Autopot cabinet for clones & mothers

Autopot cabinet for clones & mothers

Hi guys what i have planed is to make a cabinet designed for the autopot would like to hear any suggestions u may have.

The cabinet i have is massive LXWXH 3ftx2ftx8ft hope to have it tomorrow. i will be cutting it down to 6ft i will need to place the rez's at the top sounds dangerous so i will be using them 20L/5gal water storage container with lid so there will be no chance of a spill touch wood.

I should be-able to fit 3 20L rez's at the top. they will need 1ft of space, clones about 1 1/2 ft leaving 3.5 ft for mothers what do u guys think?

Hey Craven_au
i have a similar setup and was nervous about putting the rez on top of the cab although i only have one rez not three! it's a little hard for me to get in to take a picture of the whole thing, so i smoked a bowl and tried to draw it for you.

i think instead of going on top of each other in the cab maybe consider using the cab you're getting tomorrow as the mother room. then in my drawing on the left there are two additional cabs. the one on the top would give you enough room for the clones and the one on the bottom is where the rez goes and your supplies can go. i have a pic from the mother room included too. you can see where the bulkhead for the water comes through the wall. you can also see below that are the vents, those are actually routed through the bottom of the rez cab to pull fresh air in. in some of my smart-valve pics there are some pvc pipes, those are routed through the rez cab and down under the rez to pull in cool air when the exhaust fan comes on. i guess you'll have to use your imagination a little. while i'm keeping my clones elsewhere right now, i am trying to see what i can do with some fluorescent lights. since i'm only trying to grow one strain at a time. the sativas are in the mother room as you can see below. check out my albums and you can see some LST training that i'm playing around with if you're interested.

i'm not sure if this really helps you, 'cause it may be more than you'd want, but this is what works for me and i don't have to worry about the rez on top of the cab dripping water. either way it'll be cool to see what you come up with.

I am designing mine too but it is 2x3x8, about half as deep as yours. I was going to use a black storage bin about 15gal to feed 2 autopots. I was thinking to keep the rez outside of the cabinet for easy access, saving room in cabinet and to keep rez temps down. Put the rez on a short bookcase, table whatever right beside your cabinet with the feed line going in through the cabinet wall (hidden if rez pushed flush with cabinet side). I was thinking to put the rez on top as you are thinking about, but those 5 gallon buckets get pretty heavy to lift 6+ feet in the air.

Ah- good point DeepFried, i think i recall reading that 1 gallon of water weighs about 8 pounds. So Craven_au, if you're thinking of using 3-5 Gallon containers that's going to be a lot of weight about 120 pounds. yeah man, hopefully the cabinet you're getting is pretty solid or maybe you're already thinking to reinforce it. either way be safe lugging water up a ladder can also throw off your balance. unless you're thinking of using an air lift pump or water pump with a check-valve in it... that may work better.

peace,

I'm not to bad at carpentry so yes it will be reinforced i was thinking of just filling the containers with a hose no lifting at all but on 2nd thoughts i do like the save room idea from Deepfried.

Craven what about the auto feeder it will eliminate the need for water res in the cab (i know this will not allow for different nutes but makes things easy) once you find the combo you like maybe get one of those then only need to top up the food once every 1-2 mths depending how many plants you have.

Thanks 4 the advice guys got the cab this morning not as big as i thought more like 3x2x8 still big tho i decided not to cut it down to 6ft
ended up pulling the hole thing apart to get it in the room took dodo5678 advice and reinforce it with 2inch self tapper screws and added a center brace for the top self. All that needs doing is to adding some shelves lighting and the ventilation and putting hinges on the doors.

Up date.

Done some more work today as u can see

Adjustable shelves,Adjustable lighting and added hinges on the doors a lot better. just need to do the fans and some more lighting

Wow, under 3 hours from opening box to plants already veggin!, looks good. Lots of headroom due to low height of autopot bases.

Ok so here is the cab with the LED and Floros i had to put a small fan in too now i have to go to JB hi fi and get a speaker port for air in so i can stretch a stocking over it for an air filter to stop any bugs getting in.

looking good in quick time Craven! If stealth isn't an issue I'd definitely put the res. outside the cabinet. It can get warmed up by the light right under it's shelf among other things. Mine does, but it's workable with only cfl's below & some tweeking. Most importantly You won't have all that water sitting above a bunch of elecrtical stuff like i do. That's my one peeve about my set up. I have been extra thorough in making the cabinet safe and reliable regarding that situation though. I'm sure there's a bunch of decisions I made in design that had to do with the autopots, but it's too smokey in the room for me to think of what those might have been. I really intended to (and may still) put more in my grow thread about designing the cabinet & how it works (that was super fun!), but I guess I lost interest without much other interest in the thread apparently. I'm not fishing for attention or anything but you might check it out since it's another cabinet with (well, the copies at least) autopots.

I like everything about the autopots in my cabinet. silent, reliable, 0 watts, no wasted water or ferts... Also I've been out of town for 4-6 days at a time 3 times now. I'm limited in time away by res. size (well, and general anxiety about being away from the grow) but outside the cab you could go as big as you want.
