Earth Juice Users

I have hard water that comes out of the tap at 7.8-8.2 pH. When I add earth juice nutes to it, the ph drops to 5.7-6. After a few hours it is already in the optimal ph range. Should I apply when the ph is perfect or let it brew longer to cultivate more microlife and adjust with ph down?

I would recommend that people avoid using any ph up / down products, (Grow & Bloom work well to drop PH) & there are many other options.

In your case what (I would try) is to try adding 1/2 of the intended grow / bloom at the start - bubble to get the herd built up then add the other 1/2 to drop the PH again when ready to use.

Are you using much Lime with that hard water ?

* Here is a new thread on organic PH: https://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=180698&page=9

I read the whole thing & things haven't changed at all.

If you dont know Tom Hill then look up his work - one of the masters IMO.

How Suitable is the Earth Juice line for hydroponics?

I started out with 2 seed plants in separate DWC buckets

1 had Fox Farms grow Big and the other Earth Juice Grow

The EJ Grow bucket got a bunch of root slime gunk. I flushed and rinsed with H202. The Roots were compromised and have since rejuvenated, now on FFGB.

Is it just the Grow that will do that? or does catalyst and bloom present such problems as well, even though its not nearly as thick?

To me it seems like organic hydroponic systems may be really tricky, and temperative.
Has any one had success using EJ grow in hydroculture? or in conjunction with other nutrient systems. How well does the Bloom work as the main nutrient component in a DWC system through Flowering; Can it be used as is by itself, or in supplement. and to what effecT?

The FF bucket would be traditional (chem) hydro - the EJ bucket would be organic hydro.

2 Totally different methods - Organic hydro is very tricky / temperative from my research.

The slime gunk would be unavoidable with EJ - my bubbled tea buckets & stones are covered in a thick (bio-film) after a few days but thats good showing me lots of (organic life) in there.

There is an organic hydro section here at ICMag but there are a relatively small group of guys using these methods.

The new EJ lines sound to made specifically for hydro though - the info on those are posted here on this thread.

tf- i would have done this earlier but wasnt 100% that its what you were looking for. im gonna throw in texture and color too just cause i wondered at first myself.

grow- awful. just plain rank. smells like essence of locker room, the football one at that, varsity. there is some underlying earth but its a distant second. ive been wondering if its bad or not since the day i opened it up. but it seems to work quite well and soaps up good at more than 5ml/gal. the color is a brackish looking dark, thick, boggy swamp juice look. brown green brown. quite thick, no chunks really but im pretty sure this is where the black sediment comes from in the bottom of my brewer, guano perhaps?
bloom - smells like molasses a little, sweet, with just a little little bit of a gross chaser. much thinner than the grow, its a light beige watery liquid. uniform in consistency without chunks of any sort.
catalyst - sweet sweet sugarish hardly anything at all in there not pleasing to the nose. does have kind of a zing to it. a watery looking clearish dark brown liquid. i like it. no chunks at all either.
microblast - smells like a not so upscale neighborhood right near the beach. an atlantic beach. very mild smell, like ocean sweat a little. neon green and mine developed some kind of thin solids floating around in it shortly after opening. i never let it bother me, dont think its detrimental to the tea at all.
meta k - i think all i smell is the plastic from the bottle. its fizzy though, when i shook mine before i opened for smell test, it was fizzing enough to get in my nose by the time it got down there. was gone right after tho. no big. good thing the grow didnt do me like that id yak. its clear, 100% with nothing floating or anything. looks like water.

hope this helps some people. others post so we can compare!

I had 3 people smell it including my brother and nobody could give any help..

Nice job posting the smells, Im cracking up with the way you described it

The meta K has no smell what so ever.

