeballing there gear but hoping that someone would clarify Peak seeds or Peak seeds BC. The funny thing is Peak seeds BC is a UK seed bank and the plain peak seeds is a Canadian seed bank. One of these is reputable and the other is questionable from my research. the problem is which is which. Ive heard it both ways and cant differentiate which is which. Maybe someone can clarify for us. Not looking to get burned by another unscrupulous seed bank.

Well spent the lights on time last night tying up the KC33s they have swollen to the point they cant sustain there on weight predominately on the Thai Phenotype. Many of the donkey dicks have swollen to size of a soft ball and the cola looks like a football. Yield should be substantial for a single plant.

Dropped the EC down to .3 EC to start the flush been working them down over the last week or so. Got to get these finished as the mango is starting to blow up fast.

Cuts from both are outside hardening off preparing to go in the ground. outside these should turn into monsters, I hope:biggrin:

I will post up some pics tonight after lights on.

I'd love to here some clarification on that as well, looking closely at their gear for sure but definitely am not gonna pull the trigger blindly.

I like the prices of KC brains stuff for sure. I have been thinking about getting one of the large yielding outdoor types. I have had good success with Highrise seeds as far as price and germ rate. Beanhorder has some real cheap seeds and i have read good things about them.

Hey IC.

seedstasteyum Welcome brother.

You can go with KC with no worries. I have not had any issues with germination, growth or hermis so far. They are definitely big beasty ladies well suited to outdoors. Just be advised that they will get HUGE so if stealth is an issue early training will be required. The KC33 has like a 10x stretch indoors. One piece of advice, sex before you go outdoors with them. Will save you some disappointment when that 10ft tall plant turns out male.

Hey Ozz

I'm not pulling the trigger either until someone chimes in with a solid answer. Anyone got a straight answer on Peak seeds or Peak seeds BC? I mean first hand ordering experience.

Here's a little photo dump.

The Thai Phenotype buds are a little Foxy perfect for hi humidity areas. I would imagine they are fairly mold resistant. Also the size of a softball if they were 18"long:biggrin:

The hybrid phenotype has a more compact bud roughly the size of a baseball. Better suited to the indoor grower. Buds may be fine outdoors but would most likely perform better indoors with lower humidity levels.

Smell is of sweet lemon. Not over bearing, good stealth.

Hope this helps.

Mango on the way.

These have a little more phenotype variety at least in Veg. Most come across as hybrids ranging from 60% Sativa to about 40% Sativa
One looks very indica at this point. The real story will come out when they go into flower.

'The funny thing is Peak seeds BC is a UK seed bank and the plain peak seeds is a Canadian seed bank'

No it is the other way around. peakseedsbc.com is the one in Canada. Look where you mail the order to and it says Canada. The other one says British Columbia on the homepage but that is bs. You look for contact info and it is in Amsterdam.

I just got my email that my seeds have been mailed today from the real peakseeds. 11 days since I mailed the money so this is going faster than the last order.

Thanks yesum for the clarification.

Its very possible I was having a medicated moment. I know one was in Canada and one in Europe somewhere. We want the one in Canada right???
