Thanks for the good words y'all! The plants were hardy, easy growing specimens that I put through all kinds of abuse so they can take it. High/low fluctuating heat, root issues, inconsistant feed/watering intervals, they took it all and produced some great looking stuff despite the troubles.
The other shorty C99 came down on day 59 a few days ago.
Lower nug way under the lights and shaded, still managed to trich up at a good clip.
Top nug. This plant was definitely the frostier of the two little ones.
A dome pheno C99 going now.
Whole tent as of today. Will finish flowering out these reject moms and then set up again around october.
Those plants look tastey Have any plans on building yield somehow? possible scrog? No offense but it does look a little empty in there. Good job and good luck.
Hey mr. gt thanks for stopping on by. No offense taken, yea its pretty empty in there for sure! These are just the plants that didnt make the cut on my mother search so I am just flowering them out (and moving again in a couple of months). For maxing yields and scrog check out the beginning of this thread - I ran hempys with scrog nets on 4 plants and filled most of the available horizontal space.
As stated when I rebooted the tent, this run was all about finding mothers for future runs, testing out bottom feeding as well as trying coco for the first time. I think I am getting the hang of it now - the final plan is to run 4 plants at a time every two weeks for a perpetual SOG. Scrog was fun and the return was pretty good but the ease at which this particular system runs plus the turnaround time is worth the loss of any potential yield. Once I have 16 pots going again in there of all keeper female clones I think it will look plenty full .
Thanks for the kind words NKOTS! I have been admiring your super clean grow as well. As for the volume, they were 3 gallon buckets from Home DePot with 100% perlite. I am curious to see how coco hempies would perform now.
exactly, i am wondering the same
and in fact the hempy buckets may be my next medium of choice. just figuring out the feeding schedule as i wouldn't be able to keep a regular watering regime. i am researching automatic feeding with a pump that would allow for adequate nute dosage (thinking of system similar to greenmatter's in the yogi cup thread - you must have seen it?).
what impresses me in your grows is the constant lookout for new methods. i must admit you tried most of the techniques i would like to put into play in my cabs: PLLs, LEDs, hempies.
another option is vert. so as you see i have enough ideas for next couple of grows and threads like yours are a true inspiration
I'm glad to hear that the things I am doing have been of some use to you, as I have learned much here. Looking forward to whatever your next project may be! I have those tomatoes I started in the tent in coco hempies outside now and they have really taken off. (Yea I have been following the yogi thread, fun stuff!)
I was away for over a week on vacation and left the tent in the hands of another. He did fairly well but I fear I may lose my SDG mother. The c99s also did not get as flushed as I would have liked but they will be fine nonetheless with some extra cure time.
At this stage (day 54) I am noticing that the longer-flowering plants are a good deal bigger and healthier than they were last time. The Diesel Fire should already be surpassing the yield of the previous plant with the problems as might the SDG. The C99s proved to enjoy the topping and simple LST and responded by prolifically producing what seems to be over double the flower of the single-cola tester plants.
Pre-chop blockhead reject:
Perhaps due to the mishaps of the previous run, this plant did not really exhibit the "blockhead" shape on the seed run, only showing it on this cloned second run.
Nug closeup:
A more "spear" pheno. This plant smells ridiculously sweet!
I did spend the week smoking the C99 while fishing and relaxing. It is definitely an up, buzzy high. There is a bit of fuzz and the comedown isn't as smooth/clear as some other sativas but it is nonetheless very nice. A heavy session really got the buzz going and will need more testing in this regard . Really tasty, smells great, and a true 50s finisher. Next couple of runs I will take them at the recommended day 52 and perhaps even a tad earlier to see if this makes a difference in the final effects. I will post up some dried bud shots once I have recovered from the trip.
Hey babel. To my ears, if it is behind a closet door as it was in my last place it was barely to not noticeable in the same room. Now I have it just sitting in the corner of a room unobscured and you can definitely hear it but it isn't that loud. It is a lower-pitched wooshing compared to some other fans one could use. Definitely one of the quieter inline fans - I can take an in-room DB reading if you'd like at a later time with an analog radioshack meter but I would need to get a 9v battery replacement for it first.
The fan has two speed modes you can run it at and I have it running high. Never heard how much quieter it gets running on low. They also have a newer "silent" series which should be quieter and I may give it a try at some point in the future.
Thanks Chloe! I think I will be sticking with this light mix for a good while yet.
Been away for a bit, going on trips and enjoying the summer. The last three plants are still finishing up, and they will get the chop this Thursday before I leave for yet another adventure.