3) Nutrition:
*Note—Stage 1 = From transplant to the first fruit set
Stage 2 = From first fruit set to "topping" the plants—when they are about 6' tall
Stage 3 = From topping to the end of the crop

a) Fertigation using ½ gph emitters is ideal:
Stage 1: 6 minutes/cycle, 4 cycles/ day, to supply 0.89 liters/plant/day
Stage 2: 8 minutes/cycle, 4 cycles/ day, to supply 1.20 liters/plant/day
Stage 3: 13 minutes/cycle, 4 cycles/ day to supply 1.77 liters/plant/day

b) Commercial fertilizers should be formulated to provide the following N-P-K concentration

Stage 1 Stage 2 Stage 3
90 ppm N 125 ppm N 165 ppm N
45 ppm P 45 ppm P 45 ppm P
195 ppm K 195 ppm K 310 ppm K

i) Earth Juice™. In addition to products listed under the Organic Transplant Production section, they also have a product called:
"Microburst Three"—derived from sulfates of Magnesium, Cupric, Ferrous Manganese, Zinc, Borate, and Kelp to provide micronutrients. K2O is a 10% K source.

Recipe—Earth Juice™: Stage 1
To make 1 gal. of stock to be injected at a rate of 50:1

1 qt. Grow
1 qt. Catalyst
2 c. Bloom
1½ c. 10% K2O

Recipe—Earth Juice™: Stage 2
To make 1 gal. of stock to be injected at a rate of 50:1

1 qt. + 1¼ c. Grow
1 qt. + 1¼ c. Catalyst

Looks like there really loading up there tomato's on K - Earth Juice is all about the potash now it seems.

Thanks

TF, note that recipe isn't from Earth Juice the company, but from NCState researchers.

and If for example, you look at Dr. Howard Resh's hydroponics website and the hydro formulations he advises for tomatoes, peppers and lettuce are all "relatively" high in K, and are probably based on mid and end crop plant tissue analysis.

Yep - People want the potassium & EJ delivers, the new lines posted earlier are very K dominate which makes me wonder if i've been under doing potash (K) using the old grow / bloom items ?

I have just been using Molasses to supply that area - its kinda been my weak link area.

My grow shop just had a huge sale so I bought 1 Gal of each Grow Bloom Cat, after all that is used I wouldnt be opposed to trying out the new EJ line that was mentioned above, the mad scientist guy on the front has me sold..

On a side note I was able to find an old posting by jmansweed showing what he did at one point in time with his EJ.. Note that the Hi-Brix is EJs molasses

FWIW, I intend to do a side-by-side comparison grow of Earth Juice vs Peters hydro. Organic vs mineral salts.

Appendix two (above) is derived from this -

http://www.ces.ncsu.edu/depts/hort/greenhouse_veg/pdf/HortSciencePeetOrg.pdf

Janet F.M. Rippy, Mary M. Peet, Frank J. Louws, Paul V. Nelson, David B. Orr, and Kenneth A. Sorensen. 2004.

Plant Development and Harvest Yields of Greenhouse Tomatoes in Six Orgnaic Growing Systems

North Carolina State University, Raleigh, NC

In that study, they compared conventional (mineral salts) to Earth Juice and MagnaGro organic...

Good luck with your triple side by side test Carl.

Could we in any way talk you into doing a quad side by side test using the new EJ lines ?

Old vs. Elements vs. Sweet & Heavy vs. Sugar Peak :)

That would be really cool but a major pain in the ass...

Excellent thread fellows. A lot of knowledge packed in here.

I grow in coco and have had tremendous success with it, but I finally want to tap into growing organically in soil.

Recently I ran into a dude who uses FFOF and the full EJ line. He does a SOG, so I asked how he waters. Because I know the drippers would probably get clogged. He said he uses Drip Clean by H&G. Wait a minute, an organic gardner using EDTA and other chemical chelating agents. I always thoughts that these chemicals were the enemy to the micro life, but this grower claimed it didn't effect the micro life at all, and the drip clean really helps keep the DTW drip system clean.

It would be greatly appreciated to get some thoughts, and I am getting ready to do my first soil run, and am leaning towards EJ. I do want to admit that some posts in here a def discouraging, but that is true with any brand.

Wish I could be of service to you Buttercup :) but no experience in that department (im a big hose kinda guy) :)

If you would like some help with ANYTHING else - im here for you.

This being your first soil run I would suggest keeping it as simple as possible, to me organic soil methods & drippers sounds like the negatives could out weight the positives ?
