Hey RipVan-

Im thinking its the soil im using is why im getting some of these problems, its the first go with Just Right Xtra, it turns out to be very very rich/hot in everything.. Im going to water with some dechlorinated water for a few waterings and im feeling that should help, the new growth doesnt seem to be effected, so we shall see, all in do time.

Hey Loki and Rip... I'd buy a soil test kit for NPK and pH. I bet there's something off the charts.

Maybe think about simplifying the program? Both of you use an (IMO) overcomplicated feeding regimen.

Ive attracted some pictures from the last harvest, in the room at the time there was 11 plants and the list goes as follows.
-Acapulco Gold (3 different phenos)
-Super Lemon Haze
-BubbleGum

Ive been ultra busy with summer projects & im physically / mentally spent right now.

Sorry I missed your problems guys, like Dorje said things might be overloaded & or out of balance ?

Whats your EC & PH runoff with pure water ?

EC more than 2.0 on a larger plant really seems to slow things down IMO.

PH around 6.3 (generally) seems to be my sweet spot.

Might want to try letting the soil dry out more & wait an extra day before watering ?

Sometimes see dead spots when the soil is too wet.

I would drop the molasses for the time being loki.

Sup Rip - Ill get back to things here soon.

* Will try to check in tomorrow morning after a power nap to help better.

Can we do EC numbers here guys ? PPM has the 2 scales (x500 / x700) which is hard to work with.

Im a firm believer that meter testing is very important (if you want to maximize) nute uptake, etc.

Few organic growers here even look at PH (which blows my mind) but I would imagine even less look at EC (which also blows my mind).

In general pot farmers go to great levels growing super plants but have no interest in what the PH is or how insanely high the soils EC might be ?

Its not absolutely necessary I agree but for the small amount of time it takes to do it every week or so - those 2 numbers can tell me ALOT.

IMO getting the PH at the (sweet spot) is the first thing - around 6.3 generally works great, lower seems better than higher.

* My testing has shown that nute absorption slows greatly when PH is in the 7 zone.

Like you said it blows your mind that some of us never check PH, well I hate to say it I'm in that category for the most part, I do check PH every once and a great while and 99% of the time its 6.5-6.9 which is IMO perfect, not quite sure why I test, wouldn't know what to do if it was off :)

I do not own a EC meter as I see no need to test that in my soil, I do use a TDS meter and sometimes (about as often as I test PH) I test the TDS (Total Dissolved Solids) of my runoff water and its around 1500-2100 depending on the stage.
For the most part I go by what Jmans said about the heard will take care of the PH, and
I'm a firm believer in that.

I think that sometimes the PH needs to fluctuate a bit so the plant can get more of one element at that particular time then another, and the heard does that in accordance with the plant, so all is happy...

Can you effectively measure EC of organic nute solutions?

Isn't most of it insoluble and only made available to the plant through microbial breakdown?

Luna-

Thats a fantastic question, ill Let somebody more knowledgeable then me take that one... I would think you would be correct, with it not being accurate, but then again maybe because its run off water it is accurate.

Organics & EC readings - This is even more of a danger zone to talk about here than the great PH debate but you know me :)

Luna - The numbers are a (rough guide) to the nutrient potency but they are consistent within (your system).

Simply finding your general EC (sweet spot) number range will take some time & cycles but should eliminate the guessing game with how much & when to feed.

Here is a simple general example:

Got a plant in full flower with runoff telling me the soil is at EC 2.0 / PPM 1000 or 1400 (my max sweet spot for this stain) 3 days later I water & my runoff EC drops to 1.6 showing me I need to feed now about 0.4 or in 3 more days about 0.8.

So I just add a dash of this & that till the tea gets to that number (not following a general guessing schedule).

What has led me to this working is noticing that when I get lazy & fed the standard way (TBS per gal) is the soil gets up to numbers like (EC 3.2 / PPM 1600 - 2240 & growth / health slows & EC levels slowly drop.

BUT when I keep runoff on larger plants near (EC 2.0 / PPM 1000 - 1400) they gobble up the nutes (EC runoff levels drop much quicker) & the plants grow great.

This is hard for me to explain - hope you can make sense of it ?

I ask the skeptics to check your runoff & post your readings - I would be willing to bet your numbers are really high ?

* This is just something I have been tinkering with for fun & im extremely happy with the results. This is a brief intro on it (needs its own thread) but if there is much interest then I would be willing to share more (in a different thread) about my lone travels down the organic ec rabbit hole.

i would be quite interested in that thread tactical. so ill be looking out for it.

Nice legal disclaimer AOD & thanks for the positive vote. :tiphat:

May the force be with me as I can foresee the meter haters verbally gang raping me.

feelings will be hurt & the status quo will be crushed but for the greater good of marijuana plants everywhere, it must be done.

