Do (some, many) Icmag Members Have A Science Problem?

(or can you tell me the exact number of planets in existence right now???)

blessss

If he tells you any number can you verify if he's right or wrong? Or would you just automatically say he's wrong under the assumption he couldn't possibly know the answer? I mean I just ask because it seems silly to ask a question that if answered you couldn't possibly confirm or refute the answer.

@hempkat: that's the point, certain knowledge is beyond the grasp of our minds at least now, since as you say, even if he told me the #, i would have no means to verify the data, hence for us humans absolute info would be hard to handle if at all ...

@komdod: k+, good stuff :)

Are we just Gods experiment? Isn't god a perfect being, therefor he does not experiment, implying an unknown outcome, impossible in omnipotent perfection.

In the eyes of the atheist with a scientific mind are we an experiment with various outcomes? Does our free will imply an infinite number of future possibilities and a single determined past?

i don't know about god (of course), or whether there really is truth, but i do know that wisdom exists (to be discovered) ... which kind of makes god and truth moot imho.

just finished Proof of Heaven by Eben Alexander, a neurosurgeon who had a remarkable near death experience (NDE); should be required reading.

Would it? Is info unknown to you automatically hard to handle? There are people who claim to have been in or are actively in contact with alien beings for lack of a more accurate term. Suppose one of them had the knowledge due to advance technology that allows intergalactic travel and mapping? Would the humans they contact suddenly flip out if they told them?

Judging by how many have responded to this poll they're willing to accept there is life out there in the Universe besides ours based simply on the odds favor it. So I think a lot of people could handle the info better then you think. The only ones who would likely have a problem are those who hold onto their concept of the universe with a rigid unwillingness to consider other possibilities.

Personally I hate that argument about how some things need to be kept hidden because if the truth was revealed everyone would freak out. It always seems to get used conveniently for there being no hard evidence of certain things. Like Aliens for example, I have a friend who is into the whole "Billy Meier" version of aliens and when he tells things he talks about how these aliens don't just reveal themselves more openly and directly because they believe the world would panic. Seems rather convenient if you ask me. Sure people panicked when Orson Wells did his infamous broadcast but that was different. In that case not only was one of the most widespread mediums (radio) being used to tell a story of aliens existing but that they were attacking and our defenses were useless, that the aliens were virtually unstoppable. If the world would panic at such a revelation as the existence of an alien race it would be because of fears like "war of the worlds" having been previously planted in our minds.

well I don't believe in god. and statistically there is as much chance that god exists as that he doesn't exist there really isn't any proof eitherway. there is a lot of evidence that plenty of religions were born out of certain situations rather than any kind of proof of a higher being.

I watched ''the hunt for bigfoot'' on discovery channel today. it kinda surprises me how adamant some folk are that they have seen a bigfoot. the pictures people have taken are always blurry. you would think at least one witness would have had a 3 or more megapixel phone camera at least. but its the same thing people will follow things when have not been proven yet, sometimes for hundreds of years.

I think there's been too many public mass sightings to deny that there isn't something unknown in our skies. I don't think mass hysteria would take over I agree. I think many people have come to except in this world that anything is possible. I just wish whatever is known would be made public.

Interesting you say this...just last night I was listening to late night radio show Coast To Coast and the host had a guest on for a couple of hours who is trying to make this happen. This is the show that formerly was hosted by Art Bell, but he left the show years ago....very unfortunately. He got replaced by a complete idiot named George Noory, and the show's quality had diminished considerably. Luckily, George Noory was off last night and the host was George Knapp, who is very good...a real honest to goodness journalist. It was a pretty interesting interview, and speaks exactly to your wish of "letting the cat out of the bag."

Here is a link to last nights page. You can listen to a recording of the show on a link on this page. There are also a few more links to websites that the guest is involved with.

It's definitely worth a listen.

Live long and prosper. :)

i don't have to many problems as long as i can grow/smoke enough to keep an open mind

probed? don't knock it till you tried it!

the abductee stories are funny too. most of them have been sexually abused by the aliens who abducted them. bizarre. they obviously came a lot way just to get their leg over lol.

You know, this is completely off topic but it does relate to the sub topic of aliens that crept into the discussion. Anyway just an observation but doesn't it seem strange to anyone that so many of these supposed alien visitors have to resort to anal probes? I mean they've conquered the problem of intergalactic space flight and the energy needed to make it possible but they still have to physically stick things in someone's butt to learn about them? Even our medical technology is better then that and yet these beings that are supposed to be so more advanced they can traverse galaxies are still having to physically stick things in the body of what they're studying? Something doesn't smell right about that and it's not just the anal probe.

@hempkat: seems like the aliens are just a bunch of intergalactic rapist/sex tourist, else i can't explain the anal probe thing...

@weird: sure would be fun to have one!
