east coast growers thread

My only problems with GG4, was from using coco, which I hate, but still use for mother plants, and making seeds. Every grow turned out different, and the best grow I micro managed the feed PPM/PH and the runoff. Very important to not over feed it. Start at 300PPM and end at 600PPM, never over 650PPM in coco. Have not figured out if numbers should be different for hydro, where I am getting hollow stems, which never happened in coco.

Im at 1.4 EC with my GG4 that's my stopping point..... as far as pushing the nutrient profile....Im in coco and i know i have a couple of hollow stems ( I snapped a top during training and it was hollow as can be...) they look healthy....... just waiting on them to swell up a bit....

I never had the hollow stems in coco. Tonygreen suggested additional cal/mag, and someone else suggested silica. Concerned about adding them, since they can lockout macro nutrients.

I know my RDWC plants that are in flower must have hollow stems, from they way they felt during super cropping. I might also try cutting back a little on nitrogen.

i lost the exodus cut when i moved few years back unfortunately. the persons i passed it to couldnt bring it to its potential and slept on it, eventually letting it go. i was blessed with an exodus hybrid that i think will fill my cheese gap. i hope. i miss the cheese.

fwiw i obtained it from a guy on the east coast

As long as you let your pH swing.... Like mine was set to 5.6 pH yesterday and it should be around 5.9 when I get home today.... I'll let it go all the way to 6.2 ........ That should prevent any lock out of macro nutrients....... The plants take what's avalible at any given pH level..... Am I right in thinking like this?:)

I have heard that also, but very skeptical about things I hear. I hear so much conflicting info on these threads, it is hard to know what to believe.

Even these charts contradict

genetics.. I noticed.. also.. noticed it happens more with seed plants then clones.

I have heard that, about genetics. What gets me, is that GG4 in coco has always had solid stalks for me, it is hydro where the are like straws. Someone said in my hydro i have too much nitrogen in relation to cal/mag, which gives crazy fast growth, but does not have time to fill in.

I am going to try giving my current veg plants silica/cal/mag and see if it helps.

I'm interested in the halos for sure.... I have a smaller pump than u, but I love your attitude and helping w others that have questions.... a lot of people these days dnt give a fuck n would make a less seasoned grower figure shit out on their own.... I'm hoping my current grow does good like yours!!
Respect

I have a bunch of halos retired from service. Milage may vary, but for me they were a PITA. They got blocked up all the time and needed to be cleaned. Even after oversizing the holes somewhat I still had problems. The 1/2 barbs / hoses / valves were also way over kill. Major pain having to pull them off big plants because they were blocked again.

Next gen, I went to 1/4" push connects with Y connectors. Way better. Cheap and easy.

The halos were a big waste of money. Way too much hassle.

A roll of this, and some of these and you're way better off. For the plumbing, take a piece of 3/4" pvc pipe and drill some 3/8" holes and pop these in there. The 1/4" tube makes a water tight connection in the grommets. If necessary put dish soap on the tube to get it in the grommets without damage. I made separate manifolds for each tray. There are more pics in my album.

Don't forget these. 70 cents each won't break the bank, and you can hold them in place with these.

Halos suck. This is way cheaper and way better. All the quick connects can easily be undone and reused as much as you want. 45 seconds twice per day does the trick.

Clean layout. Nice! 4x6 tray?

Good advice using vinegar for cleaning.

I use Vera Zwave with appliance modules on the pumps and other stuff. Pump cycles are set to the second and can be monitored or controlled from anywhere. Works great.

Hey Copper
did you use a Y filter with a fine mesh? mine are still running strong, I haven't flushed or touched them..... but i'm running low ppm 700 .5 scale or 1.4 EC.. I have lost pressure on the Halos and i back flushed the y filter and the spray like crazy for 10 seconds every two hours.

Here's a better pic. Note the halos disconnected, but I couldn't remove them.

What Nutes you using? you can run something like drip clean, look at my thread about the set up... i haven't had any issues even most of the holes i didn't enlarge are still firing!!! I use a Y filter with a fine mesh screen, I have had to back flush that filter once... and i dont use anything to cut the build up.... It works for me maybe it will work for you.... Oh and get a badass pump.......
