DIY LED PORN

try adding bit of calmag. always worked for me.

Been reading alot about adding CaMg, but im on organic hydro in coco and still trying to dial in the nutes, Can fix the issue with Earth juice catlyst (but they dont make it anymore), sure it has something to do with the nute regime, Might add abit of CaMg when i've depleted all the Earth juice.

Thanks for the advice, and nice setup on your end. COB's for life :)

they were good for about 20w of heat i think

everyone is now getting into these pin heat sinks and then hanging them horizontally, they still work but you can get the same amount of cooling from less weight using smth like these

8 USD each and good for around 25w of heat also, possibly could run a cob at 50w

this one no problem

having said that the pin style has massive surface area and they work great for that reason

Just saw this post - thanks D.

These would probably be just the ticket for a vert 8 cob remote driver light. Maybe with 1 fan for active mounted inside the rig.

Who is going to build it? :D

Nice lights denjo, CannaBuilding and toretto.
Toretto that's a very efficient and lightweight design. :good:

Denjo, Im not sure of the weight. Im guessing 35-40 lbs. You can come in at about the same or less if you use 1/8" thick 1/2" angle and skip the square stock altogether. Combine that with the sinks that Dion linked to above and you should be golden.

when the people first used leds, they had issues of calcium. As soon as you add it, it should be fixed in 3-5 days.

thanks dude! cant wait to get a new panel.

True that, added some to 1 plant and i noticed a difference in the yellowing of the leaves instantly (the next day green colour came back to almost yellowing leaves on a drip fed system) amazing.

CalMag does make a difference, never added it earlier in flower, Used to add it at week 4-6 (week 8 - 9 strain) using catlyst earth juice (which delivers alot of CalMag in form of organics chemicals), but now adding it in week 2 - 4 (strain dependant) and i've noticed a big difference in bud formation and Growth vigor, COB leds do really bring out the most of a strain I've noticed (hopefully someone can confirm this), Been growing the same strain for about 5 years and it performs extremely savagely under High Quality COB LED setup compared to a HPS setup with the same wattage, Almost double the yield with the same quality smoke (when grown right with the right canopy/tent temps and humidity)

Im going to build it most likely, thinking of using the citizen 1212 cobs for that build each run at 25w OR ill go with the gen7 vero each at 110w....mmmmm

I used to grow with 2 x 600W HPS and a 600W MH, but swapped over to LED when my grow room shrank to a grow cab.

8 x CXB3590 3500K CD-bin , 2 x Meanwell HLG 185h C1400a drivers and 8 x Arctic Cooling Alpine 11 pro CPU coolers.

Total lumens: 71373
Total PAR watts assuming 10% loss: 198
PPFD based on canopy area: 1841.4
PAR watts per sq.m.: 396.0
Power watts per sq.m.: 782.0
Lumens per watt: 182.54

I've recently mounted the 4 free hanging cobs in a frame similar to the one on the left. It's much cleaner now, I'll try to grab a pic soon :)

I'm really satisfied with the results so far. The plants I've been flowering has been small due to short veg periods and crappy veg lighting, but I'm still pretty impressed. :)

That's very high light levels for such a room, the plants would definitely benefit with added CO2 but not having a sealed room it's not an option.
Do you keep the lights dimmed or run at 100%?

I know it's a bit much, I got a bit carried away when I planned my build. I figured I could always turn them down if problems occurred.

I've been experimenting with both dimming levels and height over canopy, and run them at roughly 300W at the moment.

I've been running them at full power with a distance of around 18" - 20". Any lower and the tallest buds in the canopy would start heating up way beyond the air temp. I've had surface temps reaching over 40 degrees Celsius, while the air temp in the cab was a bit under 30 Celsius.

I use a IR thermometer to check the temps on the canopy every time I raise/lower the lamps or adjust the dimmer, trying to keep the temperature of the tallest buds under 30 C :)

Here's the whole cab including the veg department, which uses epileds/epistar cobs. I'm waiting for upgrades as we speak:

Very neat, clean setup sixixix, is it passively cooled or is there an A/C hookup that I'm not seeing?

Thanks dude :) It's passively cooled. There's normally no need for AC in my climate, but I do have a problem with heat accumulating in the room where the cab is located, especially if I run the lights at max and the door is closed (the room is located in my unheated garage).

The room itself is insulated and has a heated floor, with a small bathroom style fan and a passive intake for exchanging the air. I will upgrade this fan sometime before next summer, in the meantime I'll keep the door to the room open when I need to keep the temps down.

sixixix: What a setup man, what a setup, If you'd see my grow room, i think most people would have a heart attack lol.

The cleanliness is amazing and how neat it is, my hats off to you sir.

I hate it when fuckers say stoners are not productive, Look at this dudes setup!!! Goes against everything all these government anti weed nubs have said.

Very nice, and the lights in that area is a overkill, Way to much.

I run 300watts (8x vero29's) in a 1m x 1m space and i still get bleaching.

peace.

Quick update,

Since adding 90degree lenses on all my COBS (vero 29's) Trich production has increased compared to previous grows with the same strain, only difference the first pic is the original Seed and the second pic is a clone from the original seed. Pics of these nugz are from top cola buds closest to lights.

here are some pics to compare.
Grown under the same amount of COBS and wattage, environment kept the same (within 1 - 4f night and day temps), only difference no lenses are installed and the lights had to be closer to the canopy
picture.php

Same as the above, only difference 90degree lenses and Lights were 4 - 5 inches higher to the canopy, BUT it looks like the trich production is much dense.
picture.php

Both plants had their lower buds seeded (love this strain want to explore every pheno), It might be the case of i had to get used to the strain (it did react different to other strains when feeding, heavy feeder) and just got better at growing it, but having the lights higher did keep the canopy temps lower and seemed to produce more bud/resin.

If anyone has any comparison pics or info please correct me or post up, how else are going to evolve the way we grow with out sharing.

Peace, happy growing :)

Great info and nice to see those type of improvements. Been thinking of getting lenses for my Vero29's just to help protect the COB surface, but this improvement is a plus!

Did you notice any change in light penetration down into the canopy?

Thanks for sharing