Once my sweet deep grapefruit mom really bit the dust I decided I didn't feel like the upkeep on the rest of the mothers so they will get tossed as well. Shame as the SDG really puts out the weight and I love the smell/taste and foxtailing structure. The C99s I have made a decent amount of F2 seeds as well as crosses through all the DF/SDG so they will come back in the future at some point, but there are a lot of interesting sativa/cross beans that I am looking forward to popping next run (namely Angolese X Purple Paki and Panama DC).
Promise to update the weights and some new pics next week!
Shouldn't make promises one can't keep, been crazy busy.
Anyway, took the second harvest out of the freezer cure and trimmed up tight today for a weigh. They were sitting at about 64% so while they could be drier they are within the sealing and long-term storage range. I wasn't able to get figures on the very first run since I have processed some into oil and have been enjoying from that pile all the while.
For this run, the lone Diesel Fire 2, Sweet Deep Grapefruit, and 2x C99 (spear + blockhead):
SDG: 36.3g
DF2: 46.0g
C99: 50.6g total (~25.3 each)
132.9/28.35 = 4.68oz
Definitely felt the improvement in yield with a little room to breath and dialing in the nute/feeding a little closer. They could have had some extra time but it shouldn't have made too significant a difference.
DF2 chop. Significant improvements this time around vs the first run. Much more weight.
DF2 nug

updated smoke report 2/11/14:
SDG is very tasty. Still very astringent, sharp citrus but sweet. It really is pretty much like the name although not exactly grapefruit but a very interesting citric effect. The high is floaty, dreamy. The vision softens up and you can relax your body. Slows things down nicely without getting you too stuck or sleepy, unless you indulge heavily then you get cross eyed and put to sleep.
Diesel Fire #2 is more up in effect than previous thought. I was able to vape this one all day without fading as long as I didn't get into it too hard. At the end of the day I was able to hit is heavily and this eventually took me to a more sedative state. The smell is very strong - fuel and sour background. Some smoky gunpowdery scent in there as well. Still the strongest of the bunch.
Diesel Fire #1 is the more sedative pheno. The taste is musky, meaty, fuely with a hint of dark fruitiness. Both DF are very mentally interesting and has a strong effect on your mindstate. DF2 though is much more your indica effect with the body and stone. Still haven't smoked this one as much due to this so my experience with it is low compared to the others.
C99 I mixed up all the phenos so its a little different every time but definitely the similar C99 up buzz in them all.

The SDG has a pretty good balanced effect. Sharp, sweet citrus/grapefruit smell that translates well into the taste. A nose scrunching but pleasing astringency. Long fat calyx strings on foxtailed dreads shooting out in all directions. Seemed like it could purple up a bit on the first run if let go long/cold enough. The first couple of puffs are especially tasty. Has a good appetite stimulating effect and body/mind relaxation. The buzz is nothing exceptional but it is good all around effect - the taste and smell is the real winner with this one. Have not tried any in oil yet.
DF1 is more ECSD leaning. Sharp fuely scent that is very powerful but has mellowed out to an interesting chemical/detergent smell with a semi-fruity/fuel backround of sorts. Hard to describe and strangely pleasant. Buds are thick and dense nuggets. Stimulating mind effect with the body stone to follow.
DF2 while still having some fuel undertones has a more fruity/musty OG flavor to it. It is also extremely powerful in the smell department. Also dense/thick buds but more spear colas while DF1 was more egg shaped nuggets. As it cured it lost the strong lemon profile it had growing but the character of that lemon cream remains. The gunpowder scent that loudog described in the CV forum in his grow is becoming more apparent as it matures. Good head effects as well, nice relaxing dreamy feel that will eventually lull you to sleep. Some that has hit it described it as a bit racy in the beginning but I did not feel this although I am a fan of the racy sativa ride. Both are pretty strong in the potency department!
Made some QWET with the C99, great stuff. Heady rushing/rollercoaster like feeling initally that smooths out into a good 70/30 feeling sativa head high. Lets you down fairly smooth but not baseline clear like a lot of purer sats. Tastes and smells great, the fruitiness really came through by using some fresh frozen bud material that was caked in trichomes (The smaller plants that started 12/12 under the LED run was in this batch). This stuff kills when playing music!
Also gotta say this batch of C99 flowers is a real crowd pleaser with the sativa high but the real remarks come about the sweet tropical smell and taste of the buds. The spear pheno kept its sweetness and is especially delicious in a vaporizer.
Looking forward to starting again in a bit, until then I will be watching your grows with envy.
NKOTS, I use Graywolf's qwet technique in the concentrates forum for the most part. Only real differences being that I wash for 1~2 minutes instead of 3min per run, and evaporate with no heat until the very end to preserve the taste and smell for dabbing. I would blast some butane but bho is so readily available in my area that something like qwet is a little more interesting in profile to make on my own imo.