:ying:

Happy - your answer can be found in this thread but the consensus seems to be sometimes / never / all the time / mixes of all. lol

Just be advised it will be very acidic un-bubbled (lime type buffer needed).

Also - Bubbling massively increases beneficial organisms & speeds up the breaking down of nutes for quicker plant absorption.

Your not in my mind blowing category loki because you know what your PH is :)

TDS is the same as PPM correct ?

I think that sometimes the PH needs to fluctuate a bit so the plant can get more of one element at that particular time then another, and the heard does that in accordance with the plant, so all is happy...

Right on fluctuation is key

Did some digging in my files & found the (red pill) that sent me down this rabbit hole several years ago.

Metanaturals brand fertilizers data

Conductivity and Nutrient Strength

Organically derived elements conduct electricity less effectively than do non-organic elements. Metanaturals organic nutrient formulas mask readings from conductivity and TDS meters to a significant degree, making readings an unreliable indicator of actual nutrient strength. A meter will always show less nutrient material than actually is present.

However, a meter can be a valuable tool for indicating, on a day-to-day basis, the relative strength of the nutrient. Even though readings will be lower than those for a nonorganic nutrient, they will be consistent. Keeping a careful
record of daily EC/TDS readouts and plant performance, from the beginning, will indicate the rate at which nutrient is used. An EC reading will, characteristically, increase for
a short period, as the microbial population converts more of the nutrients into forms that the meter can read. After the maximum reading is registered, the reading will decrease, at
a rate that reflects the rate at which nutrient is used. Usage recommendations on Metanaturals labels are slightly more than the minimum for growing a healthy plant. The
experienced grower should consider them a starting point and feel free to experiment with stronger or lesser doses depending on the plant material and the stage of growth.
Calculating nutrient strength, on a parts per million basis, is a simple and effective method of determining nutrient dosage.

* Im in super farm mode aka: Anabolic Amishman

Going to be away for a few days - if I dont check back soon either im in jail or the bear got me :)

What are these meters you are all talking about?? PH?EC??TDS???

(sorry TF, you knew someone HAD to take a shot at SOME point)

Loki- Just my 2cents,, Oregonism is a good product. They source a custom blend from Mycorrhizal Applications, and I have used as well. Using that in a tea though is pretty much a waste of the product.

I would recommend putting into your soil mix before hand, or at any transplant directly on roots or in 'transplant hole'. If you felt you needed it after that, which you shouldn't, you could make holes in soil down to root zones and add that way.

I've heard a lot of bad and some good with the just right xtra, but the people who have said it's good either cut it with %30 perlite/%10 EWC, or mix it with other things like sunshine mix or peat, coco etc..

Where I live it's priced at the same level as FFOF ($21 1.5cf) and is considered a 'rip off'.

Zendo,

Im going to give the Just Right Xtra one more chance, as I think it was I who fucked it up in the first place, in regards to FFOF I used to use it and really liked it before they started to get weird and changed their formula. If I dont like the Just Right after this run, im going to try some Roots Organics soil not the 707 but the regular one, ive heard good things about that one.

For the Oregonism I dont always put it in a tea and I still apply it to the soil during the transplant, sometimes I just feel that adding a bit for a boost couldnt hurt :)

What do you use for soil and would you like to share your nute mix with us? I dont think Ive seen you post on this thread before...

My buddy actually just switched from the xtra to the Roots organic, and he's happy. The main beef is that the xtra is too 'hot' and very dense.

I use:

60% Sun Gro "Sunshine Growers Natural and Organic"
20% Wiggle worm earth worm castings
20% perlite

1Tbs/gallon Greensand
1Tbs/gallon Pulverized Dolomite lime
1Tsp Mycorrhizal Fungi
2cups CC's Mineral Mix (2 cups per 5 gallons of soil mix)

I mix equal parts
Azomite
Soft Rock Phosphate
Glacial Rock Dust

soil 'works' for 2 weeks before planting, I keep moist with kelp tea.

I either add 1.5 cups per 5 gallons of a seed meal mix with the following:

Alfalfa meal
Cottonseed meal
Linseed meal
Canola meal
Soybean meal

or I leave those out and feed with general organics foods.

Zendo,

Thats the problem I had with Just Right, it was SUPER HOT, as for dense, I dont know about that seems to drain fine, but super super hot.. Almost killed some of my plants.

Which Roots Organic Soil is he using? I know they have a few different kinds...

I have 4 bags of Just Right left, I think im going to get a huge rubbermaid 50 GAL or something and mix the Just right and some Earth Juice Amazon Bloom and some Roots Organic Soil together to get well rounded soil, and from then on use roots organic
